Thank you for the comments! I wasn't really imagining any particular scene or anything. I just wanted to make the two themes and aesthetics they give off 'fight' back and forth within the form I had planned out. If anything, it feels most like the creation of Majora's mask to me (how the song of healing embodies an individual in a mask). Perhaps it's due to writing it, but I can't NOT hear the themes throughout. They do go through some good, old-fashioned development and are often reharmonized, but there are plenty of extremely straight-forward statements in there as well. I'd like there to be things to discover for the intent listener, so not everything will stay in the foreground at all times, but I'd argue there is plenty of presence throughout. However, I appreciate that I'm going to have a dissimilar perspective from someone not familiar with this piece. I try to keep the minor second motion as a starting indicator for the majora segments with the tritone that the song of healing outlines for those moments, but I'm curious to see if the themes are too hidden for most or if it will vary. I'm glad it is sounding pretty good to all of you, though. They're all East West samples, save for the live trumpet solo (which still isn't EQed how i'd like it for it to fit in right). I hope I can get some leveling work done this upcoming week to make it sound a bit more polished. I look forward to more feedback... there're a lot of listens so far. I'd love to hear some opinions before I wrap this up and sub.

Thanks for the comment! I think two themes is sufficient saturation for a sub-six minute piece, but final hour is one of my favorite tracks from the game. I did a remix of it when I was younger (for personal enjoyment) and would likely do another at some point. But, for now, I'm happy with these two. I've included a breakdown of where the themes are used and how in my original post. I admit to using them in supporting roles at times (ie, the bass line later on), but either the themes or some sort of derivative of the themes (or melodic patterns or whatever) is basically always present. I hope the breakdown helps. I look forward to more comments, particularly on things to check out or things that sounded off on your speakers that might not have on any of mine or headphones!

Some of you may remember this WIP from a while back. I had to stop working on it for a little while for many reasons, but I finally got back to it and got to the end. I'll update a little later with a breakdown of theme use, but for now know that it is based entirely off of and the from Zelda: Majora's Mask.0:00 - 0:20: Piano notes are Song of Healing beginning backwards. 0:20 - 0:38: Brass parts are Majora's Theme straight through, verbatim but with changed rhythm. Song of Healing interjections. 0:39 - 0:55: Song of Healing chords 0:55 - 1:10: Song of Healing melody harmonized 1:12 - 1:57: Majora's Theme, pretty straightforward statement 1:57 - 2:10: Development of piano motif, based on Song of Healing 2:11 - 2:38: Majora's Theme inverted 2:38 - 3:02: Strings are tapping Song of Healing 3:03 - 3:23: Piano is playing Song of Healing, but repeating each melodic unit. 3:23 - 3:30: Brass is playing around with Majora's Theme melodic material 3:30 - 3:58: Bass line is Majora's Theme, unchanged 3:58 - 4:19: Trumpet is playing second part of the Song of Healing 4:19 - 4:27: Brief Majora use in brass 4:27 - 4:42: Strings are playing the beginning of Majora's Theme with an added note 4:42 - 4:54: Combination of the starts of both themes in the strings (don't expect anyone to notice) 4:55 - 5:16: Majora's Theme with Healing interjections, ends with Song of Healing 5:20 - 5:46: Song of Healing, Both the piano repetitions and the single notes of the melody (omitting a few) interspersed in piano. I don't expect everyone to hear all of it, but the themes are crucial and always present in some form or another. I do not want every statement to be perfectly clear--this is an arrangement, so neat uses of the melody are important to me. Things on my checklist currently: Some leveling. Some EQ, etc. to decrease any mud. Let me know what you think and what I can do to improve it! Click here to listen to Majora8.mp3

wip Red Alert 2 - Hell March (Film)
C7 replied to PrototypeRaptor's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I like it a lot. It sounds nice overall, you're handling the samples well. I could stand for more alterations to some of the repeating motifs. It also seems backwards that you have toms (or whatever) so long before the big brass entering but then it was largely stick clicks. I'd say spread that repeating rhythm through some other percussion (cascading) so that it builds with timbre and volume--I think you'll like the result more. The clicks are great, but don't lose the toms for the impact moment. The last while is very Zimmer-esque and it sounds nice having the stuff together, but it needs to develop more rather than just repeat and keep layering stuff on top. Excellent work so far, though! And keep it up--I'd love to hear this finished. -
This is really fantastic work so far! I love it and it really sounds nice. It stays quite close to the originals arrangement-wise, which isn't a bad thing really. Some of the double-tongued stuff in the link to the past section could've been dove-tailed between players (overlapping and passing) instead of a big break or two to breathe, but otherwise very nice work. The players are doing very well and I can't wait to hear this polished. They all have a very nice sound. My particular favorite part was the flugelhorn (I presume) solo. Keep at the rehearsals and this will be a stellar piece on the site.

finished The Quiet Mountain [Gurgu Volcano, FF1]
C7 replied to DragnBreth's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Its a very good start! Arrangement-wise it works decently so far, though I'm not familiar with the source. I'd say some of those lines aren't supremely pianistic (single line melodies are fine, but there's often more than just that--even octaves, but 6ths and stuff accompanying, etc). Production-wise, the piano is functional and isn't really a bad soundfont, but you could do more to make it sound more real (proper stereo imaging, eq, whatever). I'm not the best at giving suggestions on how to do this, but there's room for improvement on something that's pretty good so far. Keep it up! -
Thank you very much for the kind words of encouragement thus far and for the helpful critiques! I had to take a break for a while due to life, but I posted a breakdown in the original post for people curious of where the themes are used or don't recognize them immediately. I've fixed some stuff people've said, but I still have a ways to go and a lot more eq/mix work to do (along with finishing the piece!). My intention with the piece is build into statements of the melody rather than starting with them. I intentionally obscure it in portions while taking different twists with it that lead into more conventional usage of the themes and motives. The ending portion of the piece will be fast like ~:20 introduces, making the piece [intro]Fast, Slow, Fast. Please keep the comments coming! Encouragement and critiques are more than welcome. Thanks for the comments thus far! I appreciate them and either have or will use them to better the piece. Current status (ver 2): -Still not done writing it--my wife got sick so time goes where it's needed. -Its much longer, I've addressed a few production errors but that really won't come until the end. I want the source to become progressively more clear throughout. Full melodic statements are saved for somewhere other than the beginning, but rest assured, the whole thing is based on those tunes (and some of the harmonies in the originals). Mini-breakdown: 0:00-The whole piano figure introduction is playing with the notes of the song of healing melody. The first three notes of the melody are repeated backwards (identical to lost woods, by the way). Gradually, the notes from the melody are added in (think set-class theory, perhaps), with an altered version surfacing. 0:21-The frantic sections are every note of the Majora theme, in order, just broken up around the more obvious song of healing interjections. The rhythm and harmony is changed, but not really anything else. 0:38-The song of healing gets some center stage presence for a while. I apologize for the light clipping on the piano at this point--I'll get there. 1:16-A rather straightforward clarification of Majora's theme. The form of the piece will make more sense upon completion of the piece. I look forward to more comments and thanks for the support already! PS - Happy 4th of July!

wip Mega Man Legends - That Feeling...It's Love!
C7 replied to Dash Myoku's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I like it a lot overall. It has a nice, peaceful feeling. If you're going for orchestral, though, I might recommend you consider how the individual players would handle this. For instance, the woodwind repetitions not only sound a little funny because they're all identical and don't have a lot of variance, a real player would hate you . You have a good foundation here, though. Try to expand on it (which you said you would, so no doubt it'll turn out well) and do some more creative things with the available forces. -
Click here to listen to majora004.mp3 I've visited OCR for quite a few years and used to be active on the forums under a different pseudonym, but I took a break from lots of things for a while. So I really wanted to come back and do a remix for the site and decided on the underrepresented Majora's Mask soundtrack for source material. Themes used: Song of Healing, Majora's Theme Its obviously not done and will go through many changes (along with writing the rest of it!), but what do you think so far? 8/2 Update: Due to life, I had to take a break from the mix for a little while, but I'm back! It's longer, better mixed, and a bit more complete. I still have to finish it and do a lot of mix/eq/etc work, but how's it coming along? Here's a theme breakdown thus far: 0:00-0:20: Song of Healing in reverse, repeated quickly. Adds more notes as it progresses. 0:20-0:23, 26-28, 30-33, 36-38: Majora's Theme, in its entirety, but rhythmically augmented and in different voices. 0:23-25, 28-30, 33-36: Song of Healing, pretty straightforward. 0:38-0:54: Song of Healing harmonies 0:54-1:10: Later part of Song of Healing, with harmonies added 1:12-1:58: Majora's Theme pretty much straight through. 1:42: Song of Healing interjection 1:58-2:12: Distorted Song of Healing repetitions (see intro) with underlying touches of the Majora feel 2:12-2:39: Majora's Theme, taking the chromatic dissonance in the melody and passing it through the harmonies 2:39-: Song of Healing

Shnabubula Presents Ender's Game
C7 replied to Sam Ascher-Weiss's topic in Post Your Original Music!
wowowow! I just read this again for the 5th or 6th time and got my girlfriend into it all! I'm gonna be addicted to these, i know it. -
sorry i haven't commented on your new wip yet. been sorta busy but i have listened to it and its coming along nicely
-
Joker, if you don't find anything to host the song on, e-mail it to Cubed777@gmail.cmo but spell com correctly and I'll have it up with a link for you tomorrow (i work 10-6 EST so any time around then)
-
Ok, i sent in my wip. Just drop a line in here if you got it, i suppose. If not i'll resend or something
-
Okay, my first ordeal i'll be working towards is replacing all synth leads in my mix yet again and i'll just post a general request for anyone willing to help me out some with it since synth stuff is most certainly not my forte. I would need to come up with a kind of deeper (not lower in pitch) kind of "smokey" type sound for one I suppose and then a clearer up-front and interesting synth lead without having it stray into being piercing. Neither part would work well with traditional instruments. Thanks Otherwise i'll be checking around for specific parts of my song that I think a particular remixer might have good advice on.
-
theeeerrre we go, got my WIP in. College auditions've been in the way but I like the progress that's been made. I hope the rest of those people on the list get their WIPs in...
-
ahh i'm so glad this got started... this is massive, good luck guys. Umm if anyone needs a live trumpet part just pm me. Just keep it (concert) Eb above the treble staff as the highest--which is past the normal range anyways.
-
^^^ because its very important to make the whole PROJECT as enjoyable to listen to as possible. If there happens to be a bunch of slow mixes in a row with the standard level order or a bunch of fast ones in a row, etc then it doesn't keep the variety across the board as evenly and would lead to an unbalanced overall product
-
Gah... must. get. more. ram. in an effort to fix the gripe i've gotten in the past of my sampling not being all that great and my production values only being average, i've gotten whole new sound libraries and done significant upgrading. but it turns out my gig of ram is no longer holding up as enough. so my work will be delayed a bit (i'll still make the feb 6th deadline), but i at least already have a very solid 2 minutes completed (pre-mastering). I'll probably pm a copy/link of it to ori and see if i'm heading in a direction he sees fit. and yeah, that private forum idea sounds very nice
-
i've at least started mine if you're interested in knowing and like how its turning out so far, but i'm going to rework the last section i've got before i post a wip or anything
-
ahh, it looks like all but one theme are taken. I'd definetely be willing to give it a shot on "The Focus" since its all thats left, although it doesn't matter to me so much what track i get. If you think there's another I'd be more suited to, i'd definetely take it, but the list is almost full. I don't think any of you know me. If someone already has it and its just not listed, no biggie, but give my stuff a listen and see if its up to your standards. A couple samples: http://www.cubed777.com/music/rome.mp3 this was done in a weekend for a class party thing. Some is light, some is dark. I prefer dark. Oh yeah, a small experiment I had with this song is here: http://www.cubed777.com/music/romeset.mp3. Nothing big, just seeing how a part of it sounded with a drumset this one is mixed low at the moment because i never got around to remastering it and yes, the synth at the end is a bit obnoxious, i know. http://www.cubed777.com/music/Cubed777%20-%20Stealth.mp3 and this last one was from Halloween 2004... i've improved since it (yes, it clips around 1:50) but I still kinda like it and it keeps with the dark theme http://www.cubed777.com/music/Cubed777%20-%20Abyss.mp3 oh yeah, i have the capabilities to use live instruments as well, although none of these songs use them.
