  1. Want to add a flavor to your song eh? Let's have some scales to cook music with. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It is very easy to read even if you don't know music theory. Just look at the "Semitone Original" column. We'll take "Major" as an example: The Major Scale = 2212221 The first note you play is not included in the count. If you play a C, then the 2212221 tells you that you must play 2 semitones after C, then 2 more, then only 1 (which means the note right after) and so on. On a guitar, if your first note is on the 3rd fret, you will go like this: 3-5-7-8-10-12-14-15 3 + 2 = 5 + 2 = 7 + 1 (as 221 of 2212221) [...] If you understand this you can play any scale here.
  2. Well you can have a third guitar somewhere near the middle. JP plays stereo live and uses a delay between the 2 sides as well as differant and some subtle modulations (chorus, additional delay, EQs..). A delay separating 2 speakers playing a mono track will make it wide, just don't abuse the lenght (keep it below 20ms). In the studio, it's probably quad-tracked with minor changes between the takes (pick-ups, light equing). edit: well Outlaw, you were faster than me ;P but I'd add... JP uses a MESA Mark V, it's badass.
  3. Oh I wouldn't kill myself, I would learn the middle section, but I would know what to do of every knobs on the strips Nothing to be afraid of. Know seriously, you probably have insane librairies in you collection, but how much did that cost you approximatly ? Also, have you even tried R6 ? Can Reaper do the job for those ? edit: Well according to professionals who used the real SSL, it's just like using the real thing. They don't think that it's just a font but the real sound. So the most we get from that mixer is... the sound of a faithfully modelled Solid State Logic console.. REASON 6 is an easy, intuitive and beautiful workshop for composing music.
  4. If he uses Reason and then end up on real hardware, he will know how to operate it since R6 is just like a real rack. For the lack of VST, well you can ReWire into Reaper and have any VST. Why would you need VSTs ? The sound of Reason are very good for classical (if you get the Miroslav Gold Bundle). There's no limitation there and Reaper is free to use and equals Cubase. Reason is hyper stable and light on the CPU. But really, have you seen the mixer ?
  5. That's cool, I like PG, however he is mostly just playing fast pentatonics licks. Why don't you post you favourite runs of his ? Tricks aren't just for kids, you posted some good tricks with the sock and stuff I'll post some stuff of mine soon (will edit my 1st post and keep adding there)..
  6. Yeah! I'm glad to see the direction you took with this project and it'll be a pleasure to listen to when it's all done. I like the fake embedded too.
  7. Heh.. 50% is hard to define. Does it represent the structure, the arrangement, the mixing ?
  8. I can see the replies I get and I can also click the "Sent items" but it shows 0.
  9. I made a mistake. I said I wanted Overture while I meant the Opening theme (Catastrophe+Terra)
  10. You should definetly include this cover before the release of the album
  11. Just thought a thread in which we would post some licks, scales, tricks, personal runs, etc would be cool. So if you guys have any, just post a pic of a tablature or something
  12. I forgot to add that I want to do a video cover of Mario Bros with the sound of my thumb in some bottles of beer.
  13. I'd go for a Jackson JS20 (around 200$) and for a couple extra bucks Schecter with the Omen 6 (300$), in the later you get great pick-ups for stock ones. You can also check out some Epiphones, but for ±200$ I'd only recommand some acoustics. I would not advise you to buy a 100$ electric guitar because they are made so fast, inacurate, with bad components (electronics and parts) and don't stay in tune because of the bad tuning keys. I had a problem with Squire-like guitars when I couldn't balance the tension between the rear springs and the strings because the tremolo block got in the way of the back plate; they screwed the screws with an angle which means they screwed the job and didn't care at all because all they other guitars have the same problem.. It's hard to explain if you don't see what's i'm talking about but to say short it's chain-made by noobs.
