  1. Episode 53 - Brian Fortress and the Castle of Bambi features the return of Sivak, creator of Battle Kid and the Fortress of Peril. We grill him on what Battle Kid 2 will contain, amongst other things, including Bambis pooping Bambis.

Episode 54 - Rock on Jimmy, SHIT features Grant Kirkhope, the composer of Goldeneye 007, Banjo Kazooie, Donkey Kong 64, Grabbed by the Ghoulies, and more! We chat with him about working for Rare, making music as VG composer, and what it is like to speak the Queen's English.

  2. Thats quite a sad and narrow view of OCR :(

Calling us "douchebags" and "****ing elitists" and expecting us to listen to your music afterwards isn't a good way to present yourself. I'm inclined to just not bother listening to it because you're showing 0 respect for a site that frankly, only wants to see you improve as an artist. If you can't take constructive criticism, or appreciate that your music doesn't fit the standards (which doesn't mean its bad by any means) then don't take offense at the fact.

Regarding the 3 month wait, thats because OCR gets ALOT of submissions, and there is a waiting list. Please don't bash ocremix because your mix doesn't get on the site, or because of impatience, its distasteful, and disrespectful.

Now for your remix - Its actually very good. I enjoyed it. A little heavy on the compression but very good production overall. The arrangement wouldn't make it on ocr (Its boarderlining on source usuage from what I can tell, and you need more variation on your mix overall) however, the remix is good stuff, would sound great in a club I expect.

What he said. Exactly how I feel.

  3. Emu, why did you not announce I had given you a substantial WIP? It's at like 1:30 now. Why would you neglect that? Why did I not get my name in funny colours like everyone else? Why?

    WHY?

It's 1:30 now? You never send anything to me! Just like you constantly neglect to send child support for our son :-( I don't want to make a buncha drama now, because we're currently below the line, but YOU NEVER CALL ANYMORE! I'm worried what the world will be like for our son growing up without his fancy-haired mother... How hard is it to just PRETEND that you care about keeping this family together!?!?!

    ...

    I miss you...

MOMMY! DADDY! STOP FIGHTING! You're tearing us apart!

  4. Anyone else here play the relatively recent "Clive Barker's 'Jericho'", for PS3? That game was insanely intense, and had some crazy scary moments even by grown-up standards. I loved it. :)

I thought I was the only person who enjoyed Jericho! I know it got slammed for many reasons, a lot of them valid, but I'm a huge Clive Barker fan and the action was pretty damn good. Story wasn't super-horrendous either, and the monsters for quite horrific.

Majestic fuckbeans, the Fatal Frame series is scary. Take everything errie about Silent Hill (a series which I also love), add in Japanese folklore and ghost stories, remove weapons from the game, and make the battle mechanic as follows: your only method of attack is a camera, the only way you do damage is taking a picture, and you only do the most damage if you let the ghost get UNSPEAKABLE CLOSE UP AND PERSONAL. This is, by far, the greatest implementation of risk-and-reward in a battle system I've ever seen. If you can, start with the first game, but even if you can't find it, do not skip out on FF2: Crimson Butterfly. There are some unspeakable things in that game.

I'm echoing Fatal Frame, Penumbra, Condemned, Dead Space, Silent Hill, and Eternal Darkness. Also throwing Doom 3 into the ring, along with:

    * Call of Cthulhu (if just for the chase scene, the whole game is quite good though)

    * I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream (even if you don't play it, watch a playthrough: seriously disturbing and fucked up)

    * Cryostasis

I'm sure I've got more, but I can't think of them right now.

  5. I'm interested in the following:

    1) How it is going to tie in with the Half-Life storyline (especially consideirng the cliffhanger at the end of HL2:E2, and the fact that Gabe Newell has seemingly forgotten that he has another Episode in the series to make for the last...what, four years?)

    2) The co-op mode

    3) If they're going to try to top "Still Alive". I don't think any song can do better than that, so any attempt will probably be done in vain. I could be wrong, though.

    4) If this is the game where Chell gets nekkid.

  6. It's like covering yourself in raw meat and prancing around a hungry bear.

Suddenly, this thread just became increasingly relevant to my interests. I didn't like the sequel though, covering yourself in bacon and working the local kennel.

About the TF2 dislike: I played TFC a lot when I was younger, and it was a good, fast-paced, easy-to-pick-up game. Now, whenever I go into a TF2 server, I get yelled at for not doing my role. I'm all for teamwork, but it is incredibly discouraging to people who don't know the intricacies about each and every move, what every friggin' hat does, how to do weapons upgrades, etc. Yes, TFC had its fair share of abusers (the whole grenade jumping thing really pissed me off), and one thing I will give TF2 is that it has loads of personality, but I liken the experience of playing TF2 as a n00b to what I hear playing HoN as a n00b is like: it just isn't fun whatsoever.

And whoever mentioned Soul Calibur 3 reminded me of how much of a disappointment that game was! For me, it all came down to one thing: Chronicles of the Sword. Ho-ly-shit, did that game mode PISS ME OFF. At first I was all "oh, cool! It's like half board game, half tactics game, where the outcome of it is also based on SC fights!" But then the shit truly hit the fan when I spent five hours trying to beat the first boss. That game was rage-inducing.

    a few more:

    Earthworm Jim 3d

    ExtremeG 3

    Twisted Metal 3

    Final Fight: Streetwise

  7. I think after this project I'll never want to touch the MMX series again. So. Many. Tracks.

Well, all besides a rousing broadway-style musical about the lost love interest between Mega Man and Zero, as well as the story about what Zero is fighting foooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooor. :nicework:

  8. Deus ex: Invisible War

    Sonic 4

    Killer instinct gold

    Any mortal kombat after mk4

    Final fantasy tactics advance

    Team fortress 2

Also, I count sonic spinball as a spinoff (lololol) instead of being part of the series proper.

Edit: sorry Robbie, it just was so pale, dull, and broken compared to the original. I felt no connection to the characters, nor had any interest in the story. Also, character models and animations were totally lulz

  9. I am the mastermind behind this OCAD minecraft menace, and it looks as though my plan to start forum drama in an attempt to artificially inflate forum post counts and waste everyone's precious time reading emotion-filled angst has succeeded beyond my wildest dreams! HUZZAH!

But no, seriously, I feel like I just wasted 10 minutes of my life reading rampant paranoia and pointless hate against people who have any association, tenuous or strong, with OverClocked After Dark. The OCAD folks who were regulars on the OCAD server (which was objected against by some because this one already existed) moved over to OCR in the mean-time as the OCAD machine fizzled and broke. I've been waiting for the new parts since Sunday: I spent considerable funds out of my OWN POCKET to get that other server up and running again. In that time, I find out that my brethren have been put up on a witch trial for one person's n00bish mistake. Anyone who knows Deven knows he can be without a brain sometimes, but it's not rocket science: it is a game. No one's lives are at stake in this. And that never faults his integrity or his character, merely his grasp of game rules at times. And internets do cut out at times, even during the show, where words get lost.

You can always give more fucking materials. It's not like anyone was spawn-killing.

The OCAD Minecraft Server is back up and running, so I'm sure they'll migrate back there at some point. This has been, at the very least, and interesting exposure as to the administration of the OCR Minecraft Server.

  10. Also, time spent per minute of track is relative; you will spend the most effort on a particular track and nobody will like it, and you'll spend the least amount of time on a track and it will be the greatest hit of the album.

    my 2¢

Absolute truest thing ever. No way to predict this kind of thing.

Xenon's right about not starting too high, but also not selling yourself short. Do you know how much total music they're expecting out of you?

  11. I have such fond memories of this game, being a Saturn kid and all. I remember only correctly doing the Akuma code ONCE out of probably a thousand tries, so I am very familiar with this theme.

Translating to a guitar-based mix is a great choice, however, there are a number of things you should address regardless of whether or not you would want this as a sub-worthy song:

    1) The mix kinda...just...starts. It is actually kind of jolting. Even if you want the rock right in your face immediately, you need to give the listeners a chance to get used to the volume level and somewhat brace for impact. Starting with some flashy drums for a measure or half a measure should do the trick, and allow for the timing of the first guitars to not seem so sudden. It would probably do well considering the original starts with drums, just take that and basically make it more elaborate and rocky then BAM, guitars just happened.

    2) The mix sounds too close to the original as of right now. It has pretty much the same feel, except for the guitars and the new section you added. The new section, while nice, needs to be a bit more elaborate.

    3) Drums need some major work. There's practically zero transition from section A to section B and back. Furthermore, the sound could be improved with either a new kit or more selective processing on each drum.

    4) Is your current arrangement live guitars or sampled? The timing offsets tell me they're live but copiously repeated. If they're live, consider doing multiple takes of the same sections so that things don't sound as static. If they're not live, then I would HIGHLY recommend getting a live guitarist for this.

    5) If you want your arrangement to become more sub-worthy, I would think that another original section where you change the basic chord structure would be good, happening after the second B section. Section C, as we'll call it, could act like a bridge and differentiate the arrangement considerably. Right now, I would think your fully fleshed-out arrangement could be something like this:

Intro -> Section A -> Section B -> Section A with solo wankery integrating melodies from various COTA stages -> Section B with solo wankery integrating melodies from various COTA stages -> Section C (Bridge) -> Breakdown and Buildup -> Section A -> Ending

Those solo wankery areas would be a perfect spot to put solos that include integration of other areas of the soundtrack, making things both more original AND more source-referenced at the same time

    6) Can't tell with my current headphones but what are you using for bass?

    7) We can talk about overall production after your arrangement quirks have been worked out. :D

Don't be discouraged: I listed a lot that can be improved and changed but you have a solid foundation and picked a great sourcetune. Excited to hear where you can take this.

  12. Ouch! Really sorry to hear the Blackjack didn't work out for you. :(

Speaking now, I still have the Focusrite Saffire 6 USB and it is as solid as the day I bought it. It is now on two powered monitors that sound great, so my vouching for that device is definitely valid. However, for anyone considering ANY USB devices, I highly encourage you to check here before you do:

    http://raincomputers.com/windows-watch/

This is a list of many professional-grade audio interfaces, along with their current driver support. It also lists many VSTs and plugins. Strange, though, that here it lists the Mackie Onyx series as having full support. The USB 1.1-issue I can't speak for, but the device just literally refused to load in ASIO mode with the vanilla Blackjack driver?

Edit: Just saw the thread on the Mackie support boards that you actually commented on. I went googling to see if the issue was prevalent anywhere else. That is a low-down, dirty shame that they have basically admited that their Windows 7 x64 driver doesn't work and yet they refuse to remove the Windows 7 x64 listing from the supported operating systems list. :(

  13. The answer as to why this even exists is deceptively simple: business.

Look at how much money the Disney tween-aged musicians pull in? There are millions and millions of children with parents who have disposable income. These are the parents that will buy stuff to make their child happy, and many parents blindly assume that they can leave the Disney channel on and have their child zone out to quality programming without having to worry about inappropriate words or subject matter coming on. These kids aspire towards stars that are their age or close to it, and any relative perspective on talent is negated by supreme overproduction to make it as enjoyable and catchy as possible.

I took a look at Ark Music Factory's other artists. Notice a pattern there? All tweens or teens, all females (at least on the first page), and all seemingly unoffensive. Fastest way to make a quick buck is pick a random relatively-not-unattractive and/or unassuming-looking girl (I shudder at what pedos must think looking at a page like that. *shudder* no bueno), make a song about something that has relevance to what kids in middle school and high school go through, autotune the fuck out of it since the majority of these people can't sing, produce it to a mirror shine, then push it out and sell it. Seriously, give a producer a couple hours or so and they can make songs like this. Rama even proved it in a lulz-y kind of way. And even if the video is notoriously bad, look at how many views, tweets, facebook posts, and general media attention it has gotten. There is no such thing as bad publicity, because all publicity is attention. This song has likely gotten more airtime than all OC ReMixes combined.

Just to put it into perspective, Rebecca Black's official Friday video right now has 16,457,921 views on youtube. That's the equivalent of a 16x platinum single if it were actual song sales.

  14. I read all those reports in the link about how this is different from Chernobyl. I feel pretty safe. Perhaps my mom is just panicking for my safety.

That's what mothers do, sir. Honestly, at this point, the more people that leave the country that could potentially help in the current rescue/rebuild environment, the longer it is going to take to get things back on their feet. Obviously, if there's the threat of another sure-fire disaster then people should evacuate, but as long as that nuclear reactor remains relatively safe, the focus should be on the reconstruction efforts.

  15. So, now that the whole OCAD server group of people are on the OCR server...

Nope, I'm not. At least, not yet. I don't really have the inclination to play on this one just yet, however would like to be whitelisted just-in-case. MC name is Level99. I has a skin that looks like I'm wearing an OCR shirt.
