OverClocked ReMix Rock Opera Project- Need musicians!
ambinate replied to DjSammyG's topic in General Discussion
Sweet. Well, I doubt there will be a shortage of guitarists, but in case there is, I'm certainly available. -

So is the music going to be original, or arrangements of video game songs? -
Chrono Cross - Dream of the Shore remix idea
ambinate replied to ambinate's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I haven't checked the thread in a couple days and it got a bunch of replies - nice, haha. Thanks a ton for all the feedback, and all the positive comments. It's very motivating. I'm still working on getting a decent mix for the distorted electric guitar part, but I think the song is going to have to be put on the backburner for a little bit because I start school this week. Once I'm settled in I'll get back to work on this. Deathbyspoon - thanks for the tutorials! They're really informative. You mentioned sequencing drums in Reaper - do you have any guides on how to do that? I downloaded the program and have been learning it, but I don't know how to sequence in this or any program, really, haha. Thanks. -
Yeah, I think I might be screwed, 'cause I think my soundcard is on the motherboard, just whatever one the computer came with (SiS 7012, apparently).
-
Haha, yeah, I dunno, sorry...when I go to inputs under ASIO at the top, it just has "None" checked.
-
Thanks a lot, I checked out MiniHost but I'm having some trouble with it. I don't know how to configure it so it recognizes that I've plugged my pod/guitar in, and when I play with that MIDI keyboard it has, I don't get any sound.
-
Do you know a free recording program like Audacity that can?
-
Pirate metal is the bomb, as is Star Wars metal.

Thanks a lot for the replies and recommendations so far, I'm gonna start checking it out. I found Ishkur's Guide, and holy shit! I thought metal had gone wild with genres and classifications, but this is a new level.

This is in fact a thinly veiled attempt to find out what music really is in the digital age.
-
I dunno, man, wouldn't this be like asking for good bands to start with in any genre? Like if I had said "I wanna start listening to metal," people could say Sabbath or Metallica or whatever...unless I'm misunderstanding something here.
-
Ah, I see...thanks a lot for the help. I didn't realize they were VST plug-ins. I downloaded GuitarSuite and tried using it in Audacity, but it just crashed it, haha.
-
Can I use the pod to send the dry signal to the amp sim software? 'Cause I use the pod to connect to my computer with usb, since I can't plug my guitar into my soundcard.
-
How does this type of software work? I connect my guitar to my computer through a Line 6 pod which connects via usb...would I be able to use GuitarSuite or any of these, or do they only work direct into the soundcard? Also, how does recording with them work (as in, how do you get your recording program to recognize that you're playing through this software and then record it)? Thanks, I've always been really curious about this stuff.

God damn, this is good!

I'll be honest, dude, I don't really know shit about this type of music, but this just sounds really cool to my ears. I think the lead synth sounds you're using are great, and that dual solo is wicked. Again, I can't speak from a knowledgeable standpoint on this, but I'm really enjoying it. That little fuzzy hiss in the intro before everything comes in is suave. Damn, I'm saving this.

OCR01407 - Castlevania "Wicked Six"
ambinate replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Damn, am I the only one that really digs the organ sound on this? I've always thought that kind of an organ went really with distorted guitars, and big scale runs sound so fucking slick on it, but maybe that's just me. Either way, this is a really cool mix that's a lot of fun to listen to. It's not particularly heavy, and is more in the realm of 80's metal like was said before (like 2 years ago or whenever), but it sounds good. I'm sure every Castlevania song ever written before the PS1 came out has been covered as a rock/metal song, but what the hell, it sounds cool and vampires totally listen to metal when they're not eating people. -
Thanks a lot for the help! The thing with MIDI bass is my soundcard sucks, so I don't know if I'd be able to get a decent sound if I went that route. I've never tried anything like that before, though. But as far as the lo-fi sound and it being mid heavy, does that mean if I toned down the distortion a little, removed the delay, and carved out a spot for the bass guitar (whichever way I decide to put it in) by EQ'ing, it'll start to sound more clear and less like it's coming through an old radio?

Chrono Cross - Dream of the Shore remix idea
ambinate replied to ambinate's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Hahaha, yeah, I know, I don't plan on keeping the reverb on all of that stuff. It's just a preset tone I downloaded from a site that has tons of reverb already on it and I haven't changed it to a more reasonable level yet. -

ambinate replied to ambinate's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
No love for guitar remixes? I realize the production is heinous, but the ideas are kind of audible... -
I'm not sure how to check that kind of thing to see where the problem starts. Maybe it's the tones I'm using, but I can't tell for sure. Maybe if I can figure this out and fix it, it won't sound like I recorded this shit in a forest.

Kentucky Fried Cruelty (aka SMB Peta version)
ambinate replied to NeoForte's topic in General Discussion
This game sucks. The controls are clunky, the story is weak and underdeveloped, the character development is laughable, and there's no gameplay variety. Replay value isn't even worth mentioning. No online co-op? This is 2007. You'd think they'd at least have some downloadable content planned; in this generation, post-release support is downright expected. Not recommended/10.
