  1. uhhh... anyone ever download a 3rd party game only to have the exe file never show up in your steam folder? Marry Christmas to me... $13 down the drain -_-

If you bought a game through Steam and the game isn't showing up it sounds like you should contact Steam support. For an issue like that I'm sure they can help, and when you get games you get confirmation emails and such so you should be fine. Sounds like a weird issue, but Steam keeps randomly breaking due to this holiday thing so I'm not surprised >>

You try restarting Steam? That's a simple solution that solves a fair amount of issues.

  2. I have to wonder how many lifetimes it would take to play every single game on Steam all the way through.

More lifetimes than I have in me. I haven't even finished the stuff I already have. If I ever won something like that I hope it's in a format in which the games are giftable, then not only will I be happy but I can make all my friends very happy too.

And someone else I know got their gift, and it was 3 free games in 1. Some Fallout package? So they got 3 Fallout games. Innnnteresting. I'm wondering if games will be common gifts one can get. And I wonder if they'll all be older games that don't cost much anyways, or if there'll be a Skyrim or seven slipped in there.

  3. Some coupons work from March 2nd, 2012 until March 1st, 2012.

I still only have -33% Valve when I should have got 3 gifts.. they never appeared.. I did the Orcs Must Die one plus people are supposed to get 2 for checking their inventory.

I had to go back and forth quite a bit from the gift page to my inventory to get it to act right and give me my free gifts. I have 3 coupons I'll never use now but can hopefully trade to people later who will put 'em to good use.

I'm hoping for coal since those are sort of like entries into their contest, and, well, that grand prize is pretty sweet. Winning all the games, ever. *_*

ETA: HAHA! My friend just did it and got Half-Life 2 for free! How awesome.

  4. I really liked XII, the gambit system was so much fun!

The story really was terrible though, so I can see why a lot of people didn't like it.

Also, although I didn't hate the soundtrack, I do feel like it was the worst of the series so far.

I thought the gambit system was really fun, myself.

The storyline was pretty simple, imo, but that's one reason I ended up liking it. I knew who my enemy was, I knew what my goals were, and I liked the lack of mushy gushy romance. I didn't have to watch Balthier trying to get it on with the ladies, and I didn't have to worry about a switcheroo at the end and fight some baddie I couldn't care less about. (Hi Ultimecia)

I remember being less than thrilled when I found out Uematsu wasn't doing the soundtrack but it actually ended up being one of my favorites in the series. It doesn't hurt that I'm a gigantic Sakimoto fan. After 12 I was so much more receptive to other composers working on FF music.

As you aren't into the FF12 OST, I'm curious if you like (or are familiar with) Hitoshi Sakimoto's work in other games?

  5. This rendition is not my thing, but if others like it more power to them. At this point I figure it's pointless arguing over which FF games were the best and what the glory days were. People are gonna like what they like.

I think Squeenix can still do something good with FF, as I've seen great stuff from them even after the NES and SNES era many love. Which I love too, but I'd go as far to say that FF 12 is my favorite of the series. I think they tried something different there and were successful about it. But trying new things with a series like this has its risks. Some will bite, some won't. I don't think the whole soundtrack is going to be disappointing though. For all the bad I've heard of 13, it's rarely regarding the soundtrack and I don't think it'll be different with 13-2's.

  6. While not a fan of the encounter rate, and while the battle system could use some work, I really enjoyed the story (and the way it was presented) of Ancient Magic: Bazoe! Mahou Sekai. I didn't think I'd like it much but ended up staying up all night just because I wanted to see how the story ended.

Didn't help I didn't like the ending much. >>; But aside from that I loved it.

I like Rudra no Hihou as well, and how you can play the game with the various characters who have their own goals and plots but it ties into an overarching plot. Stuff like that is usually really interesting to me. And seeing certain story aspects from a variety of PoVs.

But a game that really had an amazing story? Live A Live. One of the few games that had a twist that actually made my jaw drop.

Oh! And Bahamut Lagoon! I loved that! I think I'm a fan of the going against the empire theme, since that's sort of what Bahamut Lagoon is about. There's also a few twists in there too, and it's interesting to see how time changes people (I don't feel most games pull that off well), and have characters deal with internal conflict instead of "OH NATURALLY I LOVE THE PROTAGONIST, LOL"

Breath of Fire 2 had a great story too I think. A lot of people just don't realize that with such a shoddy translation. (I think FF7 might not catch quite as much flack it does if it had a better translation) There's a fantastic patch floating around online, thankfully, that remedies that. With it the characterization is done so much better, and the story makes sense. And the sad parts definitely hit me. I'm pretty sure the game's made me cry on more than one occasion.

ETA: Derp. Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together. I should be ashamed for not mentioning that.

  7. In before someone complains that threads like this exist.

There's quite a few game songs that sound similar. Like the forest theme from Breath of Fire 3 and the forest theme from Chrono Trigger, imo.

And there's music that sounds similar to non-vgm.

  8. P.S. Is there any usage rights on those pics (the dodge boobs one specifically) because I would like to use the picture on a website (project probably wont launch for 6 months but i like to plan things) and I would like to do it right. It would be used for something that i can link back to and give credit for the original content if thats what someone wants.

And i'm not sure even where to start or who owns the rights to it. Anyone?

I drew it, and I asked Kyle if he cared if it was used by another and he does not. Am curious about the website you want to put it on though. If it's nothing terribly awful and horrible I don't mind, no.

  9. Final Fantasy XII ended up not only being my favorite in the series (although I hate to try to compare it to Final Fantasy IV given the gap between the two) but right now it stands as my favorite game. Love, love, love that game. So glad I gave it a chance. I didn't want to at first, and even though my mom had bought it for me I was all >:( about it and set it on the shelf and refused to touch it for months, hahaha.

  10. Dalaran was terrible back in the day. Soooooo laggy. I'd avoid it whenever possible and usually spend all my time in Silvermoon taking care of business. Now I'm stuck in Org taking care of business. :s I miss Silvermoon. *sigh*

I have one main and a billion alts, although I'm working on trying to level a priest on Norgannon so that can be my alliance server. Don't have much in the way of PvE gear going on with my main since I'm pretty terrified to try to queue up for instances at 85 nowadays. People are so mean. :(

  11. Such clean linework hoooow?

I think it came out really nice, and am particularly impressed with the linart of the latest, barring that... face. XD

What are the dimensions of the original and what size is your brush/pen when you do lineart?

I'm not really picking up boy vibes from it either. I guess the padded shoulders might add some androgyny and her figure (more pear-like than hourglass) isn't a figure type I often see illustrated, particularly in anime styles. It's usually hourglass or way too heavy on top. I like that it's not cookie cutter or conventional though.

  12. Was really looking forward to it, bought it ASAP even though it meant getting a stupid Steam account, then it ended up not working. Failure.

Back to Minecraft and WoW I suppose.

  13. It looks interesting, though obviously MC inspired/cloned/ripped off.

My one complaint is i wish they used an original design for at least the characters/sprites.

Sprite recolors in a Minecraft clone does not spell a lot of originality

Borrowing an element from a game doesn't make that game a clone.

Sprites seem to be changed up a bit in the new trailer - I think the previous ones were just placeholders.

  14. Okay. So my computer should be clean since I just reformatted, however gmail alerted me that some IPs in China have been accessing my email. Nothing has been sent from it however, and I changed my password and will probably be changing a few more. Seeing as my computer is clean some people seem to think it's related to the hacks since that's the email I had attached to PSN.

Just saying it might not be a bad idea to change your email passwords, or keep particularly vigilant about it and what's going on with credit cards and bank accounts.

Memorizing new passwords is gonna suck. ><
