  1. Not much to add to Fishy's vote. The whole 'Insurance wait music' was a fun idea, but the arrangement just isn't up to our standards. Along with that the sounds are not the greatest, which is a secondary issue to the arrangement, but still important. Sorry, but this is a NO
  2. I had to think this one over for a while. It's very minimalist, which tends to lean towards repetition without much change. That being said, I still felt like I hear the main riff a few too many times. However, the complete change of style and background are a fresh approach and I think are done in a way that allows the melody to stay prominent and a good focus throughout. The soundscape is again minimal, but I think it achieves what you are going for, and does have that sort of "mystical from the days of yore" feel to it. There are some times when things feel a little mechanical, but again, that could be attributed to the style. It didn't personally bother me too much. Honestly, because there isn't too much expansion on the source melody, I could see the other judges going the other way with this, but I think this mix sets out what with a goal and succeeds in it. YES
  3. What is bothering me is that, whether you are intending it or not, you are making it seem that you are only going to put just as much effort in as is needed to get the album released on OCR. That just reads as bad taste. And what makes it worse is that now you are saying you won't even be the one doing the effort to make it passable, but are going to have other people put in all the hard work for you and mooch off their success. Seriously, you are losing opinion points here from me pretty badly.

ReMixer name: Mahrellon Real Name: Andreas Flodman E-mail: Mahrellon@gmail.com or Andreas_flodman@netatonce.net Website: None Userid: 34595 Game: Zelda 3 - A link to the past Song name: Dark world theme Original song: Original Composer: Koji Kondo Comments: I have always been a fan of the Zelda series and the music and I've always wanted to make a remix of at least one Zelda song just for fun. How ever, I had no plans at all about making a remix of the Dark Overworld theme from Zelda 3 until a friend of mine sort of "dared me" into remixing one of the songs I didn't consider to be my favorite so I chose this song and this is the resault. I got the inspiration for the actual sound from trying to learn how to play the Gerudo Song from Zelda Oot and thought that the Dark Overworld theme would sound sweet if I put some guitars in it. Well, hope you guys enjoy! Oh, and please let me know if there's anything else needed to submitt songs. It's my first time =) ----------------------------------------------- I love this arrangement. I think you did a great job of bringing out a lot of emotion from the original, and there is definitely a lot of detail that really makes this shine. I wish there was a little bit more dynamic range, because some spots I think could have been a little more bombastic to make a better contrast with the more thoughtful sections. I think for what you did with them, the sounds are good, but this would sound a lot better if there were better samples. They aren't horrible by any means, but they aren't great either. It's a bit unfortunate that the arrangement is being held back by the sounds, but that happens sometimes. The string sounds are what bother me the most, although there are some other sounds, like the horn that comes in later, that also are to blame. Overall, love it. YES

It sat in our iTunes since then untouched after our initial remix. It was terrible. So a few months ago we decided to touch up our old remixes and use what we've learned since then to make them better. This is what we came up with. The first one we did was a hard rock remix, and we thought it'd be kinda neat to add a hip-hop type element to it to make it stand out. Hope you guys enjoy it, and expect to hear more from us as we've got a whole lot lined up to send in. ------------------------------ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVU9un_8RcA I like some of the arrangement ideas that you have. The opening I thought worked particularly well, being a lot more laid back. After that, however, you seemed to almost lose steam. I personally don't think the combination of the synth you have for the melody and the overly crunchy bass is working as well as it could, but that might be due to the production issues. I'd like to hear some more variation in the instrument choices. The addition of the guitar was nice, but the transition itself was a little strange. I was disappointed when the source started to repeat almost verbatim to what it did the first time. I'd like to have heard more variation in the melody at that point into the guitar solo, and less going on during the solo itself; it gets a bit cluttered. I like how you handled the drums throughout, which was a nice plus. 0:23 hits you like a blow. Things are way loud and overcompressed from then on to the end of the song. You really need cut back on that and taper off the levels to get a good balance here. On a similar note, the guitar comes in pretty loud over everything else, and gets overpowering. I think the production is the big issue that you need to tackle first, but there is some work needed on the arrangement side of things as well. Please make use of our WIP boards to get this one cleaned up, and I'd like to hear it again. NO (resubmit)

I love these games. Space quest three is one of my favorite of the series, and really, I think the introduction song is catchy, but doesn't catch the eerie danger that Roger really puts himself into. And, even though Roger is constantly the source of ridicule, particularly from the narrator, he is a hero, albeit a klutz. Anyway, the original is pretty good, and I hope my more dissonant approach does the game justice. This mix was created by FL-Studio. Defiance ----------------------- I'm hearing a decent amount of arrangement, in the style change, some elongation of phrases, and rhythmic changes. I generally like what you've done, although the source itself starts to wear thin on me after a while. No real issues on that aspect. You have the melody line panned a little right, which is somewhat strange. Keep the melody line in the center, and have some subtle panning reserved for background parts. I've got to say, though, that the sounds themselves are just too lo-fi for me. I could imagine this in a PS1 game easily, which isn't really at a level that is good for OCR. The synths are pretty generic, and honestly I think they are holding back the piece from it's potential. I'd love to hear you experiment with some other sounds to add some more life to this. I think the arrangement is doing alright, but the sound quality is just not at a high enough level. NO (resubmit)
  7. Game: UT2004 Song: Level 8 Additional info: The song level 8 does not have any other name other than level 8 according to sources. It was made by Starsky Partridge according to wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unreal_Tournament_soundtracks) Name Of Remix: Neptarium Link to original song: [Youtube Link Below] Link to remix: Comments: I was inspired by my friend who loves this song, so I decided to remix it to see what he'd think of it. I am also inspired by Justice as you can probably hear (that is if you've heard of them). In AuxiliaryInput we're two, but I (Elias) composed the song while Matthew (the other guy in AuxiliaryInput) mastered and fixed it it up a bit. The song was 99% made using Record with Reason 4 only, I had to use some other program to time stretch the reverb ending there. I really love making distorted guitar like sounds, so the guitar lead and all that is all synthesized. I am also a fan of analog tape sound so I tried to make it sound a bit old, but not too old. Contact Info: Remixer Name: AuxiliaryInput Real Name: Elias Hogstvedt Email: sboyto@gmail.com Website: none ForumID: 22460 We are two in AuxiliaryInput, Elias Hogstvedt (the sender of this email) and Matthew Clifton. Although I composed the song, Matthew mastered and mixed it, he also deserves a lot of credit. I'm sorry if the commentary isn't long enough, I have a huge problem with writing biographies and the like for some reason. ----------------------- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tcVDA6a9I4 I am tentative to vote on this one simply due to the fact that the original track is strictly ambient, and the mix, while different, doesn't really do that much more to it. Thinking it through, though, I think the fact that there is some expansion and a lot of additions, plus the changes in the synths that give it a grittier feel is enough to put this one into the (Vote changed below) category. I could honestly see this going either way.
  8. While the 'bar' is pretty much even throughout, there is a tendency to be a little more lenient towards live performances such as a jazz ensemble or an orchestra. You simply cannot have everyone who can play at the same super-high level as we can expect from say a single guitarist.
  9. This might become one of my top favorite Zelda remixes ever. The vocals and story telling are fantastic, and it's only enhanced by the guitar performance. Awesome work.

Not related to Lady Gaga ----------------------------- - SMS version (starts around 0:25) - PS2 remake version (Starts around 1:04)While there isn't much changed around melodically, there does seem to be a decent amount of work put into the backing and sounds to make this texturally different from the original. That along with the mood change from the original is a nice touch. I would have liked to see a little more changes in the melody and structure, especially when the song pretty much repeats the second time through. That is one of the big issues I had with this mix. There needs to be something more than just a repeat for the second half of the song! I've got to be honest, most of the sounds were not really working for me. Overall this sounds like it is about a PS2 era piece, which really isn't up to the production standards. The lead sound is especially bothering me. I feel like it isn't carrying the power that it needs. As with the arrangement, this needs some definite work on the production and some improvement on the sounds for it to work. This needs a fair bit of work, but I can see that there was some effort put into it. Keep working on it, and use our WIP boards to get some good feedback! NO
  13. Name: Trevor Burch ReMixer Name: Vibratissimo email: vibratissimo@gmail.com userID#: 26877 Game: Donkey Kong 64 Song Mixed: Angry Aztec Hello again, I've sat on this for quite a while now; I believe that I finished this mix soon before the evaluation of my last work (DKR) was posted...back in November or something O.o Although I did somehow end up choosing another Dave Wise track that dabbles in Middle Eastern styles, my new submission, entitled "Sultan's Pride (Dance of Dubai)," is styled much differently and is chock-full of some killer source material and variety, including some subtle-but-effective mixed meter and an outro that was DEFINITELY NOT inspired by Tunak Tunak Tun I hope that you all will enjoy it! Musically, Trevor aka Vibratissimo ---------------------------------------- What I like about this arrangement is that it expands on the original while still keeping that "Aztec" feel. The structure has a few changes, but the melodies themselves aren't too different from the original. What really helps this track are all the little additions that really fill out the soundscape and pull everything together. The transitions work very well, and my favorite part is the mixed meter section right at the end. The sounds aren't the greatest, especially the strings, but I think they are treated well and used so that there aren't many exposed weaknesses. There were a few sections that felt just a bit crowded, but not to a point where it was a real distraction. Overall I think this gets the job done. YES
  14. remixer name: jmr remix title: Late Snows of Winter game: Hero's Quest: So You Want To Be A Hero (re-released as Quest For Glory: So You Want To Be A Hero) song: The Magic Meadow (track 17 on the Sierra Soundtrack Collection: http://vgmdb.net/album/2241) 1989 version source link (youtube): 1994 re-release version source link: http://www.markseibert.com/Sierra%20-%20The%20Magic%20Medow.mp3 Like my last submission, this remix has it's origins in a compo; in this case FBRC2008 (which makes it just about a year older than my SMG remix). I intended to revise and submit this track for quite some time, and did a bit a work on it in early 2009. It ended up being back-burnered for some time until the point where I forgot about it and, uh, 'misplaced' the project file... d'oh! Fast forward a full year... I was digging through some old backup discs not long ago and was pleasantly surprised to find a fairly recent revision of the song, sans the live guitar elements (which was not a huge loss; my original takes were pretty horrible). Long story short: I re-recorded the required parts and overhauled the majority of the sequenced parts, resulting in this (much-improved) version. Did I mention that I've never even played the game? Enjoy! -Jeff -------------------------- I love how personal the guitar sounds in this, combined with the intimate source. I was really feeling the arrangement throughout. Arrangement-wise the only thing I wasn't feeling was the entrance of the xylophone, which was a bit sudden. Once it settled in I started to get a Lufia-vibe, which was a little weird, but also cool. The strings and snare sounded a little fake to me, and the bass drum seems muffled. Both of the issues are a little bit detracting, but I don't think it's a deal-breaker at all in this. I think that the arrangement makes up for the production issues and makes this a nice listen overall. YES EDIT: I listened again closely, and I am going to have to change my vote based on Jill's analysis. I think this is definitely a great candidate for a resubmission though, and I hope you get those fixes in! NO (resubmit please!)
  15. (Remix Info) Game - Chrono Cross Platform - Playstation Original Song - Dream Of The Shore Near Another World Original Song Link - Original Composer - Yasunori Mitsuda Comments - The original song is my favorite song from Chrono Cross, which is one of my favorite games of all time. With the remix i was trying to add a synthetic techno feel to the song while still maintaining its relaxing properties, the BPM was changed to 130 as well, although it is hard to notice. I have always wanted to remix this song after listening to Scott Peeples - Another Inspiration, he did it so well and i knew i did not want to do it the same way as he did so i did it with the techno feel i talked about. Also the gated pad does have some similarites (veeery slight) to Scott Peeples flute in his song, but i did not take it from him, that was from sheer coincidence, maybe because i listened to his version so much or maybe its something else, but regardless its different enough that its not noticable. I hope you guys enjoy my version of this beautiful song! This is my first submission ever btw, anywhere lol. I used Ableton as my DAW to make this song. What I'm hearing from this is a good foundation for a techno/trance mix. You've laid a solid groundwork of the melody and the bass, but I'm not hearing enough of your own interpretation on things. The melody remains pretty exact to the original, and although the structure is changed around a bit and there is an original section, the song feels very close to the source. This needs more variation and interpretation on the source to keep it interesting. On a similar note, it starts to get repetitive near the end, and could honestly be close to a minute shorter than it is with the same effect. The synths aren't really my style, although they work for the style you are going for. In particular, the background synth that comes in at 1:34 sounds very unclear which makes the rest of the sounds feel unclear as well. The drums also feel like they aren't carrying their weight. I'd like to see you experiment with some sounds to get some different textures in both synths and drums. This is going to take some work, but I think you have a start here that you can improve upon. NO
  16. Just going to echo the two gentlemen above. It's very recognizable as the source, and definitely personalized quite nicely. Fun track; YES

CONTACT INFORMATION ReMixer name: DeathOfRespect real name: Peter Hague email address: pete@peterhague.us website: www.peterhague.us user ID: http://ocremix.org/forums/member.php?u=33899 SUBMISSION INFORMATION name of game arranged: Mega Man 9 name of individual song arranged: Concrete Man Stage comments: Yes, I am fully aware of the insane number of Mega Man remix submissions! However, after hearing the great compositions from the newest 8-bit reincarnations of Mega Man 9 & 10, I really had to take a stab at one of them. I've been creating electronic music for about 7 years now and have been on a Drum and Bass kick lately (hence the bpm somewhere around 180). I hope you enjoy my Asphalt Remix! ---------------------------------- *Just a warning: Mix is very loud about 5 seconds in.* First off, this mis is LOUD. You could stand to pull the entire thing back to a more manageable level. While I am on that point, the high sounds are honestly a little screechy and not particularly enjoyable to listen. I don't think they should all be removed, but in some sections especially when there is already enough going on, they are just that top level that is whining above everything else. A lot of the mix feels very top-heavy, as well, which is a bit counter-intuitive to a DnB mix. I'd like the top end to be less, and more presence in the bottom end. The loops that you use are some good choices, but again, for a DnB mix, there needs to be more going on in terms of changes. Give the drums a reason to shine, as it were. I'd like the focus to have a good reason to be on the drums, and straight loops aren't doing it for me. The arrangement has a couple of issues as well: There are some extended sections that tend to stray a little to far away for the source for my liking. I didn't time stamp it, but it feels like it might be a little bit low for the source-original ratio. I'd like to hear more of all three different sections of the source in there, and right now I only was able to firmly hear two. The ending is also somewhat abrupt, and could stand to be a bit stronger. I think you have the base here for a mix, but it needs a decent amount of work. Try to focus on really making the DnB the focus of this track, and get some of those sound fixes in here. NO

I had to listen to all the melodies, then after stringing them all together, make a composite. Once that was finished it wasn't long before it fell into place. To be honest, most of my time went into thinking and not really mixing or writing anything at all. Regarding my choice of source material to remix, it was actually a request mix from a user on newgrounds. Personally, I love doing request's for the sheer fact that you learn and improve more, because in order to deliver (unless they request something you love and could remix a Million times) you have to look at the source and find qualities you like or don't like and then make decisions. Making those decisions unbiased will give you more freedom. Regarding the mix title, Butō (Butoh) is a performance art that has no bounds really, originated in Japan, and most of the time is accompanied by grotesque imagery. Because of the pace of the mix, I decided to call it "The Wingless Butō", Wingless hinting to Sephiroth. 19. Oh man, it's your birthday? Hope it's good!
  20. Going to have to agree with Larry. Right now this is sounding pretty dissonant, and frankly not good. Right now you have what sounds like the melody playing in one key signature, and the bass/background playing in another. Lining those up is going to be the first big step in this. It's a bit hard to comment on the rest of the arrangement, but at times it feels a little empty between sections. I know you're going for the 80's groove, but the transitions feel a little weak when you are only depending on that. The sounds are not the worst, but they are generic, and could use a little more filling out. It might not hurt to have some backing pads to fill in some sections, as well. Get those keys lined up, and keep working on this! NO (resubmit)
