The arrangement is great, no qualms with that. Except that creepy as heck ending. Seriously, dude. Also, I'd have liked the overall sounds to be a bit more realistic and somewhat mechanical, but I think what you have compliments everything well, so it works as is. Lot's of good things going on here. I like the adaption of the source, and the overall progression of the song. Source usage is easy to pick out, but not too coverish. Overall drumwork is pretty varied and compliments the music well. I found that, especially towards the end, the background stuff started to get a bit muddy. Seemed like the rhythm guitars vs. backing synth caused there to be a bit too much going on in the same frequencies, and they were all vying for the same spot. The strings used at the beginning have a very mechanical attack that I'd like to see touched up. The snare sound wasn't really doing it for me. I'm not sure if it needed a different treatment or a better cut, but it just didn't quite match everything else to me. The bass could have used a touch more volume as well. Most of the fixes are small, but I think they add up, and I also think they won't be too hard to fix up. I want to see this again. NO (resubmit) -

Genrewise, this is completely uncharted territory for me, but I'm satisfied with the way it turned out, so I hope you are too. The inspiration for this probably comes from listening to too much Virt, Jamiroquai and Joshua Morse (If you stare into the Abyss long enough...etc, etc). It's a bit on the liberal side of things so I'll provide a source breakdown. Xenon Odyssey provided some much needed live sax playing which really adds another dimension to the mix, so he's credited as a collaborator. Special shoutout goes to melody for providing me with a live, humanized version of the lead piano melody (heh) in the first minute. Chord progression is completely original unless I somehow managed to rip it off subconsciously. 00:00 - 00:18 Original 00:18 - 00:34 Modified version of the Forest Interlude synth ostinato 00:35 - 00:51 Somewhat verbatim version of Forest Interlude lead melody with embellishments 00:53 - 01:08 Forest Interlude ostinato pretty much verbatim. 01:09 - 01:50 Original, though maybe some allusions to the source in the synth lead. 01:50 - 02:30 Stickerbrush Symphony ostinato + lead. 02:31 - 03:05~ Forest Interlude lead + ostinato. Rest is original soloing though there's allusions to the source in the sax solo. It doesn't come out to an exact 50% but I'd feel like a kitten murderer if I had to fade the soloing section out earlier/faster (the fadeout itself takes a good thirty seconds). So please, think of the kittens. My original goal for this was to do the Brinstar theme as something you could conceivably hear wandering endlessly through one of the Metroid Prime worlds. Although Larry made good points that I really had not achieved this goal, I could still see it happening and I still wanted to keep much of the original style and goal in place. You still have what I wrote about my original submission so I won't go into that. This is a slow, steady beat of an electro mix with lots of ambiences and drive going on as well (or at least was my intention). I wanted to keep the German style synth fashion going on so there are intentionally plenty of repetitions. I couldn't, however, do much for the velocities of the z3ta instruments I used (and I used a lot of them) even though I tried. I don't think it will get in the way of the mix. I wanted to collaborate with an artist on this one and that took a long time before I ended up just making the changes myself (to various degrees of success) with WillRock helping me on the mixing and mastering side of things. WillRock's helpfulness went beyond the call of duty in my opinion, so even though he mastered it, I still want his name to appear next to mine if this gets posted. The changes for this version include: - Updated Title "I, Samus (Godwave) - Hopefully significantly cleaned up and fixed mixing/mastering. - Fixed the choir - Fixed the beat - Changed drums from FL Studio to Kontakt 4. The drums were the biggest challenge and I could only really do what I could do. I don't think this will be a problem. (The snare alone required like 13 different samples) - Added some minor changes and instrument additions - Other changes I can't think of at the moment. Its still not just perfect, but I think this has been my best remix attempt yet and I hope you enjoy it. ---------------------------------- - Brinstar - Chozo Ruins(might want to double check sources aside from Brinstar if someone is more familiar with the Prime soundtrack than I am)

The rest is from the Main Theme. I signed on for Heroes vs. Villains, and the God of War source in particular, because I was up for a challenge. For the longest time, I didn't think I could do it. The original idea was for metal with heavy backing orchestration. I wanted to make something that sounded like it should have been on the God of War Blood and Metal EP. Whereas that EP was more of a collection of random songs by metal bands, this is much more true to the game's feel I think. This remix changed the way I approach remixing as a whole. I used youtube as a reference to hear my source, and I worked a tiny bit at a time with each instrument until I was able to comprehend the source and put it in a metal context. Long story short, it was hard, and it took a really long time. I usually work with songs I'm familiar with, and do most of the work from memory. remixer = chthonic game = pokemon r/b/y songs = ss anne, pokemon center featured on Pokemon: the Missingno Tracks remix album when I found out the pokemon project was basically accepting any and all pokemon remixes, I had to jump on it. I have always loved the ss anne music, and I think it is probably one of the more memorable tracks from the OST (considering how much time one could potentially spend on the damn boat). as always, I basically had no plan at all when I started this mix, and I just let my natural memory of the theme guide the arrangement. clarinet, banjo, chiptunes, and a whole lot of pop-rock inspired chord changes are crammed into a fairly short time span, and I think it works pretty well. you could say it's a "concept" mix of sorts because the ending is designed to give the feeling of sinking/drowning, though that may be a stretch ------------------------- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MeE__KUVoo - SS Anne http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KndNS2H8yGA - Pokemon Center

There are some good ideas in here, but overall I am feeling this this is too conservative of a mix. The source melody is used nearly verbatim whenever it appears, and the parts that are added are to far between to really break up that feeling. Near the end is where I started to hear you add your own stuff that would have been awesome to hear at the beginning, therefore I know you have it in you to bring out a better arrangement from this. The soundscape is a little sparse overall, although for the most part it works for this type of arrangement. Some sections could have used something else going on to fill things up a little bit more, but not all. The sounds overall are a bit generic, and maybe a little underproduced. I liked the overall percussion used, although it could stand to be a little louder, as well as a lot of the lead instruments. You've got a start here, but there is a ways to go. Start by trying to break up the original more and add more of your own flavor. The WIP forums will be your friend, use their advice to your advantage! NO (resubmit) -

Lee is right, the arrangement of this is fantastic, as per usually for you, Mr. Freak. He is also correct that right now things are just a tad muddy, and clearing that up would help this track out. I'd say overall this is borderline on that aspect, and I am willing to give this a nod, but if the other judges are more strict on the quality, I could call this conditional, as well. Love the arrangement, though. YES (borderline)

*NO* Final Fantasy 7 'The Story Begins'

Pretty cool that you took this as a challenge between the both of you to create music, I approve! I can tell that you must have listened to the original a lot to get all the different parts down just right. That being said, while there is some interpretation here, this is mostly a cover, which isn't going to match up to our standards. If you are willing to revisit this to add some of your own interpretation, variation, and original material in order to bring this up to our bar, fantastic. Otherwise it is a pretty good stand-alone piece. Production was pretty good, and I liked the hand percussion added throughout, although it needs to have the same room treatment as the orchestra (right now it sounds much closer than the rest of the instruments). I also noticed that in some cases the attacks of the instruments felt a little too harsh, especially the brass in some areas. This might be more personal taste, but some (not all) attacks could be softened up. You definitely have some good ears and skills for mixing, but this needs to be more interpretive for our site. If you decide to revisit this, good luck! If not, hopefully we can hear something new by you in the future. NO (resubmit) -

This is a charming rendition of Dali, and I enjoyed listening to it quite a bit. Arrangement-wise it is a bit conservative melody-wise, but there's plenty here added. There is, however, one pretty major problem and one more minor issue here. You have a great voice, but right now your intonation needs work. Especially for a song that is relying quite a bit on your voice this needs to be more in tune. I don't think it's anything more than practicing at this point, so I encourage you to continue to do so. The minor issue stems from the lyrics themselves. Without having them to read, I can't give you clear examples, but there are times where the words are a bit awkwardly placed so that the wrong syllables are being inflected or there are pauses in the middle of a sentence. This makes some of the phrases sound strange. I'd consider trying to reword those sections to get improve the overall flow. It is really great to hear another female vocalist interested in game music, and I encourage you to stick with it. I'd love to hear this with improved intonation, and hopefully a bit better flow. I love this approach to the source. There's a lot of great things going on here, and overall the arrangement is very well done. The various sound elements are used effectively, and although the soundscape is a little sparse at times (I would have liked some more subtle backing pads during the more empty sections), there is a lot of emotion packed in this. The balance of instruments is pretty good, without sections feeling crowded or overdone. Overall I felt that at times some of the instruments weren't treated to sound in the same space as others. Some of the percussion sounds a little too forefront compared to the brass and strings at times as an example. Nice approach to this source, I want to see this fixed up. NO (resubmit) -

Plenty of good things going on in this track. Percussion sounds pretty good, although the snare could have a little more punch to it. Synth choices are sound, and reminiscent of Koshiro's style. I would have liked a little more low end to ground things a bit better. Random note: That weird yelping section is pretty neat! In terms of arrangement, I don't think there's anything really wrong with this, but I'm noticing a lack of build in this track. Once it gets going, it does just that, but there isn't much that changes the energy level once it gets there. Instruments change around, but somehow, this all feels the same. I don't exactly know how to describe it, but I feel like it's pulling the track down a bit. Maybe it's the steady drum patterns that don't change very often, and/or the very similar background through a lot of it. It seems like I'm being pretty hard on this, but honestly it's a good track and I definitely think it's over the bar. I just am being nitpicky because I know you can pull your game up to that level to make your future tracks great. Hope to see you really knock the next one out of the park! YES -

I've got to say, this isn't a source I would think to remix. It's pretty ambient, and there isn't much going on to use. That being said, I think you took what you had and made good use of it. There is lots of use of the source in here, and more than that, you used a lot of elements from the original into this. It's hard to judge this because of how ambient it is overall, and the amount of original material that has to be put into this to make it work. The bassline you used with the track works pretty well, but gets a little overused towards the end. I like the way the percussion is used here, although it could cut through just a little more. I'm really not a fan of the bass sound here. It just doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the track, and is too loud and forefront overall. If it were toned down and made to match the rest of the track better, I would be more comfortable with this. I think it's close here, but unless that bass is adjusted, I can't let it by. I was going to consider recommending this as an appropriate holiday release...until I heard those sfx. >.< Orgasmic moans aside, this is a pretty sexy piece, with some smooth sax playing and that deep bass. Source usage is obvious and nicely adapted. And, I have to admit, the yelps and moans are used oddly tastefully. YES

It took nearly 2 years but i finally got everything down pact without you guys i dunno what the hell would've happened. This track was influenced by bLiNd's Jade Catacombs & iio- Rapture (Armin Van Buuren's Remix) I took what I like from those tracks and combined it with my own style I didnt really expect for it to come out sounding very uplifting but im happy that I was able to pull something like this off. Before my mix Pretension was ever posted I use to doubt my abilities as a Trance Producer and I was very intimidated by OCR's standards but now I know everything will be fine from this day forward. The arrangement on this is pretty good. It's definitely taking the original up a step, and the changes and additions to the source are nicely done. There are some production issues. The balance feels a little too organ-heavy at times, and it is overpowering a lot of the other elements. The levels all around need a little tweaking. My biggest issue with the track is the drum sounds overall. Most of them overall aren't cutting through enough for the track. With a little more oomph I think they would really help bring this track alive and make it even creepier. I think this is really close, but those changes will push it over the edge. I found the overall arrangement of this to be pretty good. I liked how the rhythms were altered, but a lot of the time you can still very easily recognize the source. There are a few moments where things feel a little lost from the source, but it isn't long before it comes back. The problem is the samples are super weak, which is totally bringing down the whole mix. Along with that, there are some balance issues with some of the backing pads being too loud and overbearing. Nice arrangement, but without those sounds getting fixed up this isn't going to pass. Please use the WIP forums to get some feedback to be able to get this fixed, and I want to hear it again! There's a lot of good things going on here. Knowing that you recorded everything live adds a nice touch to the piece, and overall the groove, while pretty similar to the original, is done nicely. Unfortunately there are some flaws that are pulling this track down. I'm not crazy about the distant sound on the lead guitar overall, which sounds a bit out of place compared to the rest of the instruments. It needs to be brought a little more forefront, and maybe just a hair louder overall. The overall arrangement stays a little too close to the structure of the original. I like the solos thrown in, and I'd like to hear more of that and more variation of the source melody as well. Along with that, the rhythm guitars get a bit stuck on the same pattern for a lot of the piece, and could really use some variety to help bring this track to life. The drum patterns are pretty great, so I know you have it in you to change those guitar patterns. Great start, needs some fixes. NO (resubmit) -
