derako Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Hello all. Regarding the Cantata it's been a year and a half since we last worked on anything. SO Jeremy's and my new years resolution is to complete the 3rd movement. It hasn't been officially titled yet. If you have any questions about it fire away. Happy New Year everyone! -Derek- EDIT: Also Sprach Kefka is finished FINALLY!!! Download it below Also Sprach Kefka Quote
AJ-enova Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Oh yes! Looking Forward to the 1st sample... Quote
derako Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 Man this movement is crazingly awesome. Even though this doesn't follow the last battle of Kefka I'm hoping that the judges still approve it. I just got the strings wrapped up. Moving onto Brass and Woodwinds. Quote
SoulinEther Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 holy cow, it's a new year's resolution that will actually be resolved... and in a timely fashion. (that, or you guys want to get it posted within this year.. in which case, I suppose it's best to submit early lol) This is exciting news. Quote
AJ-enova Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Hoping to here some 4th Tier!!! lol. If not ah well Quote
derako Posted January 10, 2009 Author Posted January 10, 2009 The official title will be "Also sprach Kefka" Quote
Dunther Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Some days ago I was just asking myself why there wasn't the third movement yet =) it's great to see that it will come. Quote
Hemophiliac Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 The official title will be "Also sprach Kefka" 2001 Reference maybe? Quote
derako Posted January 21, 2009 Author Posted January 21, 2009 I've been working on the brass and have finished the trumpet, horn, and trombones... now I'm on to the tuba and woodwinds next. Just wanted to keep you all informed of my progress. It also keeps me accountable to working on it regularly. -Derek- Quote
derako Posted January 26, 2009 Author Posted January 26, 2009 Well I do have one worry and that is the length of the piece. It's 7:20 which is very long and it will be very challenging to get the mp3 below the size limit. Also if we do get it below I'm also worried that the sound quality won't be up to standards because of all the mp3 compression. One idea I had is that OCR may let us host the file for them. It would be a direct download from my site but I don't know if they would allow that. But it's an idea. Anyone else have any suggestions? Quote
WindStrike Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Bug them for an exception? So long as it's godly enough to permit it. I know vgmix.com would love to have some more love too. (love to have more love... *head-desks*) Quote

Just play around with LAME VBR encoding until you get as close to a full 6MB as you can. (And you should be able to get it right on the dot, considering the latest LAME allows decimal VBR-quality settings, like "-V 6.29".) Then host the song at better quality elsewhere, and as soon as the review thread comes up, post a link to the higher quality version. It's been done with plenty of precedent. EDIT: LOL, like all the previous Cantata mixes, I see. By the way, I just discovered those revised HQ versions of the first two Cantatas. Awesome goodness! Quote
derako Posted February 2, 2009 Author Posted February 2, 2009 Hello! I'm excited to bring you our first demo. This covers the first 5:00 minutes of the piece. I challenge anyone to list any of the 9 classical references. Some of the instruments aren't sampled yet including: snare drum, tambourine, cymbals, bass drum, and choir. So their still in softsynth form for now. Enjoy!! Sprachdemo01 Quote
Sil Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Come on, doesn't anyone recognize anything in this? I worked hard to rip off as many composers as I could here. Quote

Hemophiliac Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 beginning feels like OWA and Rite of Spring to be honest. Quote
Sil Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Excellent, you got two of them. Rite of Spring actually appears near the end at 4:28. Quote
Hemophiliac Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Zac Spruthasa of course, the 2001 theme. Quote
SSB Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 zac spruthasa? I'm really hoping that's "Also Sprach Zarathustra" Quote
