  1. ah, you can always tell an analoq fan by their complete lack of shame.

anywho, i'll give you a quick answer:

i do like the Mackies. i can't say the 624s at home are spectacular after using the 824s in a studio.

but considering every pair of monitors under $1000 are compromised in some way, they are impressively unforgiving in their representation of your mix. (i.e. way flat)

the MKIIs should be even better in this regard, i got mine before those came out.

i'm sorry i can't speak on behalf of the Dynaudios, i've never auditioned a pair.

    cheers.

  2. yeah, the pool was at Trenthian's.

JJT switches over to the piano while analoq gets his vocoder groove on. The longer I stare at analoq sitting in this chair, the more I'm convinced that he's crippled.

hahahahaha... larry, make this my photo on my remixer profile.

i'll never get a bad review again if people think i'm-- err i mean, since i am a handicapped musician who needs a breathing tube. woe is me.

awesome pictures, GT. this certainly captures the look and feel of the west-coast scene (for better or worse..)

    cheers.

  3. there might be something free out there, but i haven't looked.

however i can recommend some solutions cheaper than Battery:

    iZotope iDrum - $50

pattern sequencer + trigger + samples & sequences

    LinPlug RMIV - $150

drum synth + trigger + samples & sequences

i own both and they're both very good at what they do.

    cheers.

  4. At the moment I have four TRS inputs and I don't want to spend this money 1) feeling like I downgraded, and 2) closing the doors on future project setups where I might need multiple line-ins

if you're not using them now and aren't going to need them soon, you're probably never going to need them.

    i 'downgraded' from a MOTU 828 to a Yamaha GO46 and i am a happy camper.

    edit:

Nicholstein .... do you have any idea what you're talking about?

  5. wrong, you don't need a condenser mic; dynamic mics are great for recording horns. above claims about dynamic responsiveness should be ignored as well as they are way overstated.

really, your pre-amp is what's going to make a big difference in how hot a signal you can get. the SM57 needs a strong pre-amp, and those dinky USB things tend to be underpowered.

that said, your recording doesn't sound bad. realize that the sound of your sax is different right out of the bell than what you hear while you're blowing thru the mouthpiece. just throw your bread and butter (compression, eq, reverb) on it and mix your other tracks accordingly -- you can make it work.

  6. i owned a PCR-M80. it's a fine Roland synth-action keyboard. i prefer the joystick to separate pitch/mod wheels. Virt owns one as well, i believe. my only qualm is that it's ugly-looking.

don't buy an Axiom just because of so-called "semi-weighted" action. best thing to do is drive out to a music store and see what feels better to you -- don't rely on marketing terms.

other than that, it is nice that the Axiom has integrated trigger pads. i had a Korg padKontrol that i liked, but it was hard to find desk space for it.

  7. Since I can't seem to log in

i made some changes to the session subsystem so that it won't keep making you log in. are you still having this problem? there were some hiccups but it's been working fine for me and apparently Nutritious.

i uploaded your official entry regardless, so you have nothing to worry about either way.

  8. that is certainly a point of view i can sympathize with.. i work full-time or longer so the only way i can participate in ORC or PRC is by making a token effort.

'course my music is admittedly lo-fi regardless, but i do try to avoid the 1-hour OLR DoF stylings when possible. ah well, a shitty compo is better than no compo at all.

  9. Great video! I always get a kick out of watching people perform in their home studios. More please!
Very cool there, Analoq.I do hope you come out with more in the near future...

i haven't checked on this thread in a while, just want to say thanks !

i do hope to have more YouTube ventures in the future.
