  1. Double emphasized. I want mine before they're gone, this time. Because I'm in direct control of inventory, if and when a given size sells out, I'll do my best to restock. The only caveat to that is that I need to place orders of 144, so if a less popular size ends up being more popular than we thought, there might be a delay to wait for some other size/color combo to sell out as well. However, the delay will be nowhere near as long as what's happened in the past, I promise. As for updates - one, I'm considering putting news items on the homepage (in addition to their being alluded to in mix writeups) and two, we're working on a mailing list for OCR as well, which could include notifications of that ilk.
  2. Very doable, will implement shortly, seems like a good idea. There are problems with escaped characters whenever we pull data from PHPBB that I need to fix, too - this includes '&' and ''' and '"' appearing on pages that pull data from the forum db but exist outside the PHPBB application. Once I fix it in one place, it'll be fixed elsewhere, but sometimes character escaping/XML/XSLT can be tricky.
  3. I'm placing the following order based on the poll: 350 black 100 Medium 100 Large 75 XL 30 Small 25 XXL 10 Babydoll 10 3XL 100 white 30 Medium 30 Large 20 XL 10 Small 5 XXL 5 Babydoll 50 hoodies 20 Large 20 XL 5 Medium 5 XXL Hoodies were previously $30.00 and will now be $26.99 T-shirts were previously $15.00 and will now be $12.99. Both of those figures are pre-shipping, but are pretty dern good, relatively speaking. Shipping & handling, including internationally, should be competitive with other stores. Once the order is placed, it should take ~2 weeks to get the shirts; I need to check with eStarland, but they *should* be able to sell the shirts soon afterwards. If the specific shirt/size combo you wanted isn't included in the order I'm placing, don't worry toooo much. After we get things worked out in terms of online sales and see how this initial batch sells, we'll likely do another order to accomodate any inaccuracies. We do have to order at least 144 at a time, otherwise the price per item goes way up, so at that point we'd probably run another poll, similar to this one. I'll keep everyone posted - thanks for quick feedback with this poll.
  4. I like the mix too, but I couldn't just leave this here without objecting - have you even heard some of his other work?! It's all a matter of opinion. And, apparently, objecting to other people's ability to have one For what it's worth, of my 67 mixes, yeah, I'd put this in the top fifteen, possibly higher. So in my *own* opinion it's at least some of my "better" work yet. I guess maybe it's instrumentally similar to some of Gray's stuff, or more recently Andy's Fei Long mix, but I think the arrangement sounds like one of mine, and I'm personally happy with it.
  5. Confirmed - IE loses to Firefox on OCR. Thank god, frankly. IE7 may fix the ad problem @ 1024x768 or, if it supports min-width and min-height correctly, allowing me to try something else. I've got an MSDN subscription, and as soon as they give me Vista RC1, I'm doing a VMWare session for IE7 browser testing and Chipamp testing, too. Now, on to Dhsu's continued chiptune semantic concerns. I've got some options. One option is to not display the chiptune tab at all unless a chiptune (or something like it) is available for that game. As I understand it, the objection is to having a "chiptunes" tab appear for Morrowind, etc., but it's just as inaccurate for any redbook-audio only system (e.g. Sega CD) or what not. I could implement something at the system level, and only show the chiptunes tab when the system itself supports some sort of chiptune format (or close enough), but that'd be a problem, as many modern games for the PC would display a chiptunes tab, seeing as there ARE old Adlib, etc. formats for the PC that could count. The downside of not displaying the chiptune when there's no chiptune hosted on OCR itself is that there's rather large PSFs that we don't intend to host due to bandwidth issues, but then when viewing a game like FF9, people wouldn't see the chiptunes tab, and wouldn't have the links to Chipamp and Zophar's where they could get the PSF. Some of those same links are on the "links" tab, but if users expect files to be there... I *could* alter the database to include a flag as to whether the chiptune is local or remote, and just include links in the case of the big chiptunes we don't want to host. But that's all a lot of work. I'll discuss it with Larry - we're working on getting more chiptunes in more formats on the site. I've already added twenty or so, filling in the SNES gaps, in the last 48 hours. "Source Tunes" or the too-cryptic "Sources" would be misnomers if all you could find for games lacking a local chiptune on OCR was links to chiptune resources, which would be moot for games like Morrowind or Sega CD games, etc., so I'm not sure that suggestion really makes a lot of sense. Continued thoughts appreciated based on above info.
  6. Sorry you feel that way; I don't think your being "distanced to the site" gives you 100% credibility in determining what is or is not superior, however. The google ad in question was there prior to this recent redesign, and only creates layout problems in Internet Explorer. The horizontal space that the other, vertical ad takes up is WELL worth the tradeoff in vertical space that the horizontal ad across the top consumed, imo, and puts far more information above the fold. And, frankly, it's not really your place to tell me what is or isn't "necessary" in terms of modifying the site design. Regaining vertical space was in fact necessary to work better with vbulletin, for example, which chews up more header space than PHPBB. Perhaps if you spent more time here you'd be in a better position to understand the site's requirements.
  7. Wow, I'm... almost offended by that. Save that in this case, it was justified. I've *no* problem with your feedback on the mix, however incorrect I believe it to be, but you begin your review by saying you haven't downloaded anything in a year or two (point one), indicate that a single mix somehow represents how I've developed (point two), and then talk about how more people should check your mix (point three). Then there's the implication that the positive reviews to date are simply people sucking up - as if your disagreeing must mean that they *actually* agree with you but are too afraid to say so. Everything else was fine, and I actually commend longer, more elaborate reviews. In this case, I respectfully disagree, but nevertheless... it was the "sucking up" (as if people couldn't have opinions of their own) and other aspects that seemed, well... ROFLTASTIC.
  8. ROFLTASTICS... Well, you're entitled to your own opinion; zircon liked it well enough, so I guess he doesn't know anything about "making electronic music sound good" either. I strongly disagree with just about everything you wrote, and don't find much insight, except for the arrangement comments, which are more subjective (and positive ). I think the song's mastered fine, and frankly I find the melody pretty damn catchy, especially with the alteration. I've talked with people that have looped it ad infinitum, as I have, and I know I've caught myself humming the chorus several times the last month or so. Bottom line is, thanks for the suggestion to not pursue further electronica mixes, but I'm going to have to completely ignore it. You can claim that people are just "kissing my ass" when they like this piece easily enough, but Andy for one has no reason to do so, and the judges are the ones who vote on mixes, so kissing my ass doesn't really get anyone very far - that type of reasoning is as muddled as you apparently think my EQing is.
  9. "Source Tune" or rather "Source Tune(s)" *would* be more accurate, I'll grant you both that... so would calling the entire site "OverClocked Arrangements", for that matter. The rational for keeping "Chiptune" here is similar but not identical (although imo it *is* a cool word): I'm (we're) trying to build awareness of chiptunes and the chiptune community For this reason, I want to use the word as much as possible, in as many places as possible "Source Tune(s)" would actually be a misnomer for mixes that arrange songs from more than one game There are other options ("Chiptunes/Rips", "Original Tune(s)", "OST", "Soundtrack") that all have their own respective problems/inaccuracies Ultimately, I'd rather promote chiptunes and be inaccurate some of the time. The pure definition of "Chiptune" was already weakened when they allowed MODs that used nothing but very short samples. In other news, you can now download the chiptune, or whatever you want to call it, from the chiptunes tab. There's also the same links from the chipamp.org links page, for convenience (chipamp.org uses ocremix's dynamic javascript links, so they'll always be in sync). I do appreciate the comments, I agree in part, I gave it some thought... I reached the same conclusion I did before.
  10. Info about prices & what not hasn't been finalized yet; this is just a thread to determine how many of each size should be ordered. There are some pics at http://www.ocremix.org/info/Merchandise - we won't be doing jerseys this go-round, but they may be resurrected in the future.
  11. Yes - we're DEFINITELY doing a run of shirts. This poll is to make sure I don't screw it up and end up with a lot of sizes no one wants & conversely running out of the sizes that people DO want. Either way, there shall be shirts and hoodies, and they shall be sold.
  12. If you've already bought an OCR shirt or intend to once they are available again, we need to know what shirt size you are, so we get a good idea of how many of each size to order. If you've no intention of ever, ever buying an OCR shirt, there's no need to vote, but everybody else who either has a shirt or *may* get one in the future, we need to know your relative girths, pronto. Anonymous poll, so be honest
  13. That's based off 18 reviews; keep in mind that they do trade-ins, which few online retailers are willing to do, and that that likely increases the number of folk who might be upset because they didn't get $1000 for their scratched-up old Virtual Boy. http://www.bizrate.com/ratings_guide/cust_reviews__mid--66998.html That's based off over 2000 reviews... as opposed to 18. Plus I met with Chris Kong, the owner, personally, and know him from before they even had a website. They'll be selling OC ReMix T-shirts soon, if things work out, and I wouldn't be supporting them and affiliating with them if I wasn't confident it made sense. When the owner's willing to meet with you for two hours, sell OCR shirts, has an open bizrate affiliation that allows reliable user ratings directly tied to actual purchases made on the site, and the totality of over 2000 such ratings come out positive, I wouldn't call that "shady". Thanks for the comments though, and you're right to question anyone OCR affiliates with and bring any concerns to my attention - I have faith in eStarland and cite the 90% positive reviews (high for a shop that does trade-ins) as support, but appreciate the information nonetheless.
  14. ... and I ended up buying an Axiom 61, AKG C1000S, *and* pop filter. Yay for impulse buying... BUT, I use my Radium 61 all the time, miss having aftertouch, and vastly prefer octave switch keys on the far left, wheels toward the front. Plus those trigger pads just look FUN. C1000S can run on 9V battery instead of Phantom, which makes it flexible.
  15. Yeah, I'd feel like a shmuck plastering their links all over the site if their prices were higher, or if I'd never ordered from them myself, but they're not, and I have... Actually, I'm gonna go see if they have a good mic pop filter, I think...
  16. Valid question; currently using that space to emphasize activity on the forums, but may use it for announcements at some point. I *like* having the mix writeups read like an on-going, linear site blog of sorts, but certain announcements do warrant homepage status. Also looking at a mailing list for site news, etc. Whatever is done, I like having the gen disc. posts on the homepage & clearly visible, and don't want to get rid of them. Well, everybody *thinks* they're a designer, and many don't think through ALL the numerous implications of site design, ad placement, etc. when they make suggestions. Regarding more content on the reviews tab, I agree - perhaps even the latest three reviews, instead of just one, who said them, and when they were posted. You can get that from the thread, of course, but the point of the tab is to quickly sum up recent comments, so the extra space could definitely be taken advantage of. The chiptunes tab was supposed to have a link to download the actual chiptune, when available, as well as links to other chiptune players. It's still going to, it's just something I didn't finish in time and thought could wait.
  17. As many of you are aware, OverClocked ReMix is now hosted on its own dedicated server, paid for by ads, donations, and t-shirt sales. Zzounds.com has an affiliate program where OCR earns a commission if a sale is made when someone comes to their site from ours. They also happen to have competitive prices and fast shipping - I've ordered two Audiophile 2496s and a Roland mixer from them personally, as well as my Rode NT1a microphone. If you can find a lower price elsewhere, they'll match it - they have a lowest price guarantee that they take pretty seriously. Bottom line is, if you're making a large music gear or software purchase, we're asking that you consider them, and if you end up using them, be sure to visit OCR first and get to their site via ours - we wouldn't be affiliating with them if we thought it would lose you money, but if you buy something through them, it helps support OverClocked ReMix, and everybody wins.
  18. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. You guys are killing me. http://www.zzounds.com/a--925434/item--NINKOMPLETE2 Zzounds has it for the same price, and if you use that exact link (above), OCR gets a commission. Like $50. It's the easiest way to help the site out, you're getting the same exact price, etc. I wouldn't be pushing Zzounds if they didn't have competitive prices... please consider them when making these large purchases, and when doing so, when you actually do place the order, going to their site from ours could really help us out.
  19. I *tried* to point out in that initial description that some of the formats aren't truly "chiptunes", but ultimately this distinction is unimportant to the target audience, which is the average user who doesn't really care whether emulation or sample-playback is involved.
  20. OverClocked ReMix is no longer hosted with ZTNet and will not be continuing selling shirts via their store. I'm locking this thread; a new thread will be created in the next few weeks with regards to our new shirt arrangements. Some details: Shirt and hoodie prices will be somewhat lower than they have been previously The new distributor will still ship internationally The shirts are being produced locally in my area The new distributor is local to my area as well; I've met with him, he knows me, and he runs a relatively large online website that also sells games, consoles, and anime-related merchandise. He's oldschool, too. We will be keeping the same design indefinitely as the 'main' OCR shirt, but other shirts may follow For the initial run of shirts, I'm looking into doing bumper stickers as well I will start a new thread when things solidify, but I will be placing the order in question in the next few days. I apologize for the bad experiences some have had ordering shirts; I'm very optimistic that our new arrangement will be a significant improvement, and hope that those whose orders were never shipped or who had problems in the past will give us another shot.
  21. Zach/Brian - Saturday morning I paid for a dedicated server with LiquidWeb to host OverClocked ReMix on, and this morning the migration was completed. This move wasn't solely prompted by the intermittent downtime/issues with ZTNet preceding this date, but that did serve as something of a catalyst, as during those sorts of outages it's always been difficult to ascertain what was going on and when issues would be resolved, etc. Regardless, I feel that OC ReMix has grown into a site that necessitates not only its own server, but the 24/7 support, fixed monthly pricing, etc. that comes with a more formalized hosting arrangement. Quite simply, OverClocked ReMix would not exist had it not been for ZTNet. I would never have been able to get it off the ground, much less to the point where it is today, without your ad-driven but essentially free hosting services. I'd never have gotten shirts made without Zach's merchandising expertise, I'd never have learned what I've picked up about PHP, performance, MySQL, etc. if I didn't have the chance to consult with Brian, and beyond OCR, I wouldn't be as successful at my career as a software developer in general had it not been for my experiences working with both of you. There are numerous emulation sites that can also say basically the same thing - ZTNet's services have indelibly changed the face of emulation and of game music as well. You should be proud of the positive effect you've had; my decision to host OC ReMix elsewhere is less of a complaint or criticism of your services and more of an indicator of just how beneficial they are - that they can grow small sites into large, thriving communities. I've thought about ways to pay you back for everything you've done for me and for OverClocked ReMix; I'm sure we'll talk more about potential arrangements along those lines, as I know for awhile our site was losing you money, and that you kept us around regardless. Whatever we work out, know simply that the impact you've made on many people's lives by making OCR possible is monumental. I've had people email me telling me a given song literally saved their life, couples have played ReMixes at their weddings, and a boatload of developing artists have found a way to express themselves and improve their skills. These things have always motivated me in running the site; I hope they have a similar resonance with you in having made it possible in the first place. Thanks, David Lloyd PS. I'm posting this email in our forums so our users know what's occurred, but also so they potentially get a feel for how much you've meant to OCR the last seven years.
