  1. Gracias it's my third fully printed design, although I was given a few assets such as the logo, which I edited to my tastes. the dev liked the cover enough to make it the new app icon too. :3
  2. Hey guys! So.. I'm a video game composer now!! Bitstream just released on the App Store today. 3. link was a little misleading, I don't think this sounded like a definite no in any way. the piano sample wasn't top-of-the-line (I actually really liked the pluck on the higher notes), mixing is a little thin and the placement of the pianos could have been a bit more cohesive, but I thought this was perfectly listenable. even the sequencing was pretty solid imo and the song was very dynamic, although those constant 8th notes do get a bit tiresome. some more 'breakdowns' or half-tempo segments in the arrangement would have been beneficial to this imo, but overall I'm liking this one. YES
  4. totally kickass arrangement, as I've come to expect from you. Your stuff never fails to bring to mind Grant Kirkhope and the BK soundtrack, and that's high praise. as for critiques, those highs can get pretty.. high sometimes. the energy level also seemed pretty static so some kind of breakdown or tempo changes would have helped spice things up. however, that stuff is nitpicking. overall I really like the song a lot, and as always am looking forward to what you cook up next. YES
  5. ooh, trippy. really liking the percussion in the intro, some really nice rhythms. some aspects of the production as well as some of those raunchy bass synths could have been a little cleaner, but I can't overstate how awesome this song is at times. those drops that implement the sfx as part of the dubstep groove are so creative and awesome. great mileage out of a limited source.* nice stuff here, looking forward to more. YES
  6. ah man, loved this track in the sonic compo. such a fresh take on the Mystic Cave theme, with a funky beat and some tight processing. there are a few rough spots in terms of samples (not in love with that sax lick that plays from time to time) and some of the string articulations were a little wonky. the rapping could have been a litttttle bit tighter, and the mixing of the vocals pretty much cut all of the lows and mids, to the point where it kinda sounded like there was a hi-pass filter on 'em; but they were a nice touch. the ending was weak. overall however I thought this had a lot of merit, and the arrangement outweighs its shortcomings for me. YES
  7. Im really liking the arrangement here in general- this is a tough piece to remix IMO, but I think you're headed in the right direction. a few production issues though; piano sounds really fake, and the sequencing is really mechanical and repetitive. the main brass lead as well - the articulations and sustain (especially that vibrato) sounds robotic, even moreso simply because that instrument is just so exposed. the master gain is also a bit hot, and overcompressed in general, try to tone that back and eliminate unneeded EQ's on your individual instruments. those are my main issues with this- otherwise the arrangement is nice (if a bit sparse at times), and the other instruments were serviceable, but still somewhat thinly mixed. try and see if you can humanize the sequencing a bit, and maybe experiment with some different brass and piano samples. NO(resub)
  8. hey, glad to see you submitted this. I assume it's the same version from the compo. I really loved the way you handled the arrangement for the most part, and there's some really great interplay between the two themes. OA nailed a lot of the production/sound issues (especially that piano), which I agree are holding this back, although the overall production is pretty clean and balanced imo. it's a really tough vote, this would have been an easy pass a few years back and I could see this going either way now, but for now I'd also like to request that you take another pass at improving some of the sounds and samples and see if you can't build a slightly more.. sophisticated blend of sounds. good luck with the rest of the vote, and also looking forward to hearing more of your work. NO(please resub!)
  9. I've had a finished track for probably a year and a half now. it's sounds kinda old now, though it was one of my finest mixes at the time when I finished it. *sigh* I know there are at least a couple more finished tracks, but no details beyond that.
  10. wow, I really really like this. still even manages to keep the vibe of the FF12 atmosphere in-tact while working with a kinda oddball style like this. not much to say, this is really unique, the arrangement is solid, I like it a lot. good job. YES
  11. there are definitely some weird bits regarding the timing, kinda just feels like you couldn't keep a steady tempo. I thought they sounded more concentrated to certain parts of the song, as most of it sounded fine to me. but some of those melodic sections where you're kinda riffing had some odd moments. I dunno, that aside, I also feel this wasn't the strongest piano mix you've subbed, but I enjoyed it overall. YES
  12. listening to this having not heard the last version since I judged it, which I don't quite recall, but it looks like I liked it. I thought this was pretty well done anyway, I think NO-ing this one right now is a little harsh, and though I can see where the crits are coming from, the arrangement is super-creative and I personally liked the quirky/chaotic soundscapes a lot, no complaints with the general sound/aesthetic of the piece YES
  13. the part in Fallout 3 where you have to go to that weird black and white town from the past and punch little kids in the face and kill that lady with a chandelier. I didn't like that. I have a hard time keeping focused with most games these days but I gave up on Fallout completely after about an hour of that.
  14. I will be in attendance this year. FOR SERIOUS. also willing to go in on a group reg if we can get enough people.
  15. http://halc.bandcamp.com/album/bit-tape-1 "Last night at approximately 2:30am, I woke up from a dream that felt so real. it had to be a premonition. Me, Drake, and the T-Mobile girl were playing baccarat on a private jet. Ann Perkins walks up to me and says, "Tommy, tomorrow night, I'm taking you back". Then Blue Ivy Carter high-fived me and gave me forty million dollars. It was all so real." - T. Haverford
  16. jeez, this is so cool. never seen anything like it. thanks for sharing.
  17. if it comes with a remake of waterworld, I'm sold.
  18. ooh, must have missed this one when it was on the panel. damn fine work here.
  19. wasn't loving the tone of that low rhodes or whatever it is playing the bassline, I thought it was a little too fuzzy and overexposed even granted the intentionally fuzzy style. it felt much more well balanced once the lead guitar finally dropped in though- either that or I just stopped noticing it. in agreement with the soundscape being thin at times, but overall the mixing got the job done, and I loved every bit of the arrangement. solid work here, hope to hear more from you soon! YES
  20. ha, there's a trumpet part in this that makes me think of the AVGN theme ("take a diarrhea dump in my eaaaaaar") which definitely enhances the experience for me. ;D really solid mix, and a damn fine collab. nice work, guys. :nicework::nicework: YES
  21. SOLID. yeah, this is pretty darn cool, definitely a unique take on the theme. personally I think the rapping should have started earlier, but I know you wanted to give that lead melody some limelight, which works. just seemed a little awkward to have that big melodic break after the bit of vox in the intro. good stuff though overall, and great to hear more new stuff from ya. YES
  22. unfortunately I'm gonna have to mirror the other votes here.. I absolutely love the composition, it's quite beautiful, but I'm also not hearing enough distinct source usage here, although the way it was used (when it was) was extremely tactful and intimate imo. I thought I was hearing some little allusions to other Sonic melodies, but that could be my mind running wild on me as I can't place my finger on any. as Larry said, if this can be reworked somehow to be more grounded in the theme, then I'd love to see this passed, but otherwise I will greatly look forward to your next submission. NO
  23. wow, I must have never listened to the Saturn version of the soundtrack at all, didn't know it had music like this in it. wouldn't expect orchestral in an old-school sonic game, but based on the composition and being familiar with the stage from the Genesis version of the game, I can see how it would work. very interesting. as for the mix, not a lot to add to what the other J's have said. this is a really solid arrangement, and some of your best production work yet. I expect some truly beastly tunes from you in the future. YES
  24. not a lot to say. I enjoyed the song, the chorus-y bit at 1:56 was really epic. great first mix, and looking forward to hearing more from you. YES
