Thanks for the honesty. I'm kicking myself that I didn't sit down and work on this some more over the past week; we'll see how eager I am to "waste" 20 bucks. Ah what the heck: here's my other entry. http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplayer.m3u?id=5015635&q=hi

Thanks guys. Yeah, this was just a quick sketch. I spiced it up a bit and added a little section so it's about 1:40 long. I may just submit it for the heck of it. So sue me; my big submission tends toward euro-trance. Oh yeah, with live violins too; it's cool.

Cool. Not a lot to comment on, but I like where this is going. It's uncanny how all your beats always sound alike, yet different.

Alright, I'm thinking of finishing this up tomorrow and giving DDR a shot with this one. Admittedly, it's a bit odd for a dance track (being more of a breakbeat, and a bit strange sounding at that). What do you guys think? Danceable? Maybe I'm just crazy, but I could see this working for some reason. I'm still looking to contribute to this, but I'm sorry to say that there is no way I'll make the 24th deadline. Over spring break I should have some time, which is the first week or so of March.
-
Yep, I've got one that I'll be submitting this week sometime. Zircon, do you happen to know how the winners will be chosen? Since I am submitting my track so "late," am I at a distinct disadvantage because I miss out on several weeks of possible votes? Or is that just a way to whittle the number of tracks down to make the final decision easier? EDIT: BTW with the free membership at broadjam, it's 20 bucks per entry.

Sweet, guys. I'm all over these. Downloading them all now...any more out there?
-
Looking for some good chill OC tracks, and I really don't feel like randomly downloading tracks to check them out...any recommendations? That Chrono "Time Chill" track is brilliant; stuff in that sort of vein would be great. Thanks.

No joke. IL just keeps plugging away with FL, adding more and more. I'm curious as to this special offer we're supposed to be getting...

Purdy nice, dude. Just e-mailed ya about it. Much much better than that WIP I heard a while back.

Sample sale @ Zircon Studios ;)
Sole Signal replied to zircon's topic in Music Composition & Production
Well, after doing some research and looking around, apparently the Gigastudio isn't compatible with dual-cores or XP Media Edition, both of which I have. So sad. Guess I'm not interested anymore. -

May be interested in the Gigastudio 3 package; what kind of samples does it come with? Apparently you never used it, but do you have maybe a list of the included samples? EDIT: You might as well just PM me. -
So all the recent mixes that have been added got approved way back in August? I refer to the "To Be Posted" list here. http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2819 Oh well.
-
Just curious as to why in the Judges Decisions thread that there are sixteen mixes "To be Posted," some of which are dated August 2006. Is it really that bogged down? I mean, five months is kinda a long time to just sit on someone's HD waiting to be posted.

Heh @ pizza guy I've got a few pretty decent brass soundfonts on my site you may want to check out. There are two french horns, two trumpets, and two trombones as well as a few other instruments. http://www.silverlinestudios.net/documents/freesamples.html

Pretty tight, man. Great groove and production. Just curious, how do you go about programming your drums? Sliced loops? A bunch of layered one shot samples? It just seems like your drums always have a certain feel to them. http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=5967 *shameless plug for just one more judges's opinion about the Bond vs. Goldeneye issue

I'll be Mr. Obvious here. Have you checked www.vgmusic.com?

Thanks Samurai, glad you liked it. Thanks for the thoughts, Malcos. Honestly, I'm not real sure what I could do to change it up (or if I'd even want to,) since it all flows together so nicely right now. I suppose I could go in and mangle the bond theme up a little more, but I'm just to the point where I would like to submit it and take my chances. Only thing is, I really don't want to wait a month and a half to be judged and find out that this issue serves as a major hang-up and I have to fit it and wait all over again. If I could get one or two more judge's thoughts on this?...I may just have to swallow my pride and change the aforementioned sections a bit. :\

@ Thylacine: Thanks for your extended thoughts. Yeah, the "wrong notes" are intentional, although I may have gone a little overboard on them. The high part of the melody that I used is a third above the original note and sounds great while it's harmonizing, so I just dropped out the "correct" notes and just used the harmonizing line. (Again, trying to downplay the original theme as much as I could.) The only place I thought it might sound kinda weird is where you mentioned at 1:28, before it goes into the key change. I think I'll take my chances with the music "sounding flat" from 2:06-2:25. I'll give you that 2:45-2:58 is where the bond theme doesn't try to hide at all, but I figure one major section like that wouldn't hurt too much...maybe I'm wrong. But, yeah, you're the first here to mention noticing the "wrong notes," so that's probably good. The first thing my brother said when he heard this (who's a big piano player), is "man, you got those notes all wrong." I think it sounds fine (even better) when the key change hits, but before that...maybe I'll have to change those back. @D-Lux: I'm using studio headphones and I can't hear any popping. That may be because I've probably been around this mix too much. Thanks for listening though, I'll look into that.

Yeah, it's kinda a hidden thing. *consults IGN* First, on the options screen, hold X, Z, and press start to open the Password screen. Then enter DLPHNMOD. It'll unlock the "ride the dolphin" mode in Dolphin Park, complete with a short punk rendition of the Wave Race tune (it's like a minute and a half loop). I just listened to it; it's pretty basic, just a guitar soloing the tune over some punk chugs and a simple beat. It's still fun to listen to though. And Pi_R_, I've never heard a midi made of the punk style.
-
Yeah, the title theme is great; I'd imagine that you've heard the punk remix that was done for the gamecube version? I'm listening to the midi now...thinking what kind of style it would lend itself to. The tempo is a little fast for trance; it's more dnb speed. I dunno; I'll play around with it and see what I come up with.
-
Yeah, it seems that people around here don't like commenting on Goldeneye mixes. Case in point; my latest WIP with 66 views and one comment other than myself. Anyway, about your mix...I'm going to be completely honest. Workable intro, but way too much distortion from :15 to :28, and then definitely too much at :28 when the guitar? comes in. Things just get louder and louder (unlistenable) until 1:45ish when it doesn't hurt my ears anymore. 2:25 has promise, until the monster drums come back at 3:00. Honestly, you've got some major production issues here. Good luck with it, though; we don't have enough Goldeneye mixes here. http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=5967 Here's mine, which I'll be submitting here pretty soon.
-
Huh, didn't realize that the bass at 1:40 came off as too loud. I was aiming for that distinctive bass sound that all the Bond films have, but maybe it didn't work as well as I had hoped. I use FL, and used basically just Sytrus and EWQL silver for this one. I almost ran out of FX tracks in the mixer, and set a new personal record for patterns used (104). The good news is that my new computer can run it almost flawlessly all the way through (at 45 ms latency, but still.) As for incorporating the bond theme so much, the thing is that the source tune uses the original bond theme quite a bit, and there really isn't enough interesting stuff in the new material to create a long enough remix. Basically the intro, 1:02-1:28, and 2:07-2:32 is all there is that's "new." Essentially the entire Goldeneye soundtrack is fifteen different remixes and rearrangements of the bond theme, so... Anyway, thanks for the comments and I'll definitely look to get a judge's thoughts before submitting.

Man, what a great source tune. I had forgotten about that one. Anyways, yeah work with the scratching sound in the intro. Maybe try a different instrument for the brass hits around 1:05, and right after at 1:25 would be a perfect candidate for a new section. Right now, everything after 1:25 the listener has heard verbatim until 2:20, and even then it's really similar to what you had before. Good luck.
