When people are drama baiting, yeah, I can see why it's moved to its own thread. Besides, this sort of thing isn't exactly novel. Happens on sites quite a bit when mods want to keep the focus of a thread intact. I'm happy the mods are willing to let this be discussed instead of censoring altogether. And that was sort of the point, not hearing about something or the group backing it. REPUTATION. OCR has a reputation. It has built that reputation. Therefore I can see why someone would be far more comfortable with it doing donations than another group they don't know doing that. At 8$ a pop I don't honestly see people trying to line their pockets. But I can see the concerns that were had at the time being valid.
-
Yeah, I think a part of the issue is the large dollar amount being raised, and that will be raised. When I first saw the amount explode I had reservations and concerns for sure. But after talking with someone and getting a little perspective I realized that yeah you guys probably didn't expect the kickstarter to be nearly as successful as it was, and so fast. It's an overwhelming thing to deal with for sure. It's outlined how that initial 15k would be spent, but people are still shelling out money. That's no fault of OCR. Yes, the inital reasoning was for the FF6 project, and it may have been a little shortsighted to not explain where additional funding could go, but again, it's hard to predict something being as successful as this. And it's not like people donating at this point are being tricked. One can clearly see the goal has more than been met. This is hardly the first time a Kickstarter project made well beyond the goal. As far as the VV whatever that keeps being brought up... I don't know much about that, or who was behind wanting to get it printed. And that says a lot. No established reputation. OCR has devoted years to building up a certain reputation. So it's understandable that people would be more willing to donate to something with a reputable cause than something with a group they know next to nothing about. It also doesn't help that at least a couple people in the VV group are very outspoken in a vitriolic way and are seemingly always trying to stir up the drama pot. You make a bad rep for yourself, people aren't going to be as trustworthy. Sorry.

Final Fantasy XI: The Land of Vana'diel REMIX ALBUM (AVAILABLE NOW)
Otakatt replied to tweex's topic in General Discussion
Very nice! Looking forward to this. -
Oh, okay. Cool, cool. It's great that you guys have hit your goal too, and so fast. While I still would have liked to see the album be at the 25 pledge, I'm happy OCR is so supported by people.

Shipping is so ridiculous. :s I'd shop more online than I do if shipping didn't cost like half or more than the item I was buying.
-
If that's the breakdown, then why would someone have to pay 50 for the album as opposed to the album being available at the 25 mark? You'd move more albums that way, likely get more willing to donate at that price, and in theory if all 1000 'slots' were taken you'd make well over the 15k mark. So you wouldn't even have to have 1000 backers in that category. IMO that seemed somewhat greedy. And you state here, "nor is any of it going toward musical work on the project". On the KS page it reads, "Additionally, though all artists are volunteers, many tracks will require studio recording time or professional mixing/mastering - things that we could use a budget for!" Does that not count as musical work on the project? Which is fine, but I'm a little confused why what you say here seems to contradict what the KS page says.

It could also be cool if people don't only exclusively sign up as one or the other. Everyone has a talent to share, or can improve their craft no matter how experienced.
-
That's one of my top 5 games. I'm not sure how I'd feel if it were remade. It could be cool, but I think the game is great as is. What about Brave Fencer Musashi? Some nicer graphics and polish on that and mmmmm.

I saw this and got excited... no, not really. ._.; The fact it will come with an I Win button (character booster) amuses me. FF7 was never all that challenging.

God. Yes. T___T

I'll be new and original and say Mother 3. XD But man, even Earthbound makes me tear up at parts. It's less... because of something sad, and more... I'm not sure. Something about the way it's put together is just great at evoking certain moods. I know I've cried at other parts in games, but I'm having a hard time thinking of specifics at the moment. I know Lunar Silver Star Story has made me cry before. >> Oh right, and when I was little and playing Final Fantasy 2 for SNES (What we now know as FFIV!) I'm pretty sure I cried a lot. Spoilers: All the "deaths" just holy crap what. Sure they were fake outs, but as a little kid I wasn't all "pft, we all know Rydia's still alive". I thought she died for reals. T_T And in FFV (spoilers!) when Galuf died. Man. That ripped my heart out. He was my favorite character too...

I don't have an issue with the "TL;DR" length of your initial post. But people do tend to skim, hence suggesting that you highlight the important parts. But really your attitude throughout the thread has been pretty offputting. It's nice you feel strongly about this issue, but it doesn't mean you have to be a jerk about it or put down the fact another thread got more attention than yours. Catch the bees with honey, not vinegar.
-
Well don't you have a lovely attitude? Guilt trips and calling out other threads specifically aren't the way to bring attention to this thread or cause. Child's Play gets so much attention within the video game community as it is, I can totally understand a lot of people seeing this, but think "Well what about other charities..." CP is great and all, but every time I see anyone in the game community discuss a charity, it's ALWAYS Child's Play. It's not bad per se, but I am also at the point I'd like to see some love for other charities demonstrated by those within the gaming community. But I'm not a Chase customer and I wouldn't feel right voting in the first phase. Could be a common sentiment, so maybe post more when the second phase starts. You could also edit the thread a bit to try to draw more attention to it. Check out Liontamer's threads. How he does titles, and how he bolds and increases font size of important points. Draw attention to what you want people to read, because right now TL;DR.

Yeah, I know. And all considered I'm not terribly torn up about it or anything. Was just providing my opinion since BGC asked. ^^

Just as a warning, I'm awful at explaining things. It's for a variety of reasons, I suppose. The fact that it's a sort of a... vigilante justice, for starters. When it comes to that sort of thing it's not black and white. If it's deemed okay to contact an adult's mother if they wrong you, I feel it opens the door to doing the same in other scenarios. Someone is a douche to you on a forum? Take screenshots and send it to their mother! Granted just generally acting like a douche doesn't equate to what this guy did (which was a terrible and horrible thing, don't get me wrong) but I can easily see people justifying that sort of thing if they see something like this happen. And it can get to the point of being ridiculous. And also, I'm a very private person on the internet, in that I don't throw around my personal information. So that probably has something to do with my opinion. I don't want randoms from the internet seeping into my personal life in any way shape or form unless invited. And this is the third time I've seen that happen as of late. A relatively well known reviewer on the internet had a major meltdown recently. Lots of people sent well wishes. That's fine. Some other people were trying to get the personal information of his brother so they could personally contact him to "save" this guy. That's not fine. That's crossing boundaries. I read where someone on DeviantArt had someone find them in real life and just hug them, because they were a fan. It was nothing negative, but the person wasn't thrilled at all, because that is DEFINITELY crossing a boundary. An extreme example, but in line with the boundary thing. If anyone found a way to contact my mother for any reason, negative or positive, I would be absolutely livid. I get mad enough when someone on the internet gets upset at me over something stupid and proceeds to bother me on other places on the internet they've followed me to. But that's just me. I'm very much for boundaries between the internet and real life. YMMV, and probably does since I seem to be in the minority. XD I do want to stress again though, that I don't think what this guy did was right. At all. So I hope no one interprets my opinion as me excusing what he did.
-
While this guy did a scummy thing and I'm all about handling the situation as quickly and professionally as possible it leaves a bad taste in my mouth his mother was contacted about all this. Seems like a line that is best uncrossed.

The Megas new album "history repeating: blue"
Otakatt replied to psychowolf's topic in General Discussion
I didn't get the physical copy because the S&H price made it a bit too steep for me. But I did just get the digital off Bandcamp! Love love love this album. Seriously is the best thing I've heard in years, I can't stop listening to it. -
I think this is a really awesome idea.
-
So cute. A fire flower could go well with it too, or if you can get your hands on a bunch it might be cool to make them Plants vs. Zombies themed. XD

It could just be that people felt most tracks were at average or below. Like I mentioned, while I didn't finish my voting, for the tracks I had voted on? 4s were RARE, and I didn't give out any 5s. Most of my votes were 3s and 2s. It looks like to me a lot of people were very conservative with their voting. It could be a lot of people didn't find a majority of the tracks mindblowing. Or they were keeping OCR standards in their head. I don't know. I'm really confused as to why you're so bent out of shape over the results - with the winning track hovering around a 3. That is NOT unusual for a 1-5 voting system.
-
I know it seems like scoring 3ish is bad, but I think that's actually really good given the method of voting. There's this t-shirt site out there that has a 1-5 voting system, with tooons of people voting on the designs. The best designs that get printed and people adore usually hover around 3, or a high 3. Everyone else gets 1, or a low 2 if they're especially lucky. I hate to say "it's just the nature of the voting system" but I can't think of another way to put it. The only way you'd get a high mark is if you scored lots of 5s. 5, to me, is perfection. It's the best score. It's also one that NO ONE should be handing out like candy. While I didn't finish voting on all the tracks and didn't get a chance to listen to them all during the voting period, I didn't feel anything I had listened to was perfect, therefore I didn't give anything a 5. That includes the track that eventually won this competition. I believe I gave it a 4, and that was rare. I might have given out two 4s? Maybe a few 3s, a fair amount of 2s, but no 1s. 1 = poor and I didn't feel anyone's track was poor. It's also hard to say what criteria people are using to judge these tracks. And music (anything creative, really) is a hard thing to judge, particularly using a 1-5 method. We could vote on these one way today, and then tomorrow we'd revote and not be entirely consistent. My favorite track of what I did hear, I actually gave a 3 to. It was a Blackjack theme, and sounded SO 80s, I loved it. XD However I felt it strayed far away from the source and was a bit too liberal, so I thought it'd be unfair to give it a 4 or 5. TL;DR: The results don't look suspicious to me and match up with every other 1-5 voting system I've seen. We should be very careful about accusing anyone of doing anything shady, especially when zirc has been careful to make sure no shenanigans are going on. I hope people can use it all as a growing experience and not be too upset if they didn't rank in the top 10 or whatever. The 1-5 voting system is harsh and a low average doesn't automatically make you terrible. So everyone should keep at it, nothing I heard was outright terrible and there's definitely a lot of promise going on. And no Locke theme? Really guys?

You make some reeeally awesome stuff.

All the tracks are great, so you really couldn't go wrong with what you pick. I'm rather partial to Gamma Unchained, myself. -
The Megas new album "history repeating: blue"
Otakatt replied to psychowolf's topic in General Discussion
I've never really gone out of my way to listen to The Megas before, but took a special interest in this album since it's MM3, and MM3 has one of my favorite soundtracks of the series. I am *loving* this and I might snag myself an actual physical copy if I can get some extra monies, and assuming shipping and handling isn't ridiculous. Will probably go back to listen to their older stuff too. This is really top notch. -
OCRA-0035 - Final Fantasy: Random Encounter
Otakatt replied to Brandon Strader's topic in Album Reviews & Comments
I'll be honest. When I heard the very first trailer for this project waaaay back in the day I didn't think it was going to be very good at all. The trailer didn't sound awesome to me, and I felt a bit disappointed. So I haven't been terribly hyped about it, despite it being OMG ORIGINAL FINAL FANTASY (which I adore~!). When I saw the NEW trailer at OCR recently I was really impressed because it sounded so so so so so so much better than the first trailer. So I was definitely interested in hearing this album, which I just did~ I have some mixed feelings, but overall my impressions of this album and project are positive. I don't want to go too in depth of my feelings and critiques only after one listen, however, so I'll be listening to it more before doing that. Well, *if* I do. The internet has taught me to be very careful about offering critique to people when it's not asked for given raaaaage reactions. XD
