  1. I like shorter songs. I'd rather have 1-3 minutes of sheer freakin' awesome that I can enjoy listening to repeatedly than 10 minutes of Dream Theater wankery. Yes I said it, I don't like Dream Theater.

    Incoming! *ducks*

I listen to both. Frequently. My favorite bands are metalcore, and in that genre, you usually average about 3-4 minutes for a song. I listen to a lot of punk bands that have a good minute-thirty before the end up in the next song. And then of course there's stuff like BTBAM, who can only fit a so many 15-minute songs on a single album.

  2. A big problem I've had until recently is using the same tone for different parts of the music that are panned in the same location and not EQing it at all. An example can be heard

, where I had four guitar tracks running other than the main lead, two panned right and two panned left, same tone, no EQ, and playing different parts. Hear how muddy that crap sounds?

Also, the only monitoring I have currently is a $20 Logitech headset, so my production quality sounds muffled on many other setups as a result. Like Blue Magic said, that doesn't really cut it.

Also, check my Red Zone remix for a great example of massive production issues including extremely mechanical-sounding drums and over-compression.

  3. Call me a sucker, I guess. Must be the WoW player in me. I've purchased DLC for a few games. Always games I know I'll be playing long-term, though. Lately I've been passing up DLC I normally would have bought, though. Tough times and all that, not to mention more and more of my money going towards music gear instead.

I get the whole "you're not getting the whole game on purchase" argument, because sadly, it's true a lot of the time, though normally not to the degree of the example you gave.

  4. It would be as dumb as Microsoft taking all the changes that went into Windows 7 and packaging them as a service pack for Windows Vista.

I've actually heard more than one person say "that could have/should have been done". Not that I don't agree with you, though.

  5. DusK is a shortening of ItStartsAtDusK, a nickname I made a couple of years ago based on the fact that I did almost all of my gaming at night when I got off work.

My side project, From The Forest Itself, is inspired by a Matisyahu lyric, which was taken from a line from a Midrash. "From the forest itself comes the handle for the axe."
