  1. Hello OCRMVCers and fans! Get ready for yet another way-too-long post by diotrans!! So I'd like to start off by saying that I'm proud of us for running for almost 2 years now, and having collectively come up with so many OCR music videos. Thanks to all our participants and fans for keeping this going! I do have to say, however, that I feel that there has been a drop-off in participation and enthusiasm in general, with this last challenge. It's great that we had so many videos, but I'm a little disappointed that we only had 2 contributors. I am not really happy with the way that I have been running the OCRMVC. I am normally a conscientious and organized person. However, this has been an extremely challenging year for me, and a series of events in my personal life that started many months ago has consumed all of my energy and left me unable to focus on even my own personal creative goals. As a result, I have been unable to give the OCRMVC the attention I feel it deserves, and I feel that it has suffered as a result. While the entries in OCRMVC have mostly been solo entries, I still view it as a collaborative challenge, and believe that the energy that the participants have put into it has fed into itself and inspired others. In other words, the more people we had that were really into it, and were vocal about their projects in the thread, the more that inspired others to start and finish their videos. I think that's a really great thing. However, I am finding I no longer have this energy to put into the community, at least, not at the moment with everything I'm struggling with. So I would like to say that I would prefer not to run the OCRMVC anymore, and I don't think that I should. I think it would do well to have somebody with more energy, who can not only organize but also keep people inspired and find ways to bring the energy back into the challenge. On the other hand, if me stepping down is going to cause the OCRMVC to stop altogether, I would rather just keep running it the way it has been going, rather than to let it die. So, 1. are there any takers who would be interested in taking over running the OCRMVC? 2. if not, then I will volunteer to at least continue keeping up the rudimentary functions of maintaining the thread, and scheduling and running the viewing party. In any case, whatever happens with the OCRMVC, it will always have my support, and I will still be around in the thread, at the viewing parties, or if somebody else ends up taking over and has any questions for me.
  2. setzer that's horrible ;_; ;_; I can't believe they would even let you do something like that without some kind of undo function or warning. That sucks. Let us know when you upload the vids again.
  3. It's true it wasn't really a music video for an OCReMix, but then, some of our entries kind of bent the rules a bit. I have more thoughts on this, later on I'll write a more in-depth post. For now, I'll leave the link, unless anyone strongly objects to it.
  4. I was at home in Clifton, VA, and it was very strong and loud. The whole house was shaking. It was scary because I was on the 3rd floor. I immediately did what they say to do in an earthquake, and stood in a doorway, even though I felt that would do little good while I was on the 3rd floor. But obv, everything was fine. As the sound was dying down, I heard the sound of water gushing. I thought perhaps a pipe had burst or the washing machine or dishwasher had exploded or something. I ran downstairs even though the house was still shaking, thinking I may have to turn off the washer or the water. When I got to the 2nd floor, I saw that a bottle of rum had fallen onto the counter and was dripping everywhere. I rushed to clean up all the glass and was late to work as a result, which kind of threw me off my balance for the rest of the day. I guess you could say I was... shaken by the earthquake. And then I came home from work and still spent a long time trying to get all the little shards. The horror!!!
  5. Thanks everyone for another successful and fun OCRMVC!! Here is the chatlog: http://diotrans.com/random/OCRMVC5chatlog.txt
  6. You guys, we have 6 videos this time! All from 2 participants. Great job, setzer and cherna. Thanks for your hard work, we really appreciate it, because without you guys this would literally not exist ; setzertrancer 1 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_smmgLYzWU setzertrancer 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KP-OZeMbaoc chernabogue 1 - chernabogue 2 - HD not necessarychernabogue 3 - chernabogue 4 - http://vimeo.com/27668056
  7. First post updated with IRC viewing party details. I have 4 videos to show. See you there!!
  8. Well, I usually prefer not to extend a deadline, unless it looks like we will gain a lot of videos as a result, and we don't disrespect/piss off too many people who worked hard to get to the deadline. In this case, it doesn't look like we will gain many videos from an extension. (Sorry Modus, but also the fact that you said you would need a lengthy extension factored into my decision here; if you could have come up with something in an extra week, that would make things slightly different.) So unless this thread suddenly gets a whole bunch of people absolutely promising that they could finish some videos if only they had another week or so, then we are on for the viewing party this Sunday, and I hope to see more than just the one link to a video in my inbox between now and then. >.>
  9. Very interested in "Making Money Making Music (No Matter Where You Live)" and possibly more, have to think about it but wanted to reply before it gets claimed .) EDIT: OK just realized you said 2 book/person minimum, so... I'm also interested in This Business of Music Marketing, but it looks like that one has been claimed, so in that case, I'm also interested in NOLO Music Law.
  10. Little over a week left! I have only received 1 video so far, though it looks like Chernabogue has also finished one. How is everyone doing? Are we going to have more than 2 videos to show at the viewing party (please)? ; Not that I know of, though we're not really claiming songs this time around. So it's fair game.
  11. Happy birthday Dave!! Lookin' forward to partying hard at Otakon
  12. I also demand it! Thank you everybody for piping up and keeping this thread alive ; How's everyone's videos going? To setzer: So err, between all you good and bad news, do you have any OCR videos? ; I don't think we can really bend the rules to include MLP videos at our viewing party, as cool as that might be, but I think it would kind of defeat the purpose of an OCRMVC and trying to promote OCRs through MVs, etc. However I am very happy for you that you are getting more publicity now, and of course glad that we were a part of you getting your start. That's all pretty awesome.
  13. Hey, I've thought of starting a thread like this before. Glad to see it has actually been started. In my experience, when at Jamspace with random other people, it has been useful to know the chords and melody to VGM "standards": Dr. Wily works very well as a jam, Chrono Trigger stuff (Schala, Millenial Fair, 1000 AD, etc.), Final Fantasy (Terra, Prelude, etc.), etc. Thought it would be neat if people contributed their ideas of what popular VGM songs would be good to know for jamming so that when we all go up there with random other people, we have something to pull from instead of spending forever dicking around and trying to find some nonexistent common ground.
  14. Heh, what a coincidence. Happy early fireday, Brushie + wildfire!
  15. OK! Bunch of letters from Wes. You guys, I think he really loves hearing from us, so please send him some love, either in this thread (which I will continue to print out and send with my letters) or directly to his address, which is in his letters below. Sorry for the delay in posting those last two letters which were from a couple of weeks ago, Vinnie was away in Japan and we didn't see them until now.
  16. Nono actually I really love the accent, I think it adds to the charm of the vocals .) And I just realized that I didn't really mention it in my original comment so I'll say it here, that I think the vocal delivery was awesome and you were def. the right singer for this. I don't have enough of a producer ear to say for sure, but it's possible that the vocals in some parts could have been taken up or EQed to bring out the frequencies of the consonant sounds (or other stuff EQed out of the way of those frequencies so they don't get drowned). Singing-wise, I would say that over-emphasizing the clarity of the consonant sounds will help in making sure the words can be understood. I'm sorry this turned into such a technical analysis of the vocals when really I only had a minor criticism ; Honestly I do think overall they were awesome. But since you mentioned you might work on it again, I figured I'd share my 2 cents in case it helps.
  17. Yay, it's good to see this get posted!! Nice work to everybody, I can tell a lot of hard work went into this. Amazing that a collab across the internet with so many people can have that live-band jamming feel. I definitely love the arrangement, the lyrics, and the energy of this. A couple of minor criticisms: I would have had difficulty knowing what the lyrics were without reading them, so either the ennunciation or production on the vocals could have been better to make them clearer. I think it is especially important in a song like this, where the words are so critical to the meaning of the song (and so amusing and clever that they deserve to be showcased prominently). The other criticism is that the timing was loose, but I don't know how much that is even a bad thing, I think it fits the feel of the live music vibe. Other than that, yes, it was brilliant .)
  18. We look forward to it! It wouldn't be OCRMVC without you! ,) Noc: We look forward to yours too, and if you still have something salvageable from your previous efforts, feel free to finish it up for this. Or start something entirely new.
  19. I will be attending as both a nerd *and* a chick in skimpy outfit. How's that?
  20. I was gonna say *points to sig*, but looks like it already got a mention. (Thanks, JH!) Did want to pipe up to expl that it is "indie electro-pop" so you have an idea of what the style is, but I guess the sig accomplishes that. Music by diotrans and Palpable. Also, has Jillian Aversa been mentioned? I think both of her solo albums are fantastic: http://jillianaversa.com/category/solo-albums/
  21. Updated the thread to list participants (and reduced the conditional statements). Also: where the heck is Setzer??
  22. Any more messages for Bahamut? .) I'm going to print out this thread again and mail it to him in the next day or so.
