S0LV0
Hey there! Thought this was as good a place to start as any now that I'm wanting to get active on the board. This is a remix I did around a week ago of a track I really enjoy from Sonic Heroes, the Emerald Challenge theme. It's mostly electronic and house influenced, and while I didn't intend it to completely branch out arrangement-wise, I think I got a few nice ideas in there. I considered throwing some guitar and bass work in there too, but alas, it didn't work out. Here's my mix. Gonna mark this as Finished since it was indeed finished by the time I posted it here, but I'm open to making improvements.
Nostalvania
Hi, I like the upbeat and driving character of your version. The arrangement is relatively conservative, but like you said, there are some nice original ideas, like that rhytmic stuff at 1:34, that was pretty cool. IMO, the mixing could use some work though, everything sounds pretty muffled. Maybe too much low frequencies? Sorry, i'm not a mixing expert, so i can't really give more precise feedback. Otherwise, neat work.
S0LV0
Thank you for the feedback! I can see what you mean about the mixing, comparing it to similar works over the last few days I noticed it's indeed kinda muffled. I'm gonna open it back up soon and see if I can un-muddle the frequencies a bit.
S0LV0
Sorry for the late update, but is this an improvement? I've been busy with other things, but I found the time to look over it and realized I was squashing the higher frequencies on a number of instruments. Hopefully this is cleaner. Nostalvania
Sorry for the late response. Hm, i dunno if it's my ears fault, but i compared the two versions (i suppose the one in the first post is still the old one) and i didn't really hear a difference tbh Maybe someone else can hear one? Garpocalypse
Yea, this is confusing. They both have the same file name but one is a .wav and the other is the .mp3. the .mp3 is noticeably louder but both versions have the same issue that was already pointed out. I'm no EDM specialist but that kick doesn't sound right to me. It's strangely heavy in the lower mids which I think is the problem you are having when those frequencies stack up with everything else you have. Try doing some gentle EQ or a use different kick all together.
S0LV0
Err, sorry about that. I think I updated the mp3 file at some point too, so they can't really be directly compared anymore, that's my bad. Either way, I'll take a look at the kick, and thank you for the feedback. S0LV0
Alright, I had the sense this time to make the new version a separate upload for comparison's sake. I'm not a wizard of EQing yet, so hopefully this is some kind of improvement.
k-wix
I'd be happy to post some thoughts for you! - So, the general vibe is awesome, its got a nice groove going, super upbeat, and definitely has some charm to it. Might not be the highest quality/sexiest synths... but it's straight infectious and it's really, really hard to avoid boppin' your head and getting into it, props on that. - Instruments and blending is pretty good. In general, highs and mids and lows sound great. Overall, It's a fun rockin' listen. The lead just rocks. - The mix feels very repetitive - the lead is always repeating the same few notes, the drums and sfx you layer in help this a bit, but its not enough. Try playing with the melodies more. Think of it in terms of beginning -> buildup -> climax -> cooloff -> end. your structure is just too similar throughout. It leads to me getting boards towards the end! Overall? it's a fun track that showcases some great fundamentals! I think the structure could use some help - it feels to similar. Hope it helps -Dusty
Smooth4lyfe1987
This definitely could be mixed better The kick is lost in all the sounds, but the uptempo beat is awesome! Love the effects you have on the synths The only thing that needs to be fixed is the mixing..the kick needs PUNCH!
~Faseeh~
Hey, you've got something nice here. Would've liked more original content but it's alright. I'd suggest lowering the 4.5khz range, it sounds too piercy. Oh, and you could tone down the sidechain on the lead.
S0LV0
Like I said in the OP, I'm aware the arrangement's pretty close. I made it on my off time during artist's block and didn't really intend to submit it to OCReMix. I still probably won't submit it further, but I was curious about getting feedback. Also, the sidechaining on the lead is intentional and I'm happy with it as it is. Thanks for the feedback, though! ~Faseeh~
