Final Fantasy VII: Voices of the Lifestream - History
OmegaDonut replied to zircon's topic in Projects
Boy oh boy did I pick the wrong week to have my project featured in GenDisc. -
It's really cool how this was supposed to be for an OverLooked ReMiX project, even though Diggi Dis never actually submitted it. Although if he did, it might be yet another Triple Crown mix (OCR\VGMix\OLR), if they decided to ignore the fact that it's too good for their standards. Seems like joecam gets a lot* of Triple Crowns with his projects... *by "lot", I mean "more than anyone else has

Is there still a backlog on orders? I had a problem with my baseball t-shirt (as below), and I returned it within 30 days of the shipping date, as it says on the ZTnet site, but I have not yet recieved a new shirt yet. And the e-mails I have sent to the admin regarding the issue have gone unanswered.

I did the encoding. You'll notice that many mixes, including the amazing Triforce Majeure, go FAR below 96kbps during VBR. It's not uncommon to set the minimum to something like 32kbps in fact. This was a very long mix and thus it was very difficult to encode without going over the maximum filesize, 6mb. Notice that the mix size is 5.8mb. I did everything humanly possible to maximize the quality while staying under that limit. There is also no clipping. I made absolutely sure of that and ran it through three different kinds of analysis to check. Regardless, it does clip on my headphones quite a lot; even under the same settings, most of the songs I listen to don't clip so much, if at all. May I request a version with a higher bitrate?

OCR01446 - Chrono Trigger "Tears of Contention"
OmegaDonut replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I still have a feeling Clairvoyant Elegy will remain the furry-porn-inspiring champ out of these two. While the piano was the big central part of them both, the instruments in Tears of Contention sound like they're more clustered around the piano than in Clairvoyant Elegy, making it sound a bit too cluttered for my tastes. Blad's style usually reflects Yanni's (although not so much in this piece) but the accompaniment knows to gently support the piano and keep its distance. I think Clairvoyant Elegy accomplishes this much better. Don't get me wrong, I love Blad's piano playing and TO's accompaniment - especially the percussion - in this. I just feel they could mesh a little better. -
I found that Neil Benjamin posted tablature for "Far Away Memories" on his site.

Holy crap! Dude, everybody, meet Hiarashi, the one who gave me the nick "Blizihizake." Hi Hiarashi, dude who gave Blake the nick "BliziHiZaKe!" -
OCR01442 - Chrono Trigger "Door to the End of Time"
OmegaDonut replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Sometime ago I had the opportunity to hear this in its early WIP stage, back when it was called "Gates at the End of Time". I had no idea who wrote it, or how it managed to get into my collection, but at least now I know just where it went. And I'd also like to echo Shna's comment about how amazing a creation Blake has created at the age of 16. Blake, you should totally get your school orchestra to play this song. -
You know, it wouldn't be too difficult to copy it all to a text file and host it on your site.

Shael, gimme some more of that shimmy-soft synth rock. Or horror hip-hopesque beats. Whatever the hell it may be. -
Eric Barker's (Noir) Jenova for Classical Piano.

"Lucca's Arrival", simply because it contains Battle with Magus. I'm a sucker for Magus' theme song. About the mirrors, though... I want to be able to get the tracks to my friend so he can set up the mirror before the release. Is there going to be enough time before the release date for the mirror set-up?

OCR01333 - Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time "Prayer"
OmegaDonut replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
She did, in fact, use Garageband. Good ears. Come to think of it, I haven't thanked pixie yet for ReMixing one of the most haunting melodies from Ocarina of Time and turning it into an even more beautiful piece. So... thanks, pixie! -
I was really looking forward to hearing a sample of Rexy's Fighting of the Spirit arrangement, but I guess you're keeping that under tight tight tight security for now.

Now I'm going to think of blue balls every time I see the BSoD. Thanks, pixie.

Yeah, yeah, I know. But that ka-ching is really prominent. -

Personally, I think Myth Naz should've used a bit more variety in his sound effects besides the cash-register "CHING!'s, but it still got a good laugh out of me. Also, the link wasn't working for me earlier either, but now it seems to be back up and running. -
It's easy to complain about the quality of vocals when a number of other people have set the bar so high on OCR. Personally, I'm actually impressed by the progress Darangen's made with his vocals. Some people simply just don't have a voice for singing, and I thought Darangen was one of them when I heard his FF6 piece "Solitary Sorrows". "Falling Back" has definitely dispelled that notion for me. And that's coming from someone who's been a vocalist for about six years now. Now, Darangen, are you gonna give me a response to my e-mail or not?

I lol'd some time ago when some cultural dilettante put "leet" under the hip-hop slang article on Wikipedia. It's not there anymore (thankfully), lest someone might start thinking that the entire population of internet nerds were trying to imitate hip-hoppers. Anyway, Myth Naz put together a radio edit version where all the swearing was replaced by Earthbound sound effects. Check it here.
