  1. There are a lot of pretty cool ideas, and I like the overall hectic mood of the mix. There are two spots (1:31, 2:32) that I don't think everything is lining up correctly note-wise, and is sounding off. I'd take a look at those two sections again. Overall the sequencing is pretty mechanical, which is making a lot of this feel fake, and needs to be worked on. I also felt like sometimes you are using jazz rhythms, and then sometimes things are playing straight, which is a little confusing. Most of the sounds are pretty good, and I can tell you took some care on the different attacks. Arrangement is pretty much there minus a couple spots, and the production needs some work, but you've got a good start here. NO (resubmit)
  2. Super laid back, which fits both themes quite nicely. I like that this is a more personal mix than trying to go gung ho metal, or whatever. I think you have a niche in this style that works pretty well for you. Arrangement works nicely for me. I'm not too sold on the mellotron stuff (choir has a bit of a slow attack, strings are kinda meh to me), but it's no dealbreaker here. The drumwork throughout is pretty nice, and 1:33 sticks out as really working well, although the piano could be just a touch louder. I like it. YES
  3. I love how this starts out; you really nailed the soundscape and the arrangement is very nicely personalized. While it gets more liberal as the song goes, there is still plenty of returns to the melody to keep things on track. Other judges might call this one a little short on source, but I think it succeeds in keeping the source in mind. I will agree with Andrew that right now the leads are being a little crowded by the backing synths, and that overall they could be brought down a little. This could go into (conditional) territory for it, but I think it could also be ok as is. Really fun listen. YES
  4. I seriously wasn't expecting something like this from you, and it's a very welcome surprise. I love what you've done with the arrangement here, and you've really got a good handle on the sequencing here. I will admit the source usage can be a little light overall, which might be a concern with the other judges, but I think it comes back to where it needs to be often enough for me to pass this. Nice work. YES
  5. I had to think about this for a while, and after reading Andrew's vote, there are a lot of things I do agree with, but I think this is coming up just short for me. The arrangement sticks just a little too conservative, which wouldn't be a deal breaker on it's own, but combined with the sounds being average to good and a few of the mechanical sections I think it's just shy of where it needs to be. I'd like to see this revisited. NO (resubmit)
  6. Very little I can add to Andrew's vote here. I like your choice of instruments, and there are plenty of sections that sound pretty nice, but right now there are time where it's very hard to make out the source in this, or you go a long time without hearing an reference to it. Along with that is the spots that are a bit repetitive, which could be changed up or shortened up a bit. Again repeating Andrew that the production needs some work to clear everything up. You've got a start, but it needs some work. NO
  7. Definitely a cool style to take these sources to. I've heard similar stuff with other Mario themes, but it's nice to see some SMB2 love. The arrangement overall is pretty nice, although the beginning feels like it drags just a bit. What is bothering me is that there are a lot of instances where things aren't lining up very neatly, which makes the whole arrangement feel messy. One big example of this is when the piano solo comes in, it just isn't matching up with the other instruments time-wise. Also, the bass drum needs a little more punch. I'd love to see you go and clean this up. NO (resubmit)
  8. Proto, why must your mix names be so long? Whyyyyyy. Anyways, regardless of the title being longer than the mix itself, you've got a nice light jazzy take on these two themes. Everything's pretty chill, and you've done some nice arrangement, as you usually do. There's a good use of panning here which adds to the 'orchestra' feel. Sounds are obviously chip, but they are produced well, and the balance is good. I dig. YES
  9. Dear Judges, I am submitting for your consideration the following remix... Remixer name: Doc Nano Real name: Alex Johnson-Buck userid: 36369 Game arranged: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past Songs arranged: 1. Lost Woods 2. Title Theme (minor influence, mainly at the end)This is an impressionist piano piece, heavily influenced by works of Debussy and Ravel (especially Jeux d'Eau), some of my favorite piano music of all time. There are some playing mistakes, but this is the best I can do at present. The mix is meant to conjure up images of being lost in an eerie, enchanted forest. Around every turn there are leaves fluttering in the distance, constantly moving behind a pall of bluish mist, playing tricks on your eyes and ears. If you listen carefully, they almost seem to be laughing at you... I am not sure whether it meets OCR's standards of source usage, but here is a tally of what I feel to be source references in the piece. I understand your opinions of clear source usage may be different. 0:00-0:07 0:13-0:20 0:21-0:28 0:40-0:49 0:58-1:06 1:09-1:16 1:19-1:25 (harmony only) 1:29-1:35 1:39-1:44 (harmony only) 1:47-1:58 2:04-2:13 2:14-2:22 (harmony only) 2:28-2:38 Total: 81/163 seconds=49.7% (harmony only parts excluded) 100/163 seconds=61.3% (harmony only parts included) Thanks for considering my mix, Alex (Doc Nano) ---------------------
  10. Hi, I was told about OCRemix from a few comments on my YT channel, so I decided to submit one of my recent arrangements. Contact Info "Kiamet" 42377 Casey Ormond Game: Seiken Densetsu 3 Title: "Starlight Festival" Original Track: "Powell" I was inspired by the latin piano arrangement of Vamo Alla Flamenco on the FFIX PC, as well as the piano duets of Astor Piazzolla. I also really wanted to arrange something by Hiroki Kikuta, one of my favourite game composers. Thanks! Kiamet ---------------------
  11. Ok so following my original submission, (which was judged here: http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=31706) I've gone back to give this one more care and attention. Your ReMixer name - Anti-Syne Your real name- Jack Lewis Your userid - 31863 Submission Information Name of game(s) arranged - FF8 Name of individual song(s) 'The Stage is Set' and 'Force Your Way' Your own comments about the mix, for example the inspiration behind it, how it was made, etc. Ok, so with this resubmission my main aim was to add variety of texture, this new version is aimed to 'change gear' at a few different points, so hopefully you'll find this less repetitive and more enjoyable. When I first submitted this it was aimed to be a fun and bouncy piece, now although it's still got that feel to it at parts, other parts are now written to make the piece more dramatic, to be more in context with the original 'The Stage is Set', which tended to be played at important marching points of the game. I've changed the name of this submission from the rather generic 'Let's Go' to 'Ready to March' (which also fits nicely in with the political climate over here in England) Anyway, hope you enjoy this. Thanks for your time Jack -----------------

  13. Hello there! I have just finished up a remix of the 'Ending' song from Mega Man 3, titled "Blue Bomber, FTW!" I am aware that I have a Mega Man 3 medley already on this site featuring this song, however I have completely re-arranged and reimagined it for a standalone version because I just love this song so, so much. This remix features a creamy, overdriven electric guitar, a glistening Hammond-style organ, a couple of guitar solo sections(complete with extreme arpeggio wankery over modulations during the bridge), and an actual hands-on bass performance this time instead of synthesized bass. It's much more calculated, stylish and less edgy than the older one in my medley. I performed all the instruments myself except for the drums, which were all programmed by me from scratch. All work was done in Cakewalk SONAR. However, I've come a long way as a musician since my last remix, and I hope this is able to convey that as much as I feel it does. Thanks so much for your time, I look forward to your comments and critique! -----------------------

  15. My laptop touchpad somehow registered a click and sent the email off before I had a chance to put the attachment on! :S Sorry! ReMix Title: Bullet Fists of Lightning Fury ReMixer name: ergosonic Real name: Gilbert Orrantia Email address: masterg1390@gmail.com Website: www.youtube.com/theergosonic User ID: 32954 Game: Mega Man X Original Song: Spark Mandrill Source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYdSLaVu9p4 Comments: So I ended up joining the Maverick Rising project, and I decided to work on Spark Mandrill, as I've always loved the stage's music! My inspiration for this track is 70s/80s progressive rock/thrash metal. To me, the structure of the song was influenced by playing the game, as I usually do that to get inspiration for any tracks I do. I run through the changes, I alter the chord progression slightly the second time through the progression, and then I have a solo middle section that builds up to return to the first (original) chord progression of the track. Bahamut convinced me to sub this, so here I am submitting my first mix! Hope you guys like it! --------------------- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYdSLaVu9p4
  16. OA said to sub this today... Your ReMixer name: Brandon Strader Your real name: Brandon E. Strader Your website: www.bstrader.net Your userid: 3123 --> FF1 PROJECT <-- LINK: Name of game(s) arranged: Final Fantasy I (NES, GBA) Name of individual song(s) arranged: Church, Main Theme Nobuo Uematsu CHURCH (GBA) MAIN THEME (NES)My own comments on this... I made it in about 4 or 5 hours after Benjamin "Birdo Egg Shooter" Briggs dropped Church because he didn't like it. I started with Church, discovered that the first part of Main Theme used the same key progression (C Major, G Major, D Minor, A Minor) so I threw on Main Theme for the ending. This song is named and the intro is in tribute to the band Camel. 0:00 - 0:36 = Organ fade-in intro, the source melody begins to play with max reverb then fades in volume until the reverb lowers to a normal amount and the volume is normalized 0:36 - 1:33 = Main melody / key progression from the source plays twice, second time with accompanying Mellotron Choir (much love for the mellotrons) 1:34 - 2:09 = The second part of the Church source, I had some trouble picking out the chords here, but you can hear the source prominently played on the piano. Much love for the Mellotron strings. <3 2:10 - END = Song finishes off with the lead melody and chord progression from MAIN THEME, and ends with solo piano/bass of Main Theme, with a tiny nod towards Dream Theater in the final couple notes. There's no "blistering solo section", but I really love this kind of laid back bluesy vibe, and it's not meant to jump out and stab you in the face with its movements. I think it's very lovely, the middle section is a bit dark due to the chord changes but I've always liked the darker parts, especially in ballads, to stir that type of emotion in people. Yeah, Benjamin "The Button" Briggs, or as djp nicely called him, BB, dropped Church but he's still making Town for the FF1 project. This song wouldn't exist if he had finished Church. :3 ---------------------
  17. Hey, it's been a while since my last submission! Please consider it is a bonus project track from Emunator's DKC3 project. Contact info Your ReMixer name: Chernabogue Your real name: Alexandre Mourey Your email address: chernabogue@gmail.com Your userid: 20943 Submission info Name of game(s) arranged: Donkey Kong Country 3 Name of individual song(s) arranged: "Jungle Jitters" Additional information about game including composer, system, etc: David Wise/SNES Link to the original soundtrack: ReMix title: 'Joyful Jungle Jig' Your own comments about the mix, for example the inspiration behind it, how it was made, etc: "While looking to the DKC3 project thread, I saw that 'Jungle Jitters' was the only track left. I looked for a Midi track and the track's bassline inspired me a lot. As it was a Donkey Kong Country track, I thought jazz and ethnic music would fit the best, but I'd never tried to make a song with such genres. 'Jungle Jitters' was a strange source, since it was composed with percussion, a few jazzy melodies and some monkey screams. Finally, the track sounds like if it was ripped from a modern Donkey Kong game, using various orchestra and ethnic samples, like the pan flute or the 'djembe' ensemble. And the acoustic bass sample comes from Emunator, the DKC3 project director himself! Thanks to him for his precious time and feedback!" I hope everything's okay. Don't hesitate to ask me if there's a problem! -Alex ---------------

Ever since a child, I always thought the intro music to Super Mario 2 sounded like an 8-bit banjo, so I've always wanted to remix it. Unfortunately, no one else in the entire world shares my affinity for both bluegrass & video games, so I decided to start my own solo 'band' to accomplish that purpose. This is more of a bluegrass/jazz type of fusion inspired by the works of David Grisman (of Grateful Dawg fame). I hope it finds a place in that small portion of your soul that pines for simpler times. Thanks for listening and I hope it induces a little feet stomping and knee slapping . ---------------------------- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oD0d-XC_Cho
  19. ReMixer name: ProtoDome Real name: Blake Troise Userid: 25246 Name of game arranged: Kirby Superstar Name of song arranged: Taking Over the Halberd, Opening Original Composer: Jun Ishikawa, Dan Miyakawa Tasty Source: , **WARNING** This is Milky Way Project Mix. Handle with extreme care. If you like 8-bit, you'll feel a little disappointed, this is 16-bit. No, don't cry, grow up, the late 80's was ages ago. The early 90's is cool now. Okay, this one is a little liberal in the way it treats the source, but it is pretty much constantly source, just SLOOOOOWWWWW'd down. Don't be afraid to put YES'. I'll accept YES (borderline) too, I'm a pretty easy-going guy. Damn, I love Kirby. --------------------- halc edit - full title of this track is 'Chef Kawasaki's 16-Bit Jazz Orchestra - Walkway of Stars'. Had to condense the thread title because it wouldn't fit. o.o
  20. FYI: as per Shariq being super nice, we now know the source is Nostalgia. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4MNvbz5NEw There are some definite nice expansions on the source melody here, and overall I like what's going on. I feel the track goes on for a little too long and/or gets a bit repetitive. I wouldn't mind hearing this condensed a bit, or having the source be altered a bit more in the later occurrences. I also like the soundscape, but I felt like the lead synth got a little overused, and could also use a change up somewhere closer to the middle of the track. Andrew is correct about the drums, they need to be fixed up, both the bass drum and the timing at spots. Along with that, pull back the compression a bit, and production otherwise is pretty good. Some spots to fix, but shouldn't be too hard to take care of. NO (resubmit)
  21. Not much I can say to expand on what the two gentlemen above have expounded upon. The arrangement itself is pretty nice, so kudos on that, but all the production and samples and other stuff is killing it. NO
  22. Definitely a good choice to slow this down and make it into a dance track, but as Andrew said, right now there isn't enough interpretation on the source. I'd like to see you work on adding more and expanding on the source more. The ending is also a bit weak and could use a bit more work. The lead synth isn't too bad, but it might be a nice idea to change it around to add some different textures into the song. I'm also agreeing with OA on the balance needing to be fixed up to bring out the lead a little more and pull back on the arpeggiating synth. You've got a good start here, but it needs some work. NO
  23. Love this source tune, and actually most of the PMD soundtrack (in your face, Grandpa Vig). The treatment you've given this is pretty natural, and quite a bit of fun to listen to. The soundscape is well chosen, and the arrangement is a nice expansion on the original melodies. Here's to hoping there is more Mystery Dungeon submissions! YES
  24. Lots of good things going on here; love the overall soundscape and feel, and everything feels natural. The problem I'm having is that the source doesn't get much time in the spotlight, specifically for the last minute where I'm not hearing it at all (yes, I know it's there for some of it, but wayyyyyy buried). I can't let this one go without some sort of return to the source somewhere in there. NO (please resubmit)
  25. Andrew's nailed this. Tons of really cool stuff, and I love the bassline, but it's overpowering things right now. Adjust your levels to balance this a little better, please! The arrangement could use a little restructuring so that it's not quite a downward slide. Try to pull some energy back into things towards the end to bring the listener back in. NO (resubmit)
