  1. great intro, loved the juxtaposition of the guitar and organ. I think the mixing leaves a little something to be desired, but I'd be mighty impressed to hear anything of this quality from a newcomer; pretty sure I'd pass it wholeheartedly. arrangement can get a little chaotic as mentioned in the first half, but I rather enjoyed the whole thing m'self. nice integration of the ethnic instruments. YES
  2. Good sentiments, this is definitely solid for a first remix. the arrangement itself while straightforward has some nice understated variations and such going for it. Some of the juxtapositions later in the track of the various melodies can get a little awkward, probably a few clashing notes in there, otherwise not bad though. Gonna have to agree that the production is where this is taking a hit right now. the piano as mentioned is a little plinky and stiffly sequenced. The kick and snare were also a bit weak, didn't quite have the kinda thud and snap you want In a dnb track. Dug that pluck synth though, was a nice, effective choice. Some hits, some misses, overall not bad. Hopefully these critiques will provide helpful. you seem to have a grip on using your DAW, now it's just about training your ears for quality production and exploring that source material a little more deeply. I'd consider hitting up our workshop forum as well, if you haven't. Best of luck! NO(resub)
  3. really loved the sounds at play here, similar timbres to the original, but much higher quality. this has got a ton of personality but Im (very unfortunately) going to have to concur with Emu, this is really walking a fine line between arrangement and cover territory, and I think for OCR consideration we need to see a little more interpretation or integration of your own material. I'd be happy to pass it if it weren't for the conservative nature of the piece.. Dont let the rejection get you down, you've got some killer chops; really hope to hear more remixes or a resub from you sometime. NO(resub)
  4. awesome! not enough remixes of this theme in the world.. and this is an awesome and quite nostalgic take on it. loved the chip sounds, definitely anamana-esque. Totally down with this, cool stuff. YES
  5. excellent piano tone, wasn't as bothered by the reverb personally, but I agree that it is a bit heavy. excellent tone and sequencing. gonna echo Shariq here, the arrangement isn't too crazy or interpretive, but a nice adaptation with plenty of flourish, and the performance is beautiful. Nice work. YES

  8. http://halc.bandcamp.com/album/legitimacy Hey guys! So I've finally made my first real chip album! All tracks recorded from a single DMG Game Boy, composed in midi using trash80's awesome mGB interface. Next stop, LSDJ. ;D Free/pay-whatever on bandcamp, as usual. All support greatly appreciated! Enjoy!
  9. can't get enough of that opening track. so freaking good.
  10. Indeed. yeah, the new ones are beautiful. I'd highly recommend going for the big one over the Mikro, getting a Mikro will just make you want to get the big boy that much more. On a budget though, the Mikro is still a game changing investment.
  11. ah cool, I remember hearing this one way back when it was first finished. definitely a pretty darn conservative piece starting off, but it really spreads its wings a bit as the song develops, and there were a lot of really nice embellishments throughout. not to mention some damn fine performances by both M.K. and Mr. Wise. highly enjoyable. YES
  12. a little rough around the edges in the production realm I suppose, but that's part of Zyko's charm. the piano as Justin mentioned was just luscious and beautiful. the lead guitar tuning didn't bug me, however there was this nasal quality about the EQ that I didn't love, and some of the timings felt a little looser than they should have been, but overall this is a pretty easy pass for me. quite a lovely arrangement. YES
  13. Hey guys! I'm posting this on behalf of my buddy Miearth, aka Insixfour here at OCR and on The Sound of Speed. He just released his second album of 2012, "Evelation", 10 tracks of various electronic styles, with an enigmatic yet understated vibe. It's available for free or pay-what-you-want on his Bandcamp page. Please check it out, and feel free to leave a comment here or at the label page (as this is my new netlabel, 9-bit Records' second release), or hit him up/follow him on facebook! http://3sdmusic.bandcamp.com/album/evelation http://9bitrecords.com/releases/evelation/
  14. was kinda disappointed when that bass at the beginning dropped out right at the first impact. would love to hear that carry on, maybe just tone it back a bit, and do more with the filter. That bass has a really great, bouncy tone that's begging for some more sweep/LFO. The lead synths are really vanilla and just kinda cheesy, and the bit with the bells at the end could have been less stiff, more human sounding. overall I think this makes it just over the bar, but an edit on those synths might be for the best, and could even see them drop some NO's despite the strengths of this mix. your production is definitely reaching a point where your sounding pretty consistently, so props on that and keep up the good work and improvement. YES
  15. fucking awesome integration/melding of the sources. Would work great as a Planet Wisp 'Bad Future' theme. ;D good stuff, an easy pass for me. YES
  16. ah yes, glad this one came back, I truly wanted to pass it last time. still a pretty conservative take on the theme, but the extra work that's gone into the arrangement this time around makes it a winner. really loving your work, as always. YES
  17. I think by separate elements he means Kontakt, Massive, Reaktor etc, not the Komplete Elements product. but yeah, those will most definitely go on sale- last Black Friday I bought Massive at half price ($100), then cross graded or whatever to Komplete during the spring sale for 299. So all said and done I ended up spending $400 for the standard version of Komplete.
  18. They will have a sale, that much I can guarantee. I got Komplete 8 for $299 last spring. Granted that update was only available to owners of standalone NI products, I'm pretty sure they'll have a good deal this Black Friday. I also get the feeling Komplete 9 isn't too far off, and they also like to have big sales before the next version of each product comes out. Haven't personally played with the extras that come with Ultimate (aside from Razor) but I don't think there's much in there to justify 2x the price.. just a bunch of extra Kontakt patches and some mixing plugins which are probably solid, but not entirely necessary/worth the extra $$$.
  19. heh, I was waiting for a few votes to drop on this and see what people thought of the sampling. I have to agree that it was pretty tasteful. I think overall the track is a bit repetitive (even Ben's bassline - I get the feeling that he made his entire contribution to this track in a half hour ((not that that's a bad thing))), and personally I think the mastering is kinda abrasive, it's one of those few tracks that I feel the need to turn my volume down. overall though, I'm down with this, and glad to see you submitting more to OCR. huge props on the remix album as well, there were some killer tracks on there (some probably also applicable to OCR) that really expanded on this in some unique, and in some cases pretty intensive ways. YES
  20. gonna go ahead and flip my vote for the sake of closing this out, as you've gotten a lot of good criticism to work with here, and after a fresh listen I'm inclined to agree with most of what was posted. I do still think this is a solid track though, and with a bit more polish I'll be happy to pass it on. NO(resub)
  21. I was digging this the first time around, but this new version is definitely sounding a lot more polished. really glad now that this was reworked a bit. awesome stuff, super creative as per your usual. and maybe I'm tripping, but there are some pretty subtle Sonic references all over this thing right? I thought it was me until the carnival night riff caught me near the end of the song. I'm gonna have to listen to this one some more. YES
  22. the remixes on here are great. If you enjoyed the original album, you should definitely check it out. tracks 1 and 4 in particular take the source material in a very interesting new direction.
  23. Nope, not exclusively. It's pretty open-ended, as long as chiptunes or 16-bit style sounds are involved. T-minus 3 hours until launch! Please join us at 10pm EST for the listening/release party!
