Liontamer
For any musicians at MAGFest who want to use an afternoon to create a VG soundtrack or SFX, Global Game Jam's gonna be holding an event during the festival. Check it out: Going to MAGFest? Want your music to be in a video game? If so then the Global Game Jam needs your help! The Global Game Jam at MAGFest will have dozens of inspiring jammers making a game in 48 hours. If you have music that you want to donate to their library, you can do so by emailing your song to GGjmagfest@gmail.com. If you would like to join in with the experience in the limited capacity of your audio and musical talents, then please stop on by the GGJ area at MAGFest on Saturday, January 24th from 11am to 3pm to participate.(Disclaimer note: Any music that makes it into a game becomes the property of the game. There is no money being made so there will also be no royalties.)
zircon
(Disclaimer note: Any music that makes it into a game becomes the property of the game. There is no money being made so there will also be no royalties Whoa, dafuq? Giant red flag. They gotta change the policy here. If you're making music for a game jam for free - no problem with that - there's 0 reason why you should be giving your rights away. In fact, that's not even legally possible. You can't sign your intellectual property rights to someone else with no compensation or consideration.
Nick The Newbie
Not 100% sure how it works, music licensing is a giant quagmire wherever you go, but the Global Game Jam is supposed to be just a fun side project. I'd e-mail that address to ask for clarifications exactly on what that entails.
zircon
Who's the contact person on that? I'm 100% sure there's no malice intended btw. Most likely what they meant was that music made for game jam games has a limited license to be used in said games, not that the developers own the music permanently (i.e. musician can no longer use that music for anything else, sell it, put it on an album)
A-RoN
You can't sign your intellectual property rights to someone else with no compensation or consideration. This. An original owner of any piece of artwork whether music or graphic should at least have a personal right to use it as a portfolio piece on their own personal website or as a submission to a client or company if said owner feels it's worthy of demonstration purposes. Copyright cannot be given up freely be it a live performance or written guitar or sheet music.

Sorry for the confusion about this.

DrumUltimA
Hmm, I guess I should go to this, given I will be wheeling a vibraphone around anyway!
