  1. So we've had a week of a break from OCRMVC, and now it's time to start on OCRMVC4! I don't want to wait too long to get started on it because I personally still feel very inspired by the awesome videos in the last viewing party, and I don't want us all to lose that energy. I'm really excited about the music video idea I had last year that I never did and I want to do it this time, and I plan on starting the storyboard for it soon. But before I start a new official thread for the challenge with all the details, I wanted to open up a discussion. Now that we've done a few of these, it might be good to have some feedback from our participants and viewers. In particular, I want to know two things: how you feel about how long the challenge should be, and what we can do to get more people involved. We've tried deadlines anywhere from 2 months to 4 months, did you feel a difference one way or the other? And it looks like we've had roughly 6 entries in each of the challenges. Do you have any ideas on how to promote the challenge more and get more people involved? I will share my thoughts on this. I personally don't have a strong opinion on how long the challenge should be. However, the next music video I was planning on making will be quite involved and it would probably help me to have more than 2 months to work on it. That's just me though, I don't know how involved your projects will be. The other thing is that for the outfits I have in mind, I'd def. want to film this in spring because it will be too damn cold in the winter ; As for promotion, well I had meant to make a Facebook event for the viewing party last time, which I would have done if the past 3 weeks hadn't been so hectic. I don't want to do that too far in advance though, because then people will just forget about it. I like having a signature banner for the challenge. And maybe we can talk to other people connected to OCR, such as OCAD, to help promote the challenge and encourage participation as well. One more idea I had was that I plan to post pictures of my music video process as it's coming along. Seeing other peoples' videos has been a large inspiration for me on my own video(s), so I thought maybe we can encourage and inspire each other by showing some works in progress. Of course, if you'd rather keep your video secret until the grand unveiling, that's fine too, but I'm just saying I personally plan to do that for my own video. Anyway, I'm open to any more ideas you have for promotion and getting people involved. Also, let me know if there are any thoughts/concerns/whatev about any of the rules and guidelines. Otherwise we will just carry on as usual! Wow, this became really tl;dr. The short version: Please share your feedback about the OCRMVC!
  2. Well I had originally been planning to, but this has been a very crappy/busy past couple of weeks. I'll still try to finish what I started in the next few days, though.
  3. Huge success!! I think this was everyone's personal best video yet. I'm so proud of everyone because I can see the progress you are making as video makers. There was some really beautiful stuff tonight. I really wish I'd made a video now, but I'm def. excited/inspired to do that video idea I've had forever, for the next one. Here is the chat log: http://www.diotrans.com/random/OCRMVC3chatlog.rtf Great job everybody, and thanks everyone who participated or viewed the party for making it such a success!!
  4. Here are the videos!! PLEASE QUEUE THE VIDEOS BUT DO NOT PLAY THEM AT THIS TIME! We will be watching them one at a time at the viewing party on IRC. We are doing this to give people enough time to queue the videos in HD, then we can watch them at the same time without waiting for people to queue them. JH Sounds: Analoq - sonik metro Chernabogue: Kingdom Hearts Desertion Chernabogue: Donkey Kong Country Nostalgia Modus: Fille Nature: Above the Sky http://vimeo.com/19098762 setzertrancer: Ascention to Cosmo Canyon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAsQfq1A9GI Analoq: Read the Sine
  5. How about you just remember that I'm psychic next time and then from now on it is assumed? .)
  6. Oh right, I meant to mention that. I have an IRC client set up to log the whole thing as usual .)
  7. LOL. I didn't watch them. I just know they are that awesome .)
  8. Viewing party info: irc.esper.net #ocrmvc Today, Sunday January 23 @ 9 PM EST Follow the thread here: http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=31973 We have some great music videos to watch, please join us on IRC for fun and discussion and watching the videos together!!
  9. OOOOOOK. Viewing party info: irc.esper.net #ocrmvc Today, Sunday January 23 @ 9 PM EST So far I have 2 videos from Chernabogue and 1 from JH Sounds. Please let me know if I have somehow missed yours or send it to me again. EDIT: I now have a video from Modus and setzertrancer each. That's 5 videos in total!! Keep 'em coming! Unless there are any major objections, I think what we should do this time is at 9 PM I will post all the links to the videos to this thread so that people can queue everything in HD. Then everyone is on their honor not to view them just yet, but we'll give it I don't know, 10-15 minutes for everything to queue, and then we can watch them all when I announce each of them one by one in IRC. Again, sorry I took so long in getting this organized, I would ordinarily be more on top of things but this has not been a good week for me. Please let me know if there are any more question/concerns/etc.
  10. Sorry I have been a little MIA lately, people. I had the week from hell last week, with getting the flu and being bedridden for most of the week, then Palpable/Vinnie/my boyfriend getting really sick and I have been taking care of him for the past few days. Blah blah blah excuses, I know. More detailed information coming really soon, like within the next half hour. I'm going to go through all my messages and get everything organized.
  11. diotrans is my internet name that I've had ever since I was like 14 or so. I used to write a lot of fantasy stories with weird character names that I now cringe at, looking back on them. There was a character named Diode Transing because I don't know, I thought it would be cool for a girl to be named Diode. Diode was crazy and the whole point of her existence was to go around and make things more confusing for other people and basically create chaos. It's probably a good thing I switched to diotrans because before that, I was known as PsyCrow, from Earthworm Jim. Man I was a really strange kid.
  12. So since MAGFest ended, I've been listening to this a few times, and I can't help but feel that it is so fitting for me right now, with MAGFest being over. I was instantly interested in hearing this remix because I enjoyed "Morning, Thinker" so much. This remix is amazing too, and I'm very impressed with AnSo for being able to take the source in two totally different directions and giving them both the deserved effort to make them both sound so awesome .D Beautiful vocals, Jill, and one thing I think you do really well that shows in this piece too is the harmonies and atmospheric sounds in the background, they just really help to fill out the sound and make everything sound so lush. OK I'm going to go listen to this on repeat and now... Goodbye Thinker, and Goodbye MAGFest!
  13. Yay, Planet Earth is awesome. Can't wait to see it, setzer .)
  14. I'd be down for that. It'd sorta be like MAG last year with the fancy schmancy NYE party.
  15. I am really fricken sick from MAGFlu, and have been sleeping through most of today. So this may not be all that coherent, but I wanted to write my thoughts about MAGFest while I'm actually awake for a short while. Srsly it was awesome to see everybody and hang out. The biggest highlight for me was hanging out with Alexander Brandon and finding out that he is a close personal friend of Andrew Sega, band member of my favorite band, Iris!!! Totally made my weekend. Other highlights: - all the jam sessions - getting to perform with OA, Stevo and Connor for the OCR panel - "It's not pogs, bro" - randomly showing up with Vinnie in our fancy attire between the ceremony and reception of a wedding we went to the same weekend - some good heart-to-heart chats with people - oh and I was SO HAPPY a giant trip was organized to Busboys and Poets and that mostly everyone seemed to like it because that is like one of my fav restaurants - the after-MAG party at Stevo's I did not like: - the parking and elevator situations. This happened to me too, when a bunch of guys yelling something about theshizz crammed into an already too-crowded elevator, not to mention this was horrible for my already aching back. I wonder if these people were associated with the people in the link Wes posted, or the same people. And now I am like super sick with the MAG Plague but whatev, it was worth it. <3 you, MAGFriends!
  16. Oh hey, as long as we are suggesting restaurants, one of my favorite restaurants in the area is not too far from the Hilton. It's called Busboys and Poets. It's vegetarian/vegan-friendly (and they serve meat as well), and they have a focus on social justice, incl. a small fair trade market/bookstore, for people who are into that sort of thing. It's in Shirlington which is an area that has a lot of other good restaurants, and might be a good place to do a group meal. Shirlington is right off of 395, at exit 6 I believe.
  17. Oh crap .( From MAGFest's Twitter: "Pre-registration is closed and MAGFest is OFFICIALLY SOLD OUT. NO BADGES WILL BE SOLD AT THE DOOR." I hope you are able to find a badge for Jenner!!
  18. I hadn't even thought of that. We like to keep the videos a secret until the viewing party to give it more impact and specialness. But I understand the problem of uploading and then later setting as public. Would you strongly object to uploading shortly before the viewing party, like a few hours or a day before? That way we can still keep it mostly secret but then all your fans will see it too.
  19. MAGFest has always been in Northern Virginia as far as I know, well at least the past few years it has definitely been in Alexandria, Virginia. They may change hotels for next year because the attendance keeps going up, but I think it would stay in the same general area.
  20. It looks like the MAGFest schedule is up! http://courtwright.org/magfest/schedule/ And the OCR panel is at 4 PM on Friday? Hooray, I can go to the panel!!
  21. All right, I thought about this a lot, and I have come to the conclusion that it doesn't really make sense to do a viewing party at MAGFest. I think it would have been really neat if we could have gotten a panel and been on the convention schedule and had a room with a projector and lots of random people stopping by to check out the videos. But because we weren't able to get a panel, the only thing I could really do is have an informal gathering of people, and I don't even know whether I'd be able to get enough people to have a viewing party. It's really too bad that pretty much all of the people who made videos and are involved in the challenge won't be at MAGFest, because if that were the case, I think it would be totally worth it to get together and just have our own party even if it was a small gathering. But being that the people who made videos won't be present, I feel like me getting a group of people to watch all the videos in a hotel room lobby would be like having a birthday party without the guest of honor. So I'm very sorry to anybody who is disappointed by this. However, we will be much more prepared for this next year, and now we know we have to submit our MAGFest panel early. Being that the viewing party will not be at MAGFest, I guess let's have it the weekend after, at our usual Sunday 9 PM time? So that would be Sunday the 23rd. Good luck everybody!! I can't wait to see your videos!
