No, I sent a YouTube link too. For all of my entries, actually. Personally, I'm a bit surprised they chose the one they did, considering the two I sent afterward were quite a bit better imo. Really, I think being picked for being the disc involved a lot of different criteria. It sounds like they were trying to get a lot of different themes and genres covered, and I think having a long song might have kinda had an influence on their decision as well; mine was only 3:20, which is modest, but a 5-minute track takes up a lot of real estate on a 70-minute disc. Having a remix that encompassed two themes probably helped quite a bit in my case as well. Just speculation of course, I don't really know what criteria they used for choosing the tracks. Apparently, they're done sending out invites for the remix disc, but if they get a large enough number of people that can't send in the necessary info, they may approach some others, but vibe I'm getting from the email is that I wouldn't hold my breath on that.

I loved it. Great run-and action, nice visuals, awesome soundtrack. Played through it God only knows how many times solely because of its fun factor, and not a lot of games make me do that.

World 8's not too bad. But World S8... -
Sounding much better. I am noticing a bit of clipping in some places, notably when some big crashes happen, like the one at 0:13. Bass might be a tad high. It's nice and clear as far as tone, so I think turning out down a bit to make it a little more level with the rest of the instruments would do this mix some good, maybe help out a bit with some of that clipping. Not by much; Maybe 1 or 1.5 dB. The outro seems a big sudden. It sounds like it's going for a ring-out and fade, but it just kinda drops. It feels awkward. Other that that, this is a damn sexy mix. I'm sure the mod that checks this out will find a few more nitpicks, but I think I touched on the more noticeable issues. This is pretty close to hitting the front page imo.

Mikeaira has a tentative claim for that source. Maybe I could persuade you to choose another? I'll let you know if it frees up.

Some of 'em, apparently. Did anyone else in this compo that submitted their tracks to the Music Tribute get that email?

Alright, you're down for Stage 1. Welcome to the party, CJ.

Stirring the pot: The analog vs digital debate
DusK replied to Majiffy's topic in Music Composition & Production
As far as rock goes, digital can sound damn good, which makes stuff like Line 6 and M-Audio great bang-for-buck, but if you have the cash, nothing beats a great tube amp recorded through a good mic, or a live drum kit recorded on a good setup. -
Searching for Instrumental Rock / Metal Remixes
DusK replied to Guilty Gear's topic in General Discussion
What, were you looking for examples? Here's my Red Zone remix and my Shinobi III remix, both slated to be posted to OCR eventually. There's also my Sonic the Hedgehog EP. There's also my four submissions for the World Warrior Remix Royale, which can be found in the music section; these ZIP files also contain several other rock remixes by other remixers like Brandon Strader and OA. As far as recommendations, you've listed just about everyone there is to be recommended. There's Tuberz McGee (very undersung remixer imo, he's pretty good) and sggod, they don't seem to have been mentioned yet. -
Updated the OP with some more info. Still plenty of awesome tracks to claim!

This sounds like it'd be right up Orangedragan's alley.

Searching for Instrumental Rock / Metal Remixes
DusK replied to Guilty Gear's topic in General Discussion
I would have recommended myself, but it seems you're already subbed to me on YT. So, thanks for that. EDIT: Wait a sec, no you haven't. In that case, I recommend my stuff. /shamelesselfadvertisement -

Alright, we're getting some tracks claimed. Gettin' the ball rollin'.

That intro string section is a bit soft, and the drums are a bit too loud. The mix overall feels a bit absent in the mids from 0:34 to around 1:15, which is a stark contrast to the sections that have other, non-rock instruments which end up filling out that frequency range, like from 1:15 on for a while. The strings starting around 1:30, the ones that are panned to the right a bit, sound like they're dropping off suddenly when they end, which makes for an odd sudden volume drop. I'd give those a bit more sustain. You palm muting there is very loud, too. I'd suggest cutting around 250Hz and lower for those parts. You'll likely also find that doing so gives the bass a little more room to breath as well. The mix gets really quite around 1:44 to 1:56. Dynamic is nice, but that section is too quite imo compared with the rest of the song. For the most part, your lead guitars are clashing with your rhythm guitars and drowning them out, almost to the point where it sounds like it's just a lead guitar, bass, drums, and a bunch of fuzz. It might be a good idea to give your rhythm guitars a decent boost around 500-600Hz. That'll fill out those empty mids and give your rhythm guitars a little more presence in the mix, especially during lead sections like that solo at the end. I really like these drums samples. Toms sound like they might be a bit too loud, and the kick too just a bit, but everything on that kit sounds awesome. As far as arrangement, this could easily be a solid piece. Really, the only things I can nitpick about this piece are on the production side of things.

I did that with my first entry of the WWRR, but the sources were still identifiable. It can be done.

This would be good. Very good. A quick update: Turns out Dj Mokram was planning a GH project for a while, so we joined forces and he is now co-directing the project. OP has been amended to reflect this.

Well, it's 8PM. Grats to GLL.

I'm getting thoroughly Rex'd.

I'll take that as obvious, considering my main rhythm tone and my main lead tone are derived from the same base starting point and I have yet to change that. And I really should. Glad to have your vote!
