Yeah i'm in the too liberal camp. There are points where I can here the source in the vibs. There are some minor tuning issues in the bass I think, but the performances are good imo. I am going to give a bit of credit that the source is clearly in here imo - the chords are there and the source melody is in the vibs - the problem is they are in the background. If the trumpet had any source connections at ALL i'd be much happier, but I'm just not convinced the source is dominant enough. It feels like its a liberal remix being solo'd over. Sorry, I really like this but I just don't think the connection is quite there. NO (resub)

The next round starts when the voting ends. Yeah, we said before hand that anyone who didn't sign up can't be voted for. That was the point. Can't really go back on our word now, its not fair on the other contestants i'm afraid -

I am extending the deadline for those people who aren't sure if they'll manage to produce something on time... Lets say 2 days. That gives you all the weekend. Get me something good by Monday 5pm EST! Also, could people please send their tracks to me for the time being? Kristina is too busy with personal business to deal with the compo right now. -
Albums - Are they worth it?
WillRock replied to AngelCityOutlaw's topic in Music Composition & Production
Music is ultimately subjective and it speaks to different people in different ways. If something seems "half-assed" to you, even if you wrote it, other people may love it. There are a LOT of instances of famous bands not liking their most famous songs. Robert Plant apparently hates Stairway to Heaven. Freddie Mercury said in an interview he felt that Somebody to Love was a more complete and better composition than Bohemian Rhapsody. Jon Bon Jovi even fought to have Livin' On A Prayer as an unreleased song entirely, because he didn't think it was that good, but the rest of the band told him it was a hit single. Thats my favourite song Def Leppard had a personal decision to never throw away an idea, even if they didn't like it, because they knew someone else might. The point is you can't know what other people will like so its worth releasing everything, at least for a test drive. In my experience people have come back and told me that my best remixes are ones I now hate with a passion, even ones that I feel I've "half-assed" . Its all a matter of opinion in the end of the day. As for releasing albums. It depends. You don't only need a goal for your album, you need to know how to promote it. A masterpiece of music creation will not get anyone listening if you don't promote it well. My plan was to get known for game remixes and gradually work my way into doing original music, so i'd have a fanbase when I started - but even that isn't enough I've found, you usually need to find sort of label to promote your music for you. Ubiktune worked for me. So... artistically, working on an album is worth it. However, if you want to earn some money, spend some time on promoting it, and do some research. You'll ultimately come out the better for it. -
Brandon, you had the perfect opportunity to haggle for 2 shows. You have missed your chance now. Tis a shame.

I'd just like to say that I am fully 100% in support of this. Great idea

Ok, so I was talking to Pete Lepley about mixing for a Project M theme track he's doing. He's been told by the devs that "mixing on a console is awkward" and he has to mix it in a certain way otherwise it will sound weird when they mix it into the game. They have not said what causes this, I can only think they must change the sample rate or something similar to that. I've not heard of this before and doesn't really make much sense based on my own experiences with writing music for game/film where people have not asked me for anything out of the ordinary mixing wise. Also, it seems very strange to ask for a specific type of mixing because it will sound different (worse) when they put it in the game. How can you even know what to do to it to make it sound as good as possible? Should it even be your problem if you're not the one mixing the track into the game itself? It all seems very odd to me. Does anyone else in the know have any insight on this topic?

Er... yeah we didn't. Brandon. I hadn't even thought anyone would do it full stop, I assumed that since no one else was doing it, people wouldn't be shameless enough to actually vote for themselves. That said, I don't REALLY see why it shouldn't be allowed, other compos have done it and no one else complained then... -
