  1. First: wow, that Portal sucks. I didn't think that was possible.

Second: why would you take a diamond pickaxe into the Nether? Netherrack mining is lightning fast with as little as stone. Actually a cheap pickaxe and a Flint and Steel - and maybe a couple of buckets, if you want lava - are all you need.

I was going in on Peaceful and assumed I wouldn't die.

  2. My BFF got me Minecraft recently as an early birthday present. It is the most fantastic-est game evar. Unfortunately while I can play Singleplayer just fine I disconnect on Multiplayer all the time so I don't really do that atm. Which is a shame because I wouldn't have minded checking out the OCR server. ^^

Does anyone here do Minecraft skin art?

  3. I also will post a message (that will probably be deleted). At least I would, except Youtube has the funny habit of not allowing me to post anything. I can't ever seem to figure out why that error message comes up (it's not descriptive, either - it's "error, try again").

Is it in messages you post entire address in? It does the same to me, you can't include the http:// stuff.

  4. Amano's Art is the type of stuff people either really love it or hate it. Very stylized. I'm a fan myself, but I do agree translating it into CGI as literally as they did for the Anthology didn't look very good. What they did with his work for Dissidia however looks fantastic.

  5. I thought these kind of threads weren't allowed in this forum? Back in the day you got a lot of shit for creating a favorites-thread.

I didn't really create it with 'favorites' in mind. Like my initial example, Mario 3... I think it was a huge improvement over the first game and sort of opened up the way for future Mario games. Is Mario 3 my favorite Mario game though? No. Is it one of my favorite games evar? Honestly no. I just thought it was a good example without being all about "zomg my favorite games!11"

  6. I've never played a Silent Hill game but they strike me as the closest thing to 'scary'. I've read thorough plot descriptions and analysis and the story seems pretty gripping and I enjoy it. (I've just never bothered with the games because FPS aren't my thing. Ugh)

Anything else seems... lame to me, which disappoints because I'd *love* to find a good game to actually scare me. Closest thing was probably Wizardry V when I was a kid...

I remember recently there was a game I read about that was supposed to be really scary. I don't remember the title. So I found some gameplay footage where the main character encounters a monster. I expected the monster to FLY over there when he saw him and start wailing on him, but that wasn't the case. The monster slowly shuffled over. Then hit him every few seconds. Slowly. While the guy breathed heavily. It didn't have a sense of urgency at all and even if you were playing the game and it hit you out of nowhere... okay. Um. So? There was no sense of danger to it.

I suppose there were parts of Shin Megami Tensei 2 for SNES that instilled moments of.. dread, sort of, and there were some creepy parts for sure. But nothing really fit in the 'scary' mold.

  7. I thought the Worst Game Sequel thread was pretty interesting. I like seeing what's important in a game to other people. And it's fun to reminisce about terrible sequels. Even if hard to pinpoint the worst one overall, you can't deny there's a lot of them.

Which got me to thinking about what sequels did it *right*. What sequels went beyond its predecessor(s) in awesomeness.

A big example that pops into my mind is Mario 3. The first Mario game isn't bad by any means. It's a classic, and can still be fun to this day. However, Mario 3 blows it out of the water in my opinion. It takes everything that was great about the original and greatly expanded upon it. You don't just have 4 stages per 'world' anymore, you have many stages in a world, different paths to choose, and the worlds are themed and less generic. There's items you can collect and a lot more powers to wield.

And who didn't love the giant world!?

  8. Obviously you Brawl haters don't know bout hacking the game, as this makes the game more fast paced, not to mention being able to play Zero, Travis Touchdown, Cloud and others :/

Fact: Cloud is playable in every game.

But worst sequel is pretty subjective, just like favorites. Try telling FF fans your favorite of the series is 12 and not 6 or 7. :| It's like covering yourself in raw meat and prancing around a hungry bear.

I admit that FFX-2 had some good aspects to it. The dress sphere thing wasn't terrible and the battles were fun, however, the story was terrible enough to be really offputting to me. Some people don't care about the story because they're just interested in the gameplay. That's cool and to each their own, I just felt FFX-2 negated the story of FFX and story is really important to me in a game.

Kinda like Star Ocean 3. The gameplay and battles were so fun, but when I hit some of the ... plot twists, I ended up losing all desire to continue onwards. I just don't know whether I'd say it's one of the worst sequels or not... I have heard bad things about Star Ocean 4 as well.

  9. I didn't realize it was an indie thing, myself, which does put some stuff in perspective. But she's still putting herself out there so she's going to get criticism, from people here and from others. That's just a (sometimes very unfortunate) fact. You do something, you're gonna get judged on it on the internets.

Although I think some people (in general, not here) need to cool it. She *is* just a kid so there's such a thing as going too far.

I heard her sing in an interview without auto tune, and while I'm still not moved or anything she sounds better without the overuse of auto tune. Why they saturated the song with auto tune is beyond me.

  10. This is some pretty awful stuff. It didn't sink in until I saw the before/after pictures. Even the green of the earth there is charred and marred...

I don't think this was posted, but there's a person app finder you can use to try to look up someone, or to post information about them: http://japan.person-finder.appspot.com/?lang=en

It seems pretty handy if you're missing a relative, or for what it's probably used for more, looking up your favorite Japanese celebrities. I'll admit I looked up Nobuo and LeC and Sakimoto and others.

The facebook stuff doesn't surprise me at all, frankly. Saddens me a great deal, but it's not surprising...
