  1. I love the part you added, it's really pretty!

I think the change is a little abrupt though. Try putting in a pause at 1:04 before having the repeating note come in. I think it would make it that much more powerful.

Also, from 1:18 to 1:32 I think the left hand could be doing something more interesting than what it's doing. The rest of it is really good, but I find that bit a little unoriginal.

Finally, I think it would be perfect if you extended the major part at 2:30 and went crazy with interpretation. I'm pretty sure the end is still too conservative for OCR and there's just so much possibility for that section.

Keep up the good work though, it sounds great :).

  2. Whoah!

Tristania is one of my favorite bands. This is so cool :).

I'm not sure I fully understand your post though. What exactly are the raw materials you need recreated? Are they mp3s? The band's songs? More information might be helpful if you want people to volunteer.

Good luck with the project though!

P.S. This also reminds me that I still need to play the game. I tried getting it to work a while ago and had some trouble. I'll have to try again.

  3. 2. Do not post multiple songs in the same thread. If you have more than one remix to post, make a separate thread for each (within reason.. please don't post 15 threads at once; yes, it has happened :<), and always state the game in the thread title.

I think the "please don't post 15 threads at once" part kind of over-rides that.

Besides I'm pretty sure those are just for the remix WIP forum; unless I'm mistaken, you're pretty much allowed to do it however you want in the originals forum.

  4. Man, I love these kinds of pieces, and I love this source too so this made me pretty happy :).

Really neat arrangement. I thought 5 pianos was going to be excessive but it doesn't sound cluttered at all really, so good job with the arrangement!

The samples need some work; apart from a few sections everything seems to be about the same volume. Adjusting the velocities will help it sound less mechanical.

The only other thing is that it sounds pretty cover-ish. I think it would be really cool if you were to extend it and add some more interpretation. The end is kind of abrupt too, so making it a bit longer might help.

Also, (this is probably just personal preference but) I think it would sound nicer if it was a little slower. Like maybe 10 bpm slower?

I'm really interested in seeing what this sounds like when it's finished though!

  5. I wondered what was up when I saw that iTunes thought you and the metal band were the same artist. Their album "Vastlands" is listed as being yours in the iTunes store.

Uggh, that actually is rather frustrating, though I'm sure a letter to apple would clear that up pretty quickly.

  6. He's using a trademark in his domain name, as his business name, and as an artist name. It would be a pretty easy case for the clothing company to win. Nothing that the clothing company is doing is unreasonable. They have a trademark and they're protecting it - it's not like "Mike Row Soft" where it's just phonetic, but it literally uses the exact same made-up word that was trademarked. That word is distinct enough that it can be easily protected. It doesn't matter that Brad isn't in the same industry or isn't (necessarily) making money. Like I'll be honest, once I have my trademark for zircon 100% registered (it's been sent off), if I see the "zircon" metal band get high in the search rankings I'd probably ask them to change their name.

Okay, but what if prophetik had...I don't know, a music review site under the same domain name. Would that still be a problem?

From what I understand, trademarking something does not automatically grant you the rights to domain names that use it.

Also, about the metal band thing...I really think that's a dick move.

I understand that in that situation you would want to ensure that people would find you first but it still really bothers me.

I mean if this is the band you're talking about...they've been using that name for 12 years.

I think it would be really not cool to ask them to change it.

  7. Just thought I'd mention that this situation really pisses me off.

I would love for this to go to court and for you to win, but like others have been saying, that's probably not the best course of action. Unfortunately.

    Either way it really sucks.

That being said, from what I understand, it's not illegal to use trademarks in domain names unless it's cyber squatting or competing with the company, or stuff like that. Obviously you're not doing that.

Also, when I google 'prophetik' the OCR artist page comes up way before www.prophetikmusic.com.

There's no way that using trademarks as a username on a site is infringement is there?

Like I said, this pisses me off.

Also, this case actually looks very similar to what's happening here.

    Might be interesting to read.

  8. Note for Lyric writers:

Don't think that you need to write the lyrics to exactly match the original melody of the songs.

There is a term in Opera, that I can't spell or pronounce, but it is a type of singing, where the singer sings what would normally be said. Don't be afraid to to go outside of the original melody with your writing and if your a composer or know a bit about composing, you can use the original music as sort of inspiration and create something entirely new, while still keeping the feel of the original. For an example of Singing What is Said, check out Repo: The Genetic Opera.

    Would that be Parlando?

Also, Repo! is a pretty awesome movie!

  9. I thought the movies leading up to this one were pretty bad (except Iron Man) but it was actually surprisingly good.

    Edit:

I hope you all stayed long enough to see the scene after the real credits ended.

Haha, yes. Best hidden scene ever!

  10. What happened to Clem's source??

If you look 7 posts before this one, I mentioned that I was going to re-open any tracks by people who hadn't sent me a WIP for the most recent date and who hadn't responded to my PMs to let me know what was going on. I still hadn't heard from him by that point so I ended up opening it.

From what I understand he is still interested, but I'm waiting until I get another WIP before I put him back on the tracklist.

  11. I don't know of any commercial stuff, but maybe this will be of some use:

    http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/andy-sneap/529782-sharing-my-collection-drum-samples-here.html

I've layered some of these with other Vst's/samples to good effect. Even if you find a handful of samples you like it'll be worth the download :)

That's what I've been using too due to my lack of money. For the most part the samples are pretty good considering they're free.

  12. Alright, do you prefer choosing the song to write lyrics for or do you want me to choose one for you?

Think you could give me a couple of possibilities and tell me which characters should be involved and what message needs to be portrayed?

Keep in mind that I've never written anything for a musical before and my writing tends to be somewhat abstract so I have no idea how it will turn out :-P.

Edit: Also, I've only played about 3/4 of Majora's Mask so stuff from the beginning would be good.
