  1. I think this is definitely the halloween track for OCR....very spooky, very jarring (in a creepy way). The low piano really carried that whole jarring feel very well. I may have to check out psychonauts now......
  2. This is definitely a very interesting arrangment. Very dynamic, very moving; particularly nice piano work. Good direction, good overall sound. I didnt like how the beats were mixed though.....there were parts that were better than others, but the filtering effects seemed kinda out of place and the beatwork was really bare/exposed at some areas. Everything else was really on point for me, but the beats were a bit disconcerting.
  3. I loved the take on this theme.....very driving and energetic.....and the drops are exceptionally calm and serene. The sinewave of intensity is what (among other things) makes this such a fantastic arrangement. The different stylistic elements fuse together to create a seamless soundscape, everything is distinct, yet cohesive. Defintely one of my favorites of the project.
  4. That intro background synth sounds a little too gritty (saw-like) to me. Otherwise I like your synth choices and the effects you use. That background sound as the song ends just sounds staticy though...I would get rid of that completely. If you're going for trance, you're lacking some of the key elements of the genre. Firstly, like Rayza said, the tempo is unusually slow for trance. Also, trance kicks tend to have more presence, particularly in the bass. As far as arrangement goes, this is very creative. It definitely doesnt sound generic or too repetitive to me. You really interpret the source, but I can still clearly hear the Sky Chase in there, so kudos to you on that. Refine this some more, and keep up the good work.
  5. I do wish there were more fluid transitions, but I think its somewhat compensated for by the overall dynamic, mood shifting feel of the piece. Annd I agree with polar in that it has that action bgm feel, but I think that makes it especially unique....I havent heard too many video game remixes that sound like they could be ambient video game music. The remixer's skills in video game music clearly shine through this track, and it makes his work stand out as individual...greatly looking forward to hearing what he produces next.
  6. The production is impeccable. The soundscape is amazingly full, and the synths (particulary the high-end ones) are both constructed and EQed to have a very heavenly, bright feel. Honestly though, I wish there were more unique arrangement of the source. It sounds like very generic, repetitive trance, especially when compared to some of bLiNd's other stuff, even as far back as Meteorave.
  7. Cool arrngement, I definitely like your interpretation of it. I also like how the piano was recorded; has a very airy, but warm feel to it. Towards the middle-end the harmonies really got complex. I wouldve liked to see that kind of interpretation earlier on, but I guess it wouldn't have had the same effect if it wasn't gradually led up to that level of complexity. Wonderful stuff!
  8. I can definitely see the attention to detail in the synths/leads that djp was talking about. Clearly very nuanced and refined. Still, I'd have to say I prefer some of Prot's older stuff over this. Even though the production was slick and the arrangement was driving, I didn't feel quite as much intricacy or complexity as from some of his other works....
  9. Absolutely loved the use of game SFX.....the piano break about 1/3 of the way through was one of my favorite parts of the piece. Good texture, great dynamics. Loved it.
  10. This is definitely a powerful trance remix...very driving and full of energy, almost to a fault. The soundscape got a little too thick and somewhat abrasive at points, but I suppose thats where a lot of the energy of the track comes from. Not bad stuff at all though, you definitely know how to make a song hit hard!
  11. Beautiful piano..though notationally simple, it really carries the sweet, dreamy tone of the original alongside the hard driving electronica. And I love the gradual build up over the course of the song, culminating into an explosive, jam-packed soundscape. Excellent.
  12. Cool idea....interesting so far. Update when youve got a couple minutes finished : )
  13. I am completely unfamiliar with the source, so I can't tell you how they compare; I'm critiquing this as a standalone song. Right now your ideas are pretty cool; this is definitely very chill. I think your drum processing could use work; the hi-hat/rides are almost piercing, and the snare sounds kinda weak. The crazy effects towards the end are a nice touch. This is still really young at this point though; I suggest tacking at least another minute or two on it before you can expect more detailed feedback.
  14. I'll only comment on the arrangement itself, not the sound quality: I think the biggest thing that stands out to me now is how you have a relatively long silence for each song transition. If this is gonna be a medley, you'll want to use varying transitions that really weave the theme together; right now it just feels like you're randomly hopping from one to the other. Also you alternate between using the source verbatim and being really liberal (at least in the last two songs, I couldn't identify the first). It sounds good, but I think you could more effectively apply your own interpretation throughout each entire piece, even if its only slight variations to the harmony. I liked what you did with the Choco/Mog dance theme towards the end. In short, keep developing this, but be very aware of how each theme leads into the next.....if you have to change the order of some to make it fit, then change it. If something doesn't seem to fit at all, maybe its best not to use it. Transitions are really what make or break a medley. Good luck : )
  15. Agreed with OA...to me the percussion is really the icing on the cake for this mix. I also agree that the ending could've been better, but overall the song is really nice, and carries a pleasant mood to it. Nice work.
  16. Chiptune's really aren't my personal style, and I tend to have a hard time getting into them. At least I did before I listened to this : ) Your effects are wild as hell, every time I felt like you were about to go overboard you brought it back into a constant groove. Sweet harmonies all throughout. Loved the call and response 1:26-1:33. The build up around 3:40 was particularly nice too. This is the first song I've liked enough to save to CD since TEEM.ROKIT sometime back. I definitely look forward to hearing more of your stuff in the future.
  17. This is definitely very emotive......intersting to hear a softer, more gently moving form orchestral piece that still maintains dynamic contrast. Loved the ending as well. All around good work.
  18. Very pretty intro.....In the next section, the brass hitting the low notes in the beginning sounds synthetic to me, like a saw-wave. Not sure if it is a synth, but you could probably make it less exposed with EQing. Orchestration is moving and dynamic. It ends in a very tense place, I feel like there should be more to resolve the song. Not sure if u were planning on adding more, but I would recommend it. Great stuff so far.
  19. Definitelly harmonically complex and creative. I really didnt find the source that hard to detect, but I can see why it would be given the significant changes to the original melody and complete revamp of the chords. Some of the filtering early on was a little different to me, but overall the mix is good. And even if it does deviate significantly, its certainly a testament to the remixers' arranging and productive talents.
  20. Its almost paradoxical how the song conveys both isolation and happiness simultaneously. One of my favorite mixes from the project.
  21. Definitely loved the transition from the quirky/cheesy chiptune into the epic orchestration. Well done arrangement overall, though it left me wanting more than the 3:19 given. Excellent stuff : )
  22. Excellent work. The instrumentation is great, and the mix flows naturally and energetically. The transition into the bowser battle theme was particularly smooth. Good piece all around.
  23. This is a remix Ive been at on and off for the past two weeks. Its based on the Forest Interlude theme from DKC2. I wanted to make the song more upbeat and kind of happy-sounding compared to the more mysterious original. Ultimately I'll flesh things out a bit more in certain areas as more ideas come along. Heres the remix: http://lightningrt.googlepages.com/SugarcaneForest0.0.mp3 And this is the source: http://lightningrt.googlepages.com/ForestInterlude.mp3 So.....lemme know what u think : )
