the original playstation had this sort of (varying amongst the games themselves) and the PS2 had a good amount of it too I mean unless I'm misunderstanding something here -

at that point you may as well hold ALT and left click all of them (which is what I did) -
Any media player worth its salt (like Media Player Classic hint hint) will load subtitle files automatically if they share the same filename as the target video file (excepting the extension) so you should have VIDEO_1.mkv and VIDEO_1.ass for it to work
