  1. My old nick, Avenius, came from the random name generator in the game Tibia. My current other nick, Skadred, popped into my mind when I had to conjure up a name for a LOTRO character. The game was said to have lutes and such, so I figured he'd be a skald/bard. And finally, Skummel Maske. I came up with that when brainstorming for a new band name with my old band, and it's norwegian for "sinister mask". A silly name, yet it sounds alright to anyone who doesn't know the language. Rawk.
  2. Ooh, I like what I hear, especially the part from The Landing. I'm unsure about the shift to dorian myself, but at least it does work.
  3. Yeah, I remember Pirates Of Dark Water. I loved that show. I also loved Knight Rider, A-Team and MacGyver. Now I can't sit through one episode of either.
  4. Solar Jetman! Thank you! I've been trying to find that game again for so long, I played it when I was a kid and couldn't remember its name.
  5. Hm, interesting. I'm in the middle of reinstalling everything on my computer right now, which means my computer will be busy transfering 40gb of data from my laptop today. In other words I probably won't be able to test until tomorrow. But you've given me a very positive impression of Live.
  6. I'm almost surprised that this hasn't been mentioned yet, but Shatterhand is a wonderful game. Maybe it's got a special nostalgic value to me, but I fired it up again a couple of days ago and still think it's as awesome as I did back when I was 9. And the music, ooh. I want to remix some of the tracks.
  7. I got an M-Audio MIDI-Keyboard for christmas, and there's a program in the bundle called Live. Or, Live Lite, really. I've looked it up on wikipedia, and it looks pretty nice. Do you guys have any knowledge about it? I mean, I'm just starting out, and I'm using Cubase. How is Live compared to Cubase?
  8. That's pretty nifty. I'd love to be able to search for e.g. guitar-driven tracks to see how others have solved x, arranged the instruments against each others, or just to explore the different users' guitar sounds.
  9. The info I've got is what I've extracted from Aida32. Unfortunately it didn't seem to be able to detect certain things from the Fenrir machine. I'll hook it up and try again as soon as I'm up to date on the posts here again ..jeg kunne jo spurt på hw.no også ja. Buying a brand new computer is out of the question though, as I've got three computers right now and two of them run new/semi-new games fine. I prefer console games to PC games anyways. Who knows what Warhammer Online and Age of Conan might change though.. [Edit] Aida32 can't detect the name of the motherboard. It specifies the ID as 08/12/2004-Springdale-6A79AFK8C-00. Any suggestions?
  10. I tried to revive my old remixing PC thread for this purpose, but I suppose a new thread for it would be better. I've got two decent computers going, but I'm planning to swap hardware around to optimize one of them. I've got the small stuff covered, except for the fact that one of the motherboards seems to have a weak memory module that doesn't accept my 1024mb ram (I've got two of them, in fact). The main differences are the FSB speeds and memory module. Since the CPUs seem to use the same socket type, I plan to use the most powerful one. Aida32 tells me it's a dual core or 2 CPUs or something along those lines, how do I confirm exactly what it is? Oh, and in case I didn't state it properly: I want advice on which motherboard to use, and perhaps information about their strengths and weaknesses. Link to my comparison table. Thanks.
  11. I'm reviving this thread, though for a slightly different purpose. I've decided that my audio PC is alright for now, and just need help building one computer out of two I've got standing around. I've hastily copied the system info to my blog, because it's late and I've got work early tomorrow. Please have a look and share your thoughts. Remember that this is going to be a computer focused on gaming. Blog link 1 - Fenrir Blog link 2 - Cerberus Thanks again, guys.
  12. I got an M-Audio Keystation 61 es. I also got The Devil's Backbone on DVD, Spanish For Dummies, and a scarf. That's pretty much it.
  13. Oh, this is very interesting! The Assault Of The White Dragons is one of my favourite tracks. I'll listen through it as soon as I get my sound up and running again..
  14. Aw. After watching the trailer I've really gotten in the mood for Duke Nukem again. I want a full version of the revisited theme!
  15. The credits were in japanese, so I couldn't quite make it out.. Anyone happen to have the mp3s lying around?
  16. That was awesome! Do you know where the remixes are from?
  17. I guess they've got the cogs turning this time? It's not as if I'm getting my hopes up about this game anymore though. I won't take them seriously until they release a playable demo
  18. Yay! Christian Bale is a great batman, and I love the way they've pictured the Joker here. I dislike what they've done to the batmobile, but I guess they've just made it practical
  19. Really, Fishy said it all. Pratchett getting alzheimers isn't just a personal thing, because it affects his work as well. His books are really wonderful.
  20. Kanthos, that was a very educative (is that the right word?) post, thanks alot. And guys, I'm not planning to buy a brand new computer, at least for now. I've got a total of three computers right now, where one is what I suppose is basically a low-end gaming rig (it runs UT3 fine). Then there's this one, and one that's currently stored at my father's place in Oslo, which I will pick up sometime this month. After what I've heard, I think I could just take the sound card and hard drive from this one and jam it into the new one. It still won't be a dual core or anything, but at least it's newer than this. I think it's a Pentium 4, with a higher clock speed (which doesn't matter as much anymore?). New RAM is cheap, so I think I can easily invest in 2gb. I could always set up what's left of this one to be a fileserver.
  21. Why I hate on my Inspire? I think it's just because the control panel feels to basic, and the bundled software left alot to be desired. I wanted more control over sound environment than what it offered me. Maybe being that negative about it is a mistake though.
  22. Oh, motherboard. Doh. Celeron is outdated now, eh? I'm not really up-to-date on hardware anymore. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-8SGXL, which is a special build of another one, after what I've read. Especially made for stock PCs by.. Fujitsu, Dell, HP, something like that. I had a hard time finding any information about it, really. I don't know which of the FSB stats that matter the most, so I can just as well list them all: Bus width: 64-bit Real clock: 101MHz Effective clock: 406MHz Bandwidth: 3244 mb/s
  23. Uh, um. WMD drivers? Mobo? I suppose mobo must be the external sound card (if it can be called an external sound card)? So, my computer. Yeah. My CPU is an Intel Celeron, with an original clock of 2400MHz (according to Aida32). As for my RAM, I've got 2x 512mb and 1x 256mb pc2700 unbuffered DDR SDRAM. My sound card/box is a PreSonus Inspire, which doesn't feel very customizable and is basically just what I could get on my low budget. My 13ms latency was before I'd activated any VST instruments, on the indicator in Device Setup in Cubase. And yes, I'm using the ASIO driver. As for my usage, I usually start by writing tracks in Guitar Pro, then I export them as midi, and then import them to Cubase. That way I can just mute the midi tracks I'll be recording, and just play along. I don't have a midi keyboard yet at any rate. Considering the specs as of now, is my computer decent for a DAW? Except for the Inspire, perhaps? I'm pretty sure I will get more RAM, but anyways. And thanks for the input everyone!
