  1. Great expansion on the original source, I like everything you've done here. Synth choice is very complimentary, and the vocals add a lot of mystery to the piece. Speeding up the original also worked very well in your advantage. YES
  2. I really like the idea you have behind this, and I would love for you to flesh this out to a fuller arrangement. Right now I feel like the arrangement runs through the source twice, and doesn't expand very much. Maybe you could incorporate another source in here, if you are running low on ideas. Aside from being overcompressed, I enjoyed the sound choices and the different production aspects here. I really want to see this one again, please relook at it! NO (please resubmit)
  3. Words cannot describe the awesomeness of this.
  4. The arrangement you have has a lot of cool things going on, but as you said, it's a little hectic, and doesn't really feel cohesive at times. A lot of it is really good, but I'd like to see some adjustment so that things overall flow a bit better. The opening sounds very mechanical; I know it's going for the baroque style, but I honestly would not have thought someone played this vs. it being programmed based on the intro. The sample used isn't really going to cut it for a solo piano mix. I also would like to see a little more use of dynamics to bring out some parts and pull back some others. A lot of the arrangement is quite fun to listen to, but it needs to flow together a little better, and the sampling/playing has some improvements needed. NO (resubmit)
  5. There are some interesting ideas going on here, but overall this runs pretty long, and the ideas start to wear thin. I would condense this by about a minute and a half. Along with that, the overall texture is pretty sparse, and could be filled in a bit more. Overall the sounds are a bit lacking. Everything feels a bit thin, and there are a few instances where you are either directly sampling the game or using very similar sounds. There's nothing wrong with doing that occasionally, but I think it's done enough that along with the overall soundscape it pulls the track down a bit too much. I do think you have some good ideas, and an interesting approach to the Countdown Begins source (Off the Edge of Despair feels more like a cameo), but it needs some work. I'd use our WIP forums to get some more feedback. NO (resubmit)
  6. I went back and forth on this mix for a while, and I feel like there's something it needs right now that I can't exactly put my finger on, although I don't think the length is the issue like OA is thinking as much as it is the fact that because it is so minimal, any issues are standing out as more then they normally would. There are a couple of times where I would have liked the source to be more prominent, and as I said, it sticks out more because there is so little else going on. Also, along with the bit of intonation, there are a couple times where the timing feels just slightly off. Regardless, the use of the source and backing arpeggiated lines are nicely done, and the use of the style is very natural for this piece. Instrument choice works nicely, and the waves add some nice texture. Still going back and forth on this, but maybe the next judge to vote can really help solidify my vote one way or another. For now, however: YES (borderline)
  7. There is honestly little I can say that is different from what Andrew said: The production on this is solid, and the sound effects are really classily used. Overall the arrangement sounds pretty good, but unfortunately it just feels too close to the source for too much. Expand on the parts a little more, please! The ending, I also agree on, I'd really like to see that changed up. Please please resubmit this! NO (resubmit)

  9. contact info:melody peter kim www.youtube.com/xrisingforcex 29447 submission info: Chrono Trigger Epoch source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-QDybqj8Zw my inspiration for this piece was to evoke the actual act of travelling in the epoch and make the listener perceive the experience from a first-person perspective. i wanted to illustrate the actual journey into the fabric of time, in a rendered-silent-by-the-awe-of-it-all sort of way. this is opposed to associating the song with its original function, as overworld map bgm, and challenging the listener to always look past surface values and really contemplate the core of a song. feel free to keep the link up when it gets rejected ------------------------ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-QDybqj8Zw

  11. ReMixer Name: Cyril the Wolf Real Name: Connor Pelkey Email: cgpelkey@yahoo.com Website: None at this time User ID: 14729 Game Arranged: Mega Man Zero 2 Song Arranged: Gravity Hey guys! This is an arrangement I did for the August DoD that I felt was too good to let slip through the cracks (see every other non-project mix of mine) and of course it features my awful voice as lead! YAY!! This mix may seem conservative, especially since the intro is almost verbatim to the source, but I change it up more noticeably as the song continues. Around :50 I change the beat around which that riff is built. I added a little repeating line that kept the song from stagnating, and I change up the vocal melody each time with different octaves and trills and other such things in the verses. 2:32 on is a very interpretive bridge, with the guitar solo switching meters for some fun. The final chorus also changes up the rhythms significantly. I've been overly meticulous with this mofo, but I think the work pays off. If this gets on the site, maybe I'll complete all my other vocal mixes becuase I can't keep my freakin' mouth shut! Lyrics: Energy flows through their wires They will never tire All the time you had fought for They never stop Foolish humans, faulty machines Giving rise to evil things One by one they will fall to you Though... they never stop Over and over again The forces of evil rise Over and over again They come meet their demise You keep fighting through the protest Some think giving in is best Keep going through your own misgivings This will never stop... Over and over again Our innocents will all die Over and over again No matter how long we cry Fear has power if we give it You gave us hope and spirit We will take this threat no longer WE WILL NEVER STOP!!! Over and over again We fight for all our lives Over and over again We always will survive ------------------------
  12. Remixed by: Acolyte John Imbler john5red@msn.com www.johnimbler.com User I.D. 41247 Game: Donkey Kong Country 3 Track: Northern Kremisphere Platform: Super Nintendo Source Track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M65L-R9Ds5Y Download Link to Remix: http://www.mediafire.com/?w217uu7yj2o5er7 The source material, for me, was perfect for the game, and its use as the world map music. You have this kind of happy, but soaring intro, and then the bass and drums come in and the other half is this darker, almost sad feeling to it. Take the world backs aim was to do this in reverse. It starts out dark and powerful, and then the other half is upbeat, hence the "Take the World Back" title; from the kremlins. I have the synth bass playing the bass line from the source through out, the majority of the time it is being played in octaves and has swing on it to give it some more movement. The pads are playing the darker melody from the sources second half, for the tracks first half. I also was liberal in changing the melody up and adding to it through out the song. The the dark melody can be heard in the lower piano towards the end during the upbeat section. Another thing to take note of is the huge cinematic sounding percussion, heard most prominently in the begging but used throughout. This was derived straight from the cinematic drums used in the source, They play similar if not the same as well. There was not much going on in the source in terms of melody, as I felt it was more of an ambient piece, so the real goal was to add a lot of movement to it while still keeping the large expansive atmosphere of the original. ----------------------- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M65L-R9Ds5Y
  13. Good point out there, I'm sorry we ended up missing this. I'm willing to change my vote over it. YES
  14. One wouldn't think of a strange game like Mario Golf having a good soundtrack, but it proves to show that you can find awesome music in the weirdest of places. As Andrew says, the expansion here is subtle, but nicely done. Everything feels naturally done, and the energy throughout is pretty good. The use of the panning works really well here, and all the different details and effects you added add a lot of shimmer to the piece overall. I dig. YES
  15. I found this to be a pretty creative take on the source, and I think a lot of people are going to enjoy listening to this. As OA says, there are times where the source feels a little too pushed aside, but it always comes back pretty strong within a short time, so it works out. There are a lot of subtle references as well that really help make this. YES
  16. I can hear the source melody, but it's pretty sparsely used. Not gonna stopwatch it, but there definitely needs to be more used. NO (resubmit)
  17. Agreed with Andrew, you guys produced a good collab, and it flows very nicely. Plenty of good things going on here, and the arrangement itself is very personalized. I'm not totally digging the 'radio talk' in the background near the end, mostly because it's a little too loud compared to the music, but it's still fine as is. YES BTW, did you stretch those vocals to 800%?
  18. I will agree with Andrew that while there isn't too much arrangement aside from the genre shift, there is some ice personalization to the source. I'd personally like more done to give this a bit more of a unique edge, but it's still good as is. I do think that the arrangement drags on a little too long or could use something to great bring back the focus later on in the piece. Maybe a dynamic change or more drastic dropout/add in of instruments would help. Overall the production needs some work. As OA said, right now things aren't working together, and the mix really feels unfocused for it. I also am not a fan with the opening synth, but that's more personal choice. NO
  19. The look on the face of the lady in the background: Priceless.
  20. Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes! My day is pretty chill so far, and I am looking forward to dinner at my parents house.
  21. I like the general idea you've got here. You've got the idea of not wanting to leave, but maybe it's more because they are offering free massages or something, rather than the doom that awaits outside. Drums are a nice touch, and they stay comfortably in the background to do their thing, and the bass lays things down nicely as well. One big part that's sticking out to me is 1:30: it feels like the whole track looses momentum right there for me, and it takes a while to recover it. I'd work on that transition and see about doing something else to fill things in there. Overall I'm just wishing there was just a little more going on. The track doesn't have enough momentum, even for a chill track like this. If you could give it a little more focus and directionality I think it would improve things overall. Along with that, some subtle dynamics wouldn't hurt. Like what you've got here, but it needs a push to get it over the bar. Keep working on it! NO (resubmit)
