If you mean by sometimes, 99% of the time, then yes. As for him being brain-dead, it doesn't take a lobotomy to realize that the issue the kid is experiencing is one of three things. 1. Interface corruption stemming from modified code left over from the last build. Yes your add-ons probably caused this. It happens when you try to update before resetting your user interface. 2. Memory allocation issues, again likely due to use of modifications or add-ons pre-2.1.0. 3. Corrupted game files. This can happen over time with or without the use of add-ons or modifications. All three of these issues should be resolved by your standard Reset UI procedure. It'll be pretty great when a game master tells you to do this and you'll give him lip, or not do it properly, then claim it doesn't work. Eventually they'll tell you to run your repair.exe, which will reset your UI, and it'll magically fix your problem. Gee, I wonder why.

He's right, reset your fucking UI. also mike, lol

OCR00337 - Sonic the Hedgehog 2 "Bluest Sky"

"as a judge dur dur dur". I could write a novel on how judging music isn't within any of our grasps and how you or anyone else shouldn't be allowed to do it, but I'll save that rant for another time. Again I don't care about your reverb tutorial or the reasons you wrote it. The concept of reverb and how it's used is not hard to figure out with active listening. Oh hey there's a topic why don't you write a "tutorial" about that while you're at it. My original point was that I've seen you post idiotic things which I'll go ahead and sum up here Now don't get me wrong, I don't hate you or think you're stupid or anything. I just think you say some dumb stuff occasionally and it's very funny but at the same time can really hurt other people who don't know any better. =( Why did I speak up about it now? Well maybe to raise some self awareness that people may actually listen to what you're saying and that maybe you shouldn't come off as so opinionated on topics you even admit to yourself you don't know very much about.
-
First of all, I wasn't even talking about a stupid reverb tutorial in the first place. He brought the subject of a tutorial on reverb up (which is a pointless topic to give a tutorial about, mind you). Secondly, I wasn't "starting shit". I was more reffering to the stupid things I've read him post about various sample libraries that were supposed to be "helpful" to people, or his advice to others regarding what they should or shouldn't use. Also you seem to be misinformed if you think any of this has to do with OneUp. Josh was never part of OneUp, and Po! is no more part of it than DJPretzel.

Yes, because reverb controls are REALLY subjective topics. Obviously, an overdrive effect preset for one person is different for another person. Have you even bothered to *read* anything I wrote? They're mostly "basics" guides and simple techniques that have been thoroughly explored and written about for years. All I'm doing is writing them in the ReMixing forum and putting them into a practical context for hobbyist musicians. Interestingly, I don't see you posting in that forum at all, or doing much of anything at all on this website. So why do you even care? It seems to me like you just joined the bandwagon with JM + po of hating on a non-OUS musician. If there was an ounce of truth to what you were saying, maybe you wouldn't have made a fool of yourself on the air last night to everyone that was listening. JM and Po! aren't OUS musicians fag. Next point, Reverb is entirely subjective to the song. So is how to write a power ballad but I'm sure if I ask you'll tell me exactly what I'm looking for.

It wasn't hatin', If anything it was retrospect. My point kinda got lost on the fact that I spent too much time on other topics to get my thoughts together for that specific one. Basically, in short, there is no "right way" to write music and I felt that by offering any sort of tutorial on a subjective topic is retarded, and to try and get away with it by saying "this isn't the gospel" doesn't work because frankly idiots will see it and use it like one. =( To cry about it and say I quit is also funny shit.

OCR00892 - Radical Dreamers "Dreaming"
kaijin replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Ah.. but I am not able to find it here on this site. Was it removed in one of the 'purges'? Or do you mean 'Xenogears - SoftWindsCry'? he is talking about a remix that was written 6 years ago before I even knew about OCremix. It's not very good and really isn't a good example of exploiting emtion. A good example would be the much more recent and obviously higher quality "A momentary emotion" posted on VGmix. -

quote possibly the worst remix ever written.. I give it two thumbs down. There is no bassline to support it, the piano is shoddy, the drums are repetitious, the samples all suck, and ueumatsu would be rolling over in his grave.. oh wait, he's not dead yet =( worst. remix. ever... except maybe for Bloody Hell. what was THAT crap. -

It's always good to see a friend's work posted. That being said, I'll be reviewing this from the standpoint of a musician rather than a friend, even though I will be defending the song in this post. Eric hasn't been known to write the most amazing arrangements ever (though I will credit his help with my Radical Dreamers arrangement from chrono cross), but he's a very skilled player and composes some very beautiful works. A lot of you haven't had a chance to know him and his playing, but I can vouch that his guitar playing is extremely clean and precise unless he decides to make a mistake. He's a perfectionist and I hate that about him. Now to pick apart the piece. Eric's guitar playing is amazing and will probably continue to be for a very long time. However, the reverb isn't. He filled the holes with reverb and it just got to be too much. The song was repetitive, but then again, the original was like.. 45 seconds long. Go figure. It also bothered me that there was apparent copying and pasting for some parts. As for the guitar misnotes (I didn't hear any) and pitch bends, I probably wouldn't have done it any other way. If you were to question melodic interpretation, that's it right there. The harmonics aren't that impressive, but then again, they're not suppose to be. He wasn't trying to make the song into an epic piece, or try to bring out any feeling that wasn't originally intended. Instead, he was trying to shape the song using acoustic instrumentation and has succeded at that. The drums were bland and tended to drag on, but the fills were nicely thought out and cleverly placed. The string work was beautiful and held true to the original intent, though it wouldn't hurt to see it changed up. Knowing Eric, having worked with him before, he probably detuned the guitar slightly to give a live feel to this song. That would also explain the wet sound and the drowned reverb (along side the fact that he doesn't have a studio quality mic to record with, which makes things difficult). I know the fret/pick noises were most definitely left in for the same reasons. If you honestly don't like the sound though, oh well. I enjoyed it and welcomed every bit of it. Although I recommeded the song be posted, it wasn't posted because of the fact that it sounded live/professional, but rather, based on the fact that it was well done. Whenever anyone performs live, and does a good job, it's definitely worth applauding. However, I wouldn't hold it against them. Especially when others who spent 3 hours of their precious lives following their noses to download fruity loops, and mario paint get their submissions posted only because our good friend Protricity heard them and thought they were the greatest works ever. much love, Kai. -

jv session board samples? this was a really good idea up until i heard the sons of liberty theme. For some reason, it really didn't feel like it fit in with the mood of the song. just a bit out there... -
OCR00747 - Xenogears "Pilot the Yggdrasil"
kaijin replied to Ginnsu's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
All my works on OCR are ballads? Sorry, you're mistaken bro. Radical dreamers was not a ballad, it falls more under new age pop. Bloody Hell was obviously Hard Rock. Reel Big Mario was obviously Ska. To Far Away Times (featured on the commerical release SquareDance) was obviously electronica. and the only song there that really feautred someone elses work would probably be bloody hell cause even after I had arranged a purely rock version of the song, Ailsean took it to the next level (without butchering what I had already done). Though admittingly the rest that are actually posted on OC follow a ballad-esque trend, they're merely remixes. My original work covers far more styles than even those. My live works that I've been performing with my band even branch into acoustic alternative rock, punk, metal and many more. Anyways, I think I've made my point. -

Not to rag on Jared's works or anything because they all tend to stand out of the crowd that frequents this "scene" if I dare call it one, but this, to me, sounds like more of the same from him. Jared is very good at arranging songs to fit a Mitsuda-esque atmosphere. But I want to see him really expand into other genres, if he can do that. Sure, you'll probably point me to his little "hardcore" prelude cheese or something but that's not showing a real understanding of how to arrange in various styles. I think Jared has the potential to grow and simply hasn't taken the initative needed to do so. Now I suppose you'll ask if I've heard any of his original work. Yes, I have and it's quite mediocre for the industry standards (which, not surprisingly, is much higher than any of the crap we all do.) but still quite decent. Dispite the obvious shotty string parts and light brass work used to try and create a full sound, this arrangement in particular is still very nice. I like that trumpet patch he used... infact I think I might have it laying around here somewhere. The snare needs some more dynamics. Sure, it's a good sample, but the slight (if any) change in dynamics causes it to lack intrest (which apparently is driven by variations in pattern alone). The piano he used sounds like the same one used in most of his works, which, for the everyday listener, probably wouldn't bother you too much. However, I'm a pianist and it's starting to get to me. Not that you shouldn't use it anymore or anything, it's still a decent patch. Other than that, it's a fairly decent arrangement and I'm happy that it's gained a small cult following (or so it seems). -Kai- Ps. You do realize that if you keep mixing things with Harry Gregson-Williams style percussion lines, that people will grow tired. It doesn't hurt to add variety. -

yes, this was a short mix overall. infact I didn't spend too much time on it either... I was sorta just messing around. Thanks for liking it though. The only real reason I submitted it was because I was sorta taking a break and I was hoping it'd fill a small void between mixes. -

to be honest, I didn't do most of the work on this. I worked on the drums here and there and did the background ochestration. The rest was done by my good friend Eric Hache http://www.gamemusic.ca I'm glad you liked the track though, as it was one of my childhood favorites. -
OCR00355 - Castlevania II "Bloody Hell"
kaijin replied to Saunders's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I wrote the original mix, including the drumline and whatnot. Sent it on over to Ailsean, who recorded the guitars (inspired by Billy Idol) and mixed it even further, then we worked together on producing the track. The harmonized guitar solo (inspired by Pata of X-japan) was more my idea and the awesome phaser was his. I recall him saying that his hands were bleeding from trying to record that solo. Yes, the guitar work was done live. I'm honestly glad that everyone seems to like it. It's some of our finest work.
