Just beat the last Bowser earlier tonight. Playing the game is worth it BECAUSE YOU GET TO PLAY AS SOLID SNAKE AT THE END

Infinity is such an awesome fucking album, I can't even handle it. Really looking forward to his next pair of Devin Townsend Project releases. Addicted was a lot of fun.

finished SUBMITTED: Final Fantasy 7 - The Planet is Dead
ambinate replied to Nekofrog's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
This is really fucking cool. I'm a big fan of the source and I totally wouldn't have expected it to be arranged this way. I don't know if it's just my headphones or an issue with tindeck or something, but there's some clipping when I listen to it during the loudest parts. Not a big deal, though. Good luck, dude! -
finished Saria's Song/Lost Woods from Ocarina of Time
ambinate replied to JZ Wafflemelon's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
This is really cool. I like the overall aesthetic a lot, and the sound/instrument choices you made work well together. Nothing really stuck out to me as being particular grating or like it needed more EQ, but that's just me. My one issue with the song is that it wanders a little. Personally, I think it takes a little too long to really get going and doesn't really stick to one groove long enough. 6 minutes is a little on the long side, in my opinion, and since this isn't really straight trance, it can be harder to justify a long length. I dig a lot of the ideas here a lot, but I think there might be a way to condense the entire thing a little bit, as I think that'd really bring out some more energy and keep the momentum going. Really nice work overall, though! -
Not to be a dick or anything, but saying that Schoenberg wasn't musically minded isn't exactly accurate. He was really skilled when it came to music theory and its applications (I think he taught it?), and the main reason why he was able to create a system that deconstructed tonality was because he knew so much about theory in the first place. He didn't just write music that "didn't sound good," he wrote music that explicitly twisted the rules that had been in use for a few hundred years. Without a thorough understanding of theory, he couldn't have done all that. But the basic idea of learning from the ground up - going from intervals to scales, then to chords, then to bigger harmony in general - seems to be a pretty good approach, and that's how most music theory courses are taught, I think. You might already know about some of this stuff, like intervals and scales, from playing your instruments, so you might only have to review some of it. Learning about chords, keys, and the relationships involved with all of that has helped me a lot in writing music, and even a basic knowledge of that kind of theory can be really helpful.

OCRO-0001 - Kaleidoscope Original Soundtrack
ambinate replied to djpretzel's topic in Album Reviews & Comments
I haven't played Kaleidoscope but I absolutely love this soundtrack. I really admire the work that was put into keeping each song unique while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic, and I think it pays off in a huge way. Admittedly, I'm also a big fan of "bells and mallets," but I find the style used here to be really vibrant and charming while still allowing for a diverse emotive palette ("Malevolent Mysteries" gives me chills). Maybe I'm a sucker for minimalism and ambient music (just kidding, there's no "maybe"), but I think this is excellent work. I'll be listening to this for a while. -
apparently i really can't because no matter how many times i click this goddamn thread and listen to this song it tells me this thread is unread

OCR01705 - Xenogears "Babel: A Prison of Fate"
ambinate replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Somehow I completely missed this one. I heard it for the first time a few minutes ago and I love it. Beautiful, expressive playing. Really fluid, too. It helps that the original is one of my favorite pieces (from one of my favorite soundtracks), but this is an excellent remix, either way. -
That is some gorgeous music. Do you know who composed it?
-
I don't know but the first piece in that clip is wicked cool so if you find out I'd love to know.
-
I really wanna try this game out but I'm worried that I'll get really frustrated by rubber band AI like in Mario Kart. It looks wicked cool, though.

Oh, man. I would've never been able to figure all that out, haha. The bitcrushing was done in Logic, too? Thanks a ton for all the information. I really appreciate it, since I'm trying to get a decent start with the program now.
-
I see where you guys are coming from, but I don't think the game conveys or presents any of that information too well. The script just isn't strong enough, in my opinion. Hope's dialogue is pretty terrible and I never really formed enough of a connection with him to care about all the miserable stuff that happens to him. He doesn't get a whole lot of development before they just start throwing traumatizng, emotional scenes at you, which makes them fall flat. The game as a whole is really guilty of this, I think. A lot of melodrama without much foundation or development.
-
Wow, really? Were you using the kits that come with Logic? I just started learning how to use Logic but I have no idea how to make glitched out stuff like that.

could you please just not enjoy games that other people don't enjoy. for everyone's sake. please.

56 stars help i can't stop
-
This is really fuckin' cool. What program(s) did you use to make the song?
-
I got it today and I'm about 9 stars in so far. Absolutely incredible. The first Galaxy is easily one of my favorite games of the past 5 or 10 years, so I was really looking forward to this. It's definitely exceeded my expectations - the amount of gameplay variety in the first few levels alone is excellent. The score is fantastic, too. Some of the most fitting music I've heard in a game in a long time, and it's great even on its own. basically i have a big boner for it

I was at Best Buy picking up Mario Galaxy 2 when I noticed that the first DVD of Kai is apparently out already. It's only got the first 13 episodes, but apparently Goku and Vegeta are already fighting at that point. That's pretty quick. I'm looking forward to this.

Nah, it's not redrawn, just cleaned up and remastered for HD viewing (along with the edits for length). They rerecorded the vocal work, though.

I heard about this when it first started airing in Japan and I'm actually pretty excited to see how it turns out. The clips I've seen look and sound great, and the idea of watching the series in about a hundred or so episodes is really appealing to me. Like DarkeSword said, the manga reads way faster than the show, so it'll be nice to see the two come closer together. Plus, I have a big soft spot for this series, so having any excuse for it to get another 15 minutes of fame is something I can get behind. I mean, I saw Dragonball Evolution in theaters on opening day. There were like 10 people in the theater. Terrible. Dokkan dokkan! GoGo let's do it!

Your thoughts on chord progession generators?
ambinate replied to Drayzon's topic in Music Composition & Production
it's nice, but i don't understand why you need a generator. it's just i-VI-VII. that's the right one. -
I'm not really feeling it. (I'm sure people have said all of this before, but I like complaining.) I actually dig the battle system and enjoy that part of it, but I don't find the story or characters interesting at all. I just got a little bit past the part where you finally reach a real overworld and I'm having trouble finding the motivation to keep playing because I'm so turned off by the story. I don't inherently have a problem with the more linear gameplay style, even in comparison to previous FF games. I think it could work if done properly. I just don't think it's done properly here. The pacing is pretty awkward and I felt like I was being rushed through the first 20 or 25 hours, which was sort of uncomfortable. It's pretty, though.
