  1. Two Ideas: "Red Alert 2 War Machine" and "Red Alert 2 At All Costs" or perhaps some variation of that like "Red Alert 2 Whatever the Cost" That's all I got.
  2. Drum samples could be a lot better. They sound really fake. Also get's really repetitive. This is a start, but you need more ideas for this before you can make it a 3 minute mix. As is this get's pretty old after the first 30 seconds.
  3. Interesting. I'm not familiar with the original soundtrack for Red Alert 2. I do however, distinctly recognize short theme from Lord of the Rings in there at 1:07. The piece where the Elves are marching into Helm's Deep, about 19 seconds of it. It fits in very nicely, and I doubt 19 seconds of non-game material in a 6:02 mix would kill it, but you might want to mention that in your submission if it was intentional. This is really good stuff. Keep mixing!
  4. Yeah ok, up until about 2:30, I thought "ok, it has a little bit from Star Wars in it, but not so much that it couldn't pass, providing you gave credit where it was due. At least, i think that's the way it would go. But then after that, yeah, way too much directly from SW to pass as a Zelda mix. BUT IT'S STILL BADASS! I am saving a copy of this. If you ask me to, I'll delete it, but this is an awesome arrangement, I can't wait to hear where you take this and I have some friends and relatives who are gonna start geeking out about it as soon as they hear. Thanks for posting!
  5. Dude, I'm not normally one to say something like this... and I certainly would argue anyone against driving drunk... but... REMIX WHILE DRUNK MORE OFTEN!!!!! THIS IS GOOD!!!!! Could use a little refining, especially some work with the trumpets and brass, but I really like it. Very creative arrangement. Rock on. -Heru
  6. This sounds very very much like something I tried to do a while back, but failed. Don't know if my tips are that helpful, but I'll give it a shot. This is meant as constructive critisism to help, not as judgement. The synths are very anoying near the beginning. They have a bit of buzzy static in them that just nags at the ears, see if you can filter that out or get rid of it. The explosion sound from the game gets very repetitive after the first couple of times, and it seems you use it in every transition. From the start to 1:50 or so it fairly repetitive, not really introducing anything new, or doing away with anything old. I liked the spacy wind-instrument synth you started using at 1:50, but then it was so painfully...short lived. I'm currently using all of my online hosting space for a submission which I hope will pass, but I don't know yet. Anyway, after it goes one way or the other, I'd like to pm you a link to what I did with this song, maybe we can start from scratch and do a collab on it. We both seem to have some similar ideas. I guess the main problem with this mix as is, more than anything else, is that it is soooo close to the original. For this to pass in ocr, you will have to add a piece of you to it, something not in the original, but of your own writing. And not just sound effects either. I think the standard to go for is to try and make your mix at least 20% your own composition or changes. Best of luck to you, please pm me if any of my comments are unclear, or if you'd be interested in collab.
  7. I think I can describe this with two words: BAD ASS
  8. Ok, I'm getting a friend of mine in the dorms to help me with the guitar (actual guitarist) and the ending. I wanted something that would be the guitar really showing off at the end. Thanks for the info on the Steel Machinery piece, I remembered it from playing the game, but could never really find it on the CD. I'm still almost positive that that pipe organ part came from a professional artist's song that I've heard somewhere... Ahh well, I'll figure it out soon enough, or I'll hear it in the mall or something. Thanks for the feedback guys, I'll give it some more work and update soon!
  9. bumping so people will see, I know I have a reputation for sucking at this, but I'd like to fix that, so any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks!
  10. Hey guys, It's been a while since I've been on. I was hoping I could get some help with this mix. linky: Hyrule Castle Rock One thing more: at 1:52, the pipe organ does something really sweet, my problem is that I'm almost positive I didn't make that up, and that it came from a song I've heard before. If anyone recognizes that bit, please tell me what the song is and who wrote it! I don't want to be a copycat! Thanks a bunch! Heru
  11. Well, I hope you get your mixing system back up and running. Once you do, here are some comments that may or may not be helpful. I love the guitar. It starts out sad, but the beat coming in at 0:56 brings a determined mood to the song. I hear strings coming in the backround but they're very quiet after 1:20. I think they should get louder steadily as they come back in at 1:50. It's gone almost a minute of just building up the same mood and it could use something that piles the drama on a bit. At 2:40, after all that building up, it just starts to fade down to a finish. No climax. We need something that kindof bursts out of the speakers. Something that releases all that emotion that has been gathering up through the song and makes you want to listen again. This sets a neat atmosphere, but as it is, it feels like a story with no ending. Maybe after it's faded down, right where you have the end of the piece, add something that brings back the theme with a huge punch. Like at 1:20 only more powerful. you've got something cool going here. Keep it up. I can't wait until you get your machine fixed, and I'm sure you feel the same way.
  12. Wow! lol, I wish I could be a part of this, especially as I'm working on a collab mix of Cosmo Canyon atm, but I just don't think I have the 1337 skills required to work on something this awesome. I'm really looking forward to hearing this, as I have played FF7 and I tend to appreciate the music for the characters it represents and the stories it tells. Geoffrey, rock on! Especially looking forward to hearing your stuff
  13. You posted an earlier version of this in the works in progress forum, and you said that it was a finished work and you weren't going to submit it. I really liked it though and saved a copy. Every time I listened to it I would think "With just a couple fixes here and there, this could definitely pass on OCR, and I could only hope that you had changed your mind, or just said you weren't going to work on it anymore so it would be a surprise, or something like that. And now I had almost given up on that, and BAM! there it is!!! You did an awesome job with this! <deletes his old copy of the previous version and saves this one to all playlists>. I had a few pieces of advice and critique when you posted the other version on the forums, but this.... This is beyond critisism in my mind. It must have taken alot of effort to go back and change things like this in a work which previously seemed finished. But that's good remixing. REALLY good remixing. Awesome stuff
  14. I am looking for a live guitarest who can and wants to give this a try: http://malletman.home.bresnan.net/music/works%20in%20progress%20(or%20lack%20thereof)/You_and_What_OTHER_Army.mp3 As you can tell, my synth guitar sounds like someone screeching their nails on a chalkboard. I really need a live guitarist for this. Please PM me if you want to give it a try. If you want a copy of this file with the non-guitar instruments removed, or all of them but the drums removed, let me know and I'll see what I can do.
