Very awesome and very heavy. You're a monster. I like those synths at 0:20. They remind me of Cradle of Filth.

I'd go for something like this. It's got two mic pres and comes with Cubase LE. You just plug in and go. And a Shure SM57 or an Audix i5 would be your best bets for a dynamic mic, but don't forget about the condensers. The $200 Studio Projects C1 would be perfect for acoustic guitars and vocals and even sound great on guitar amps.

You have to have your amp up pretty loud to get some good feedback. That or have some pretty high output pickups. Alot of gain alone won't do it.

Yes, I wanted to crossfade between two samples, one without vibrato and one with. I figured out how to do it, but the result was not what I was hoping for. As I'm moving the mod wheel up, I can hear both samples playing at the same time and it creates a kind of 'chorus' efect that I don't like.

I've been trying to figure out how to crossfade between articulations, mainly non-vibrato and vibrato, using the mod controller and I just can't find a way. Can anyone shed some light on this predicament?

Make sure you use your arm and not your fingers. What I mean is, instead of just pushing up and pulling down on a string with your fingers(like in string bends), twist your arm to do it. It's kind of hard to explain so I'd check youtube.com for some videos. There's one that Satch made that explained it very well. Good luck.

Most of Vai's hand movements are just there to look cool. He's said that himself. He tries to make things look more complicated/entertaining than they really are.

Behringer mics aren't really good. I suggest saving money for a while. $200 will get you a Studio Projects C-1, which is an awesome mic. Alot of pro studios have switched to using the C-1 over mics that cost as much as ten times the price. I have two of them myself and have never been happier. If you can get $300, get a Rode NT2A. This mic was called the "World's Best Studio Mic for 2006" by MIPA. I haven't bought one yet but I do hear great things about it.

Oh, and a coil-tap should work on any 4 conductor pickup if you wire it that way. Plenty of wiring diagrams to be found in the internet for that.

A limiter will kill the cliping. You can go as loud as you want and never go above 0db. As far as the buzzing goes, maybe you're running low on resouces/ram. Is the fuzz still there when you export?

Evo Clip Signal: Ibanez Jem with DiMarzio Evolution pickups > Boss Keeley Ultra DS-1 Distortion > Ibanez AD-9 Analog Delay > Mesa Lonestar Head, Clean Channel > Mesa Standard Rectifier 4x12 Cabinet > Audix i5 (off axis) and Studio Projects C-1 (on axis) and I added some Waves plate reverb in post. Snapple is right, though. Only Vai and Satch can sound like themselves, but their tones aren't too impossible to conjur up if you know their rigs well enough, which aren't too complex. Steve uses Jems with Evolutions and Breeds into a Bad Horsie Wah, a Keeley DS-1 (or a rare Japanese DS-1 from the 80s) into his signature Carvin Legacy amp. he also uses a Digitech Whammy, though I'm not sure if it's before the amp or in the effects loop. The effects he uses are quite pricey, though, especially the Evantide stuff. He controls everything from his Bradley switching system his tech set up, which is ridiculously expensive. Satch, on the other hand, has a much simpler setup. His signature JS guitars into the same DS-1 (Keeley or old Japanese) into his JSX amps. And I think he only uses a few pedals in the effects loops. Pretty simple. Alot of the time, Satch doesn't even use the distortion in his amp. He'll just his DS-1 into a clean amp, which is what I did for this clip. Have fun with your new guitar.

The favorite seems to be the EMG 81/85 active set for metal and they do sound killer, but you'd need to put a hole into your guitar for the battery case. If you don't want to do that, I would totally go for the Evolutions. I love them and they're great for metal. There's a new Evo2 bridge pickup that is more dynamic and cleans up easily. It doesn't have as high an output as the original, but it is a little more versatile.

The Ibanez Lo-Pro Edge stays in tune better than most fixed bridges I've played on.

First you need a decent sound card with 1/4" inputs. Then you can just plug right in. Alot of recording bassists bypass amps and just record direct for later processing.
