  1. meh id like it loud enough. i think what i have is pretty good. thanks guys!
  2. Of course not! That'd be stupid. Actually I have a widener on the master track. Thanks for the plugins. Out of this bunch, you got any favorites? Chances are Im gonna try them all anyway. Soon as I figure out how to get em to work with audition. Through previous experience I find that I'm plugin-impaired. EDIT: Nevermind. Good ol' manual never lets me down. well, almost. I tried the leveling ampilifier but that just seemed to make the clipping sound smoother. Yes, you read right. Instead of a crunch it's more of a crackle. Then I tried the Pocket limiter which seemed to work better but the volume fluxuates. Im not too experienced with these kind of tools. I'll keep toying with them. Thanks a lot, Zeph.
  3. I have a feeling this question has been asked before but I cant seem to find it in the search. Comparing the loudness of my track with others on ocremix, i notice that I cant get mine as loud without clipping severly. Looking at waveforms, they don't seem so loud. but after getting everything recorded and getting started on mastering, I can't seem to reach a dB level that's satisfactory without BZZZUZZUZZUZHUZUZUZ. What factors matter here? Could it be my soundcard? Im using an Audigy 2 PCI card. What about the DAW? (im use Adobe Audtion) Or is there some kind of rule of thumb when it comes to such things? So far I've used compressors and hard limiting but that seems to be not helping much except make the track more stereophonic. Especially the multiband compressor. I love what it does but it still clips. Thoughts?
  4. I was gonna take a pic or two then post. But then I saw everyone else's posts. I got nothing. Really. All i have is a custom built machine, a GearBox, a couple guitars, a crummy cheap dynamic mic, and a drum machine that no matter how much help i get I cant get to fricken work! I WANT ALL YOUR THINGS!!!!
  5. I thought dithering helped get rid of little clicks and pops when mixing down. Or is that what you meant? Or am I way off. Sorry. Haven't been to school in a while. Cant wait to go back in Feb.
  6. is there a way to import the drumkit into FL? This EZPlayer thing doesnt have much of an editor. I cant make my own beats with this thing. I just has already made samples that you can put together.
  7. yeah i keep doing that. i keep reinstalling it but i cant seem to get it to stop scrolling like 50 pages down with one turn of the moust wheel or click of the down arrow on the scroll bar. And it aint my mouse. already checked. EDIT: Um for anyone who has this particular program, do I require a controller for this? I managed to get Reader working and the manual doesn't mention a piano roll or anything. Does this mean I can just point and click?
  8. I have the manual but having a hard time navigating the PDF. Somethins up with my Adobe reader no matter how many times i download and reinstall it. im just looking for the piano roll. is it in the Superior solo or the EZ player?
  9. Actually, using the Gearbox, I have a setting where the mids are turned all the way up! Post EQ i used a parametric EQ and gave it a boost at around 200hz by about 12db. (if im reading Audition correctly) I got some great crunch out of it.
  10. I was wondering this myself. I need a good controller too. Though I dont think I need more than a 25 key controller. More would be good. I have another question for this thread. What's a great card to plug it into? Someone made a great recommendation before in another thread but I can't seem to find it.
  11. Momentum seems key. I just worked on this track today. got about 4:30 and realized i didnt like my guitars rhythm distortion. (its a rock track) i re-recorded the rhythm with another distorted setting and realized i didnt like that one either. This is killing my progress. Either im too picky (which I believe there is no such thing in this line of work) or i gotta go through all of my Gearbox setings and sounds until im satisfied with it. And for those of you who own a Gearbox should know, there's TONS of head/cab combinations to choose from. Im running souly on caffine and i got the jitters. i could crash at any momen- *crash*
  12. Thanks for the reply guys. Yeah I've been coming back to the track im on. going between it and GTA4. I've actually managed to get it up to 4:33 and have an idea on how to end it. (Its not a remix by the way). I've been on this track for over a month and a half now. I normally don't take this long to get a single song done.
  13. LOL IM SCARED TO DOWNLOAD THAT. i can read music and all. but to have nothing but music nots on my screen will hurt my brain
  14. you guys use seperate machines? wish i could afford that.
  15. no im not talking about a particular DAW or anything like that. I really mean focus. Have you guys ever had a problem focusing on a track? or even had "writer's block"? I keep having this issue. I'll start on a song and get about up 1:26 done. Then i won't know what comes next. A week later I'll finally add another minute to it or so and then stop yet again. Anyone else get this problem a lot? if so, how do you go about dealing with it?
  16. That's kinda what I meant. First tries never sound good. But with some dedication in tweaking...makes the difference.
  17. This entire way of life doesn't sound good out of the box. Takes a good mixer to make it kick ass. Too deep...?
  18. I got the software only version of Guitar Rig. I previously bought the Line 6 Gearbox and have the Toneport that came with it. Could I use the Toneport with Guitar Rig as opposed to the controller that it's suppose to come with? scratch that! I got it to work! but the latency is horrid! Anyway to make it better?
  19. That's crazy talk! 27,000 bones?! CRIMENY! I just listened to a demo of the GPO and it sounds fricken amazing for 300 clams! I figure that will get you by just fine if you can afford it. While the best is definately always a want, decent is a definate need.
  20. HA! That's totally true. I had a co-worker hear me talk about her from 3 rooms away at work. Door closed. Scary sh*t! But really. If you want headphones great for mixing, I imagine keeping the price at LEAST above a hundred. Chances are you'll get awesome quality. I have yet to buy an expensive pair of headphones BUT there arent any 100 dollar headphones with crap quality. ...... ummm...are there?
  21. The only time you scoop mids, in my opinion, is if you want that Dimebag sound. (Pantera). Cowboys from Hell is an example. I'd go with a Metallica Black Album sound personally though. Maybe even Zak Wyld.
  22. well if you go outside and step away from your Barbie NES game remix you might hear some!
  23. haha i never said it was a good thing. And dynamics? what do you mean by whatever happened to dynamics? you hear dynamics everyday! lol
