  1. if you have a midi, a fruity loops file or a module (mod, xm, it, s3m), it's really easy, you just need to use a decent software. if you're talking about an mp3, you can use a BPM calculator. there are some of them around somewhere. they usually ask you for you to tap your spacebar while listening to the song, and they guess the tempo in this way. there was also a winamp plugin that could do that by itself, not sure if it's still around. anyway, if you tell us the format of your song, I'm sure you'll get more feedback.
  2. Normal: check out the stickies (read: threads that appears at the top of the page) in this forum: http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=7 they answer a lot of common question. and if they don't, ask. Good luck!
  3. hello buddy, and welcome here, I hope you'll enjoy your stay.if you're here to become a remixer, my suggestion is to download plenty of these awesome remixes, and then don't be shy and post your questions here and your remixes here. feedback from talented people is going to arrive.
  4. Send it over, so I can check it out. Check your PMs Larry. uh-oh
  5. OT: there's a way to extract vocals from the original file, I had this some need some time ago too. but you have to find an instrumental version of the original song. then you can do an algebraic operation like: Full Song - Instrumental Song = Vocals Only maybe my old thread is still around here, zircon gave me a great help on that topic. /OT back to your question... I can't sing. check my remixes on olremix.org if you want to feel not alone I heard there are some softwares that allows you to edit your voice and make it seems good. no clues on this topic anyway.
  6. DST is tonight in italy. but I may will be there, since I can't miss the 84th show.
  7. . Better?LT: Still a stray white pixel on the right side of his face near his neck. Yep. mmmmh, it doesn't seem a stray pixel to me, I think it's part of his face.anyway: Pick the one you like better, or ask me for more edits. LT: I'll see what I can do myself to put the finishing touches on it. sorry, it's probably an issue of the Genesis palette LT: Yeah, it's definitely the Genesis itself. I noticed looking at our screen cap for Sonic & Knuckles with Lover Reef that the title screen is dark. It's certainly not your fault. I didn't take the Knuckles one, because that sprite only works when he's attached to some sort of border/wall. It doesn't look right otherwise. Which ones? I tried to pick some, let me know if you prefer some others (like the shields, or whatever). LT: Now that I think of it, let's just do the shields, reverse S, and invincibility. The character/1-up ones don't look as good, but I took the 10 rings and the fast foot ones. Thanks a lot. edit... New avatars!!! By request: LT: Hahaha! They're old school, but they don't look good at all, sorry. not really a request, but Bonk is cool: LT: Why's he upside-down? I suppose that's a move he does in the game, but it just looks he needs to be flipped right-side up. Flip it please. request: Commander Keen LT: Too small. Really needs detail. Go for more of a facial picture instead.
  8. what's wrong with this mixer? I had to work on one of these things a couple of times, and they're not bad.small, sure, but it's a nice toy.
  9. good point. it depends for me. as you know, I'm not a great remixer, and it's rare for me to write a remix. I really need a big amount of inspiration to start, and like zircon I start in different ways. I may start completely from scratch, like I sit in front of my tracker and I think "K let's write some stuff here", but I need to be very familiar with the source tune (like I did with Tetris and F-Zero, for example). When I proceed in this way, I may start from a random position within the song, according to what is my favorite part in that song. In my Overtop remix (everything I mention is on OLR, fyi), for example, the pattern sequence is 4, 1, 0, 2, 8, 6, 7, 5, 3. What a coherent mind! Well, I wrote it in 1999, so I was younger, it's actually my first remix ever. Then I write all the rest, including more channels (like guitars and drums) to fill up the harmony. I can either proceed in other ways, but the main steps are always these ones. And then I add some effects (panning and so on).
  10. More sprites! (so I made a new post since the old one was already long) Did I already say that I love Sonic? These sprite are from several games (S3&K, Sonic Adventure, Sonic Spinball, ...) LT: The yellow Super Sonic one you did earlier, the one about to run, can you brighten that one too? It's too dark, now that I look at it again. Vector LT: Too dark. Amy LT: Took the one with the horn or whatever that is. Cream and Chao LT: Took the last two. Tails LT: Just took the last one. Sonic 3 swimming Tails is too dark. Sonic LT: Just took the one 3rd from the right, trying to halt his running. Forget the rest. Spring (object) LT: Too dark. Just fix the red spring. Piraña (enemy) LT: Too dark. All your Sega Genesis screen captures/sprites are too dark. Knuckles LT: Took the first and last. Monitor (object) LT: Too dark. All of them. I'm guessing we'll only use some of them, since there are so many. Nack the Weasel LT: Too dark. Just use the first one. Enjoy edit: some Dig Dug for Oldschool. note: I couldn't use transparency on these ones because they have white parts on their edges. so I kept a black background, and I added a canvas for the same reason. they're really editable anyway. LT: Badass. Took the first 4. edit again: this is K' dash from King of Fighter. LT: A little too pixelated; some of the edges are really rough. Thanks for all the hard work here. Once you get the Genesis sprites brighter, we can add most of them.
  11. Winamp -> Play -> Repeat Yes. Glad to listen to this remix at last, I loved this since it was posted in the WIP forum. Zircon is a well-known remix master; Taucer has shown to be a very good guitarist; vocals work fine (couldn't be otherwise with Pixie's experience). Put these talented people together and this is what you get. Weak point: it's too short. But this is the purpose of the repeat/loop feature.
  12. I reviewed this remix in the WIP forum earlier (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=2255940#2255940). I loved it, but I noticed some minor clickings. Djp asked DarkeSword to fix them and now this piece is going to be one of my favorites. Nice, nice, nice work!
  13. Let's see if I can quote the correct stuff in the correct place... I'm not sure what do you mean as stray pixels. I have two edits about this anyway: LT: Stray pixels are any pixels that mess up a transparency effect. You had some white pixels on the edges on the Amy picture that you didn't make transparent. In any case, the close-up face is way better for the ladies. Nice work. What's wrong with these? I'm not arguing, for sure. But I find these two pretty funny. And they're ripped sprites, so if they're wrong just tell Sega's artists. Should I recolor them with the non-super colors? edit: done. See my new post about this. LT: Pink is lame if it's not for the ladies. I saw the edit with the regular colors, by the way, so I used one of those. Ok, you're not going to take a lot of anime stuff... but I love these ones... Please... at least one... LT: Nah, the picture choices are lame, plus they're not sharp enough. Again, I'm not sure about that. Anyway: . Better?LT: Still a stray white pixel on the right side of his face near his neck. Yep. What about this? LT: Eggcellent. Please?LT: Nope. Get a screen capture and do it with a background, rather than transparent. The quality here isn't sharp enough anyway. Does this mean he's in or out?LT: My bad. Yeah, the dog is definitely in. Never saw the movies, BTW. They're probably lame. I just thought that was a really unexpected idea for an avatar. Ok, so Taz is smooth, but is he in or out?LT: Well, the face is cropped too closely. I'd really prefer for most cartoon characters to be game sprites, otherwise we'll get a glut of Disney and Warner Brothers cartoon avatars, which I'm not gonna do. And yeah, in the Genesis game you see him upfront.I hope you know that he's displayed from behind in the video game... I guess I shouldn't use that pic (later edit: my fault. that pic is from the SNES game) Sure. LT: YES! The first one is exactly what we need. Awesome. This MUST be in. Edit: reworked for sharpness. LT: Nah, just too bright and looks lame. Try getting a more modern version of Pac-Man. No problem, I like to be useful. edit (more avatars): Rework on Yusuke: LT. Nah, forget that one. Image is too shrunken down. You tried to apply more sharpness and it just made it look pixelated. Try some other shot of the guy. Then, since you like sprites from actual games, a whole bunch of sprites from Sega Master System games! (they are easy to rip) LT: Thanks a lot for tackling some lesser-known and underappreciated games here. This helps us a lot. djp in particular will probably be happy with Sega Master System love. Alex Kidd: LT: Took the first two. Asterix: LT: Wow, that can't be Master System graphics, this one looks too good. Aztec Adventure: LT: Ick. Gangly looking things, I'll pass on these. Ghost House: LT: Took the first two. Kung Fu Kid: LT: HIIIIIIIIIII-YAH! Rastan: LT: Cool. Spy Vs Spy: Heckel Jackel LT: Why did the game make their bodies flesh-colored. Makes them look like deformities. Pass on these, but thanks very much for the ones that were solid. You're helping a great deal and I appreciate it.
  14. Some new random ones from me. Balto Scrooge Mc Duck Koenma (from Yu Yu Hakusho) Taz Albert Einstein LT: Hahahah! Balto! Man, you need to smooth/sharpen these all out. Except for Taz, these images are just not smooth enough. I don't mind cartoon characters but would rather see them in video game form, not pictures. How about Scrooge from DuckTales for the NES or Taz from Taz-Mania for the Genesis? Overall, stick more to video game images. I'm not really gonna add many non-VG images aside from animes, and even then, the anime stuff isn't gonna be huge either. Don't lose focus.
  15. More ones from me! And I'm too lazy to edit again my old post , so +1 and who cares. Indiana Jones: Donald Duck: Sanae, the hot girl from Capitan Tsubasa: Great Saiyaman, from Dragon Ball Z: Ivo "dr. Eggman" Robotnick, from Sonic: Homer Simpson: Bender, from Futurama: A random mushroom from Super Mario: Old Windows' Logo (nostalgia +1): "Roguelike" (nemimen's request): (note: minor edit on a transparency. you may need to reload your cache) LT: The Super Mushroom look good. Indiana Jones just needs some stray pixels removed. But you gotta refine the overall quality of your avatars. Look at how clean and smooth the resize on your Neko avatar is; almost none of the ones here look as good. If you can get the big Robotnik sprite to not be so dark, we can use that too.
  16. People, here you are some brand new avatars. Misc. characters from Sonic games: Amy Rouge Shadow Some Knuckles (also Super): (super) Super Sonic!: From Yu Yu: Botan Hiei Kurama Yusuke Urameshi Inuyasha: Pacman: From Great Teacher Onizuka: Tomoko Nomura And, as usual, the whole pack: http://digilander.iol.it/sambevolley/NinekoAvatarsPart3.zip Packs 1 and 2 are still online (just rename the url by hand), if you want to search in them for some previously rejected avatars you want me to rework. I would be happy to handle all your requests. Late edit: Arek asked for some Rock Lee... ... and he gets some Rock Lee: Late edit 2: Falchion asked for Harle... ... and he gets Harle: Late edit 3: Someone asked for Kakashi... ... and he gets Kakashi: LT: Ooooook. Well I suppose there's nothing wrong with throwing a lot of ideas against the wall and seeing what sticks, but you gotta make high quality avatars, not just a bunch of cruddy ones. A lot of these are not sharp enough, not detailed enough because the images are too shrunken down, too dark, too light, or attempting to go for transparency but has stray pixels or would look better with a background. So I'm only gonna pluck the well-made stuff. So I'll take the closeup of Knuckles, Super Sonic preparing to run, and Harle. Thanks for those, bro. I'll take Amy Rose if you eliminate the stray pixels.
  17. my paint shop pro 5 is back! now I'm up for any kind of avatar request. a lot of my ones made their path in the last bunch, so I'll do my best to contribute again
  18. rapidshare seems good to me; anyway, I have some free webspace. if any remixer needs host for some days I have no problem to help them. just PM me and we can discuss about it.
  19. The last time I submitted a lot of good avatars... this time I can't work on them, unless someone finds me a place to download Paint Shop Pro 5 (assuming that it's abandonware now). Find me Paint Shop Pro 5 and I'll make all the avatars you want.
  20. yes! I was in! now I can't wait for the mp3
  21. you need an hex editor. the ms-dos EDIT is fine.Start -> Run -> Cmd.exe then something like "C:\Windows\Your Mom>" appears. type "EDIT" and press enter File -> Open browse to find your file, and open it. make sure you check the "Binary" checkbox (I don't know its actual name since I'm running the italian version). do what is explained in the first post. File -> Save File -> Exit Have a nice day
