  1. ReMixer name - Anti-Syne Real name - Jack Lewis Email address - jack_lewis13@hotmail.com Userid - 31863 Submission Information Name of game(s) arranged - FFVIII Name of individual song(s) arranged - Under Her Control ( )So firstly, yes this ReMix is heavily influenced by Daft Punk, I wanted to created that catchy, gritty, funky sound, but without it being too repetitive (Basically, I want it to get stuck in your head, but, without it annoying you). This is my first submission since I significantly upgraded my software, which means I wasn't nearly as limited making this track as I have been with my other submissions, so hopefully that shows here. Anyway, I had alot of fun with this, hopefully you'll enjoy it too. Jack -----------------------------
  2. Dear OCREMIX, Kindly find the following information for my Arrangment " In Shadows-Theme of Edea" -------- CONTACT INFO Remixer name: LadyReemz86 Real Name: Reem Zaki Email: Ladyreemz86@hotmail.com Website/site: www.youtube.com/user/ladyreemz86 UserID: http://ocremix.org/forums/member.php?u=29766 GAME INFO Name of game arranged: Final Fantasy VIII ( Name of individual songs arranged: "Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec" and "Sacrifice" Title given to arranged track " In Shadows- Theme of Edea" Composer: Nobou Uematsu Comments: This is a very simple and brief interpretation of the mysterious character of Edea. The wonder and pause in the cover portray a bit of the unnaturalness of her possession throughout most of the game. The tracks of Final Fantasy VIII has always struck something deep within me, and the tracks of " Sacrifice" and " FLWV" do in a dark mystic sort of way, which has led me to explore my own version of them. -------------- Regards, Reem Zaki --------------------------- - Fithos - Sacrifice
  3. OCRemix Song Submission: Song name: Ascent through the Atmosphere Contact Information: Your ReMixer name – Level 99, Emunator Your real name - Stevo Bortz, Wes McDonald Your website – http://level99.thestuffoflegends.net/ Your userid – 13318, 16467 Submission Information Name of game(s) arranged – Pokemon Trading Card Game Name of individual song(s) arranged – Water, Rock, & Psychic Clubs (youtube: )Composer: Ichiro Shimakura System: Game Boy Color Developer: Hudson Publisher: Nintendo Year: 1998 (JP), 2000 (US) Comments on the song: Who did what: Emunator - Piano, arrangement assistance, Level 99 - Everything Else This is going to be a very special, from-the-heart submission letter to you OCR folks. Last MAGFest, I met a wonderful girl who I've been dating ever since. It's basically due to ReMixing and OCR that I had the opportunity to meet Valérie, so it is completely appropriate that I decided to ReMix one of her favorite tracks from Pokemon Trading Card Game for her birthday this year. I stepped pretty far outside of my normal musical style to do this, and it took quite a long time to get it to where I was happy. Valérie means everything to me, and it was worth making this just to see the smile on her face. The song is meant to convey the feeling of bliss and contentment that she brings to my life. Hopefully others enjoy it as well. The song is an ambient electronica mix of the Water, Rock, and Psychic Clubs that was inspired by Boards of Canada and Ulrich Schnauss. The original song didn't provide a whole lot to work with, but I stretched it out pretty far, keeping the main melody line intact for the majority of the song. The chord progression is a simplified version of the bass from the source, and there are two original sections to break up the song that have been source-inspired. I have to give a huge amount of thanks and credit to Emunator, who really helped make this mix possible. By not only giving me lots and lots of feedback on the mix, but also agreeing to help by contributing piano, he helped me achieve the song I was going for. It was such a pleasure working with him, despite some of the technical issues we had to get over to make it all work. I look forward to the next time we get to collaborate. Breakdown of source: 0:03-0:16 - guitar introduces chord progression 0:16-0:29 - part of backing from source is adapated 0:29-1:32 - melody on piano 1:32-1:58 - original section inspired by the source material 1:58-3:02 - melody comes back as a synth lead 3:02-3:48 - original ending section, also inspired by the source including direct melody references Song length - 228 seconds Source usage - 13 + 63 + 64 = 140 seconds Total percentage - 61% I am so incredibly lucky to be a part of this community, and it has brought me so many incredible things as I've been involved. If you'll pardon me for ending on a sappy note, I can't imagine my life without Valérie now, and I have OCR and the video game remixing community to thank. ~Stevo -------------------
  4. Alright, now that we have a source to compare to, I can get down to business. Arrangement is pretty solid; clear to the source, with plenty of variation. If anything, it's maybe a little short, and I am not completely sold on the fade-out, although it's not bad. Production is overall solid as well. Good use of dynamics as well as overall balance. Not much to say to this one. I dig. YES
  5. Much improved, dude! I think you covered the details I wanted hit. Nice work. Still like the ping pong sound you have in there, too. YES
  6. Very little to add to what Andrew is saying here. There's definitely a decent amount of expansion to the original, although sometimes the mix feels like it's treading water (aka not much going on) at times. The samples are a bit weak overall, and could stand an upgrade, although the guitar itself is nicely done. And, as OA mentioned, the sequencing itself is pretty stiff, and needs to be worked on. There's a good start here, work on the details and I'd like to see this again. NO (resubmit)
  7. I'm sorry Shariq, you'll be male in the next game, too.
  8. Depends on the game, really. If it's something with a lighter story or something I'm replaying, I like to name characters after friends. It's generally amusing, because I have more friends who are close who are guys, and someone always has to pull the 'short stick' as it were. Poor Stevo lost this time...
  9. I liked SWGalaxies before they completely screwed over my character with their revamp. Like seriously, they took everything about my character and trashed it, so I was completely useless. I am curious about this game, but I'll hold out until I see it released and get some first hand reviews.
  10. I am definitely hearing improvement in you, Alex, and this is probably your best submission yet. I do think the arrangement gets a little far away from the source at times, and having those sections trimmed out, like Andrew mentioned, will help with the overall length issue. The samples overall are a bit rough, and I'd like to see those improved as well. Andrew gave a lot of good points to look at, so I won't add too much myself. I will say that 3:36, despite being source-oriented, sounds kinda strange; I'm not sure if it's totally that the original is strange itself (it is), but I think the synth choice adds to that. If that's what you were going for, cool, but it wasn't really my thing. If you keep working on this, kudos and good luck to you, NO (resubmit)
  11. There are a lot of good arrangement ideas in here, and overall I like how you approached this theme, as well as the Dr. Light theme that cameos in a few spots. A couple things are bugging me. Overall, this is pretty long, and I felt like you could easily take out about a minute out of this. There's just a little too much fluff for my tastes; areas that are very similar to other arrangement ideas I heard earlier in the piece. There were also a couple of transitional areas that were a little weak; the slowdown transition sticks out the most for me. I was also not really feeling most of the sound effects and how they were used. The only one that made sense to me was the "X gets an upgrade" noise (or whatever you would call that). I think the biggest thing that is pulling this down are the samples overall. A lot of them just aren't cutting it for me, and aren't holding their own like they should. Synth you use for the main section is a bit thin overall, and the strings sound pretty fake and mechanical. The bass drum needs to cut through more; this really shows when it gets into the double pedal section. The guitar playing throughout is good, although I'm wondering if it needs a little more of the lower frequencies. Good start here, but I need you to trim the fat a little and work on those sounds. NO (resubmit)
  12. The intro is definitely deceptive. Once things kick in, you've got a lot of good things going on. I like that you kept the creepy atmosphere and added onto it. My biggest issue is that there isn't too much variation of the melody itself, but there is a lot of other additions. The whole song is pretty percussion-centric, which would get old if the song wasn't the length that it was (being on the shorter side really works for this). Kind of a tough call on this, but it's a pass for me. YES
  13. While I personally like the more natural vocals in the song, I will admit this has a charm of it's own. Stevo did a great job in his delivery to really make the track come alive, and I need to hear more vocals from him! Nice work, bro!
  14. This was fun to listen to. Despite there being four separate sources in here, there was only one transition that really played up the fact that this was a medley. The section between Level 6 and the Boss level has the song come to a complete stop, which felt pretty awkward to me, especially compared to how nice the other transitions were. Certainly not a dealbreaker, but noticeable none-the-less. As Andrew said, the EQ needs to be cleaned up a little on this. I'd like to see that get done, and I think it'll be good to go. YES (conditional)
  15. Andrew's right on this. Arrangement is sounding good, but the production kills this. Drums are weak, and the sounds aren't blending well together. Along with that, the overcompression is also very noticeable. Fix that stuff up, and I think this will be good to go. NO (resubmit)
  16. Love the vibe this pulls off. Bass is sick, and everything is just as awesome. Great combination of sounds, and it was really fun hearing something in a different style out of Mattias (not that I don't LOVE his electronic stuff). Check this one out.
  17. This one actually makes me think of something like a desolate industrial wastleland, which is kind of cool considering the plot of the game itself. Pretty chill sound going on here, and lots of nice beats to keep things moving. Nice work.
  18. So, we were on a good roll, but things have slacked off a bit. I know the holidays are just a couple days away, but you really want to see the next set of pics (they're just over 40 reviews away)!
  19. Big improvement here. Samples are fine, arrangement is good, and it's good the Guifrog flair. YES
  20. This track is definitely a powerhouse: the guitars, bass, and drums really push the track in all directions, and overall it's pretty awesome to listen to. I agree that the synth is getting crowded out, and it would have been nice to hear that clearly, but aside from that, great mix.
