  1. For height, ive just used books in the past. Make sure you take a look at the instruction manual as it will usually tell you the proper angles to place them at for how far you are away from them. If placed correctly you'll get the center channel effect going on which sounds pretty cool
  2. Its all math really.....counting wise. And for chords and scales its really quite simple. Theory is probably one of the easiest things to learn about music, and once you know it its easy to sit down with anyone and just play quickly. Also, if your learning theory, don't mix it up reading music. 2 TOTALLY DIFFERENT SKILLS that should never be intertwined IMO. I know a ton of amazing jazz players who can make up the most beautiful harmonies and chord voicings, but when it comes to reading they are a bit slow. Either way, theory is so important.
  3. you can get a pair of warfdale diamond 8.1 pros. Very nice near field monitors at a decent price, i think they are just over 100 bux each.
  4. Well i purchased the M-audio Prokeys 88. Ive tried some of their semi-weighted key pianos and im not to impressed. They're OK if your just learning to play piano. Also i purchased mine because it had build in sounds so i wasnt stuck to the computer. But overall, as a midi keyboard, it works nicely. If your looking for a concert piano type controller, probably not your best choice. M-audio is solid though.
  5. The most efficient way to record a guitar is to mic the amp with a couple of instrumental mics. If you go directly in, your not getting the true sound of the guitar, your mearly getting the signal that the pickups are sending. The amp's job is to display the guitars true sound, so you get a better quality with natural reverb etc.
  6. Thats funny. Because i learned drums by buying a pair of sticks and teaching my self rudiments on my mousepad. From there i basically just read tabs and played drums anywhere I had the chance. I myself don't own a drumkit.
  7. Really nice work with the guitar and rhythm. Only thing i could suggest would be to oomf up the drums a bit.
  8. Best way to really know how to sequence drums is to know how to play them and what works well. You have the experience that way, and you're less likely to do things which sound less realistic.
  9. Aside from buying a midi drum pad, the best thing to do for humanizing a sequenced drum loop is definatley velocity. You'll know mostly which hits you would play louder and which sound good soft or loud. But also remember to add in some human error when it comes to the volume, because they all wont be the same. A bit of velocity editing goes a long way.
  10. Reuben's work on Chrono Symphonic was astounding. He was a very talented musician and remixer, and I will greatly miss his contributions to the community.
  11. Hey, well recently I've just been busy with stuff, thus equaling a block on the non-conformist side of my brain. I can usually get some stuff started but the ideas stop coming. This is why I'm looking for someone to collab with. I play piano, guitar, trumpet, harmonica, accordion and bass. For game titles, I'll basically remix anything but i mostly like the chrono series, final fantasy series, mario, zelda, banjokazooie, breath of fire, donkeykong etc. As for styles, rock and jazz preferred. Anyways, if your interested in getting something go, give me a shout. cheers
  12. Well, Here it is, the 2nd album (next to chrono trigger) That i've always wanted to see remixed, and it's finally here. From what I've heard so far, it is amazing, great job to all the remixers on project. It has a fair number of piano solo songs, which appeal to me, and they are very well written, tis hard to write a good solo piano piece. The songs are amazing, and I cant think of any i've heard so far that have trashed the original. The album art is also very well done. Overall, this is my new official favorite, still tied with CS tho. Kudos
  13. A sm58 would be better than an sm57 for vocals
  14. Well, I'm always positively biased for Chrono songs, but when a nice piano arrangement can make me smile, the composer has done their job. Amazing job, the dynamics were perfect and the time swings really made it beautiful. Harmonies were very good, and it takes a good pianist to write really good sounding harmonies the way you did in this. Ausome work man, I hope to hear more.
  15. They were suppose to be touring months ago, but Eddie went back into rehab.....
  16. Hey, some good ideas here. When the lead piano comes in it sounds a bit clumsy. Timing wise, and it also is a bit, well not integrated, but thats a mixing thing. I like the part around 1:30, nice little gentle part. And again after that part the entrances of the piano is a bit rough. I'd say work on the mixing of the piano, and timing. The guitar coming in at end sounds good. Overall, good work.
  17. Wow, some very very nice ideas here. The beginning is a little bit repetitive, but once it hits the countdown and into the main theme, that is very cool. It had a really cool segue into it, and the lead synth sounds really good with the pads. Id say maybe work on intro a bit, and you've got yourself a really a solid mix, and any flaws mechanically that some people might point out can be overshadowed by the originality of this song. Great work
  18. Ok, well it gets a little better after the halfway mark of the song. But I've noticed its just a lot of different loops built over top of each other, which isn't bad (most techno songs are like that anyway >_>) But it dosen't make for smooth song. A bit of variation within the beats themselves can help to clean that up. That could be as simple as the loop ending on an A one time and a C the next. Also it should have more velocity type differences. It seems to just stay at one speed/intensity, which can get a tad boring. Throw in some mellow segues etc. and that'll also help with variation. Either way, this has some good ideas, it just needs some variation to bring those ideas more forward.
  19. LoL, this happens to be my favourite song from PoC. Suprissingly the electric guitar makes a good substitution for the violins/cellos in the original, and it almost sounds like some irish folk tune lol. good work
  20. i didnt think there was a way to change the tempo of an audio file in flstudio. The sound quality would just get crappy, and im guessing the tone would drop.
  21. Headphones are good, but i'd go with a pair of monitors. Also, i dont know how much it is, but Edirol Orchestral is a decent start for orchestrated stuff.
  22. Haha, great work, aside from a few offtime errors its really good. Good idea.
  23. ya its really nice. Its fancy, but its not like "oooh look at me, im better than html" fancy
  24. Hi, i was wondering... When you use your sustain pedal while doing a midi keyboard recording, the notes are all really long on the piano roll, and it is really hard to know where some begin and some end, and cutting the song off at a point is nearly impossible, is there a way i can cut stuff at the end of a clip or make the last chord shorter without cutting off a note from 4 bars earlier?
