Hey, guys. Randomly got inspiration to take this track on about a week ago and I figured I'd upload what I had done so far for some critique. It's a remix of Rainbow Resort from Kirby's Adventure (one of my favorite tracks from the entire franchise) in a sort of latin-jazz, fast bossa nova feel. I've never really tried anything in that style before, and I've had a lot of fun putting together what I've managed so far (except the solos - I've been step sequencing those in Renoise, which is pretty rough, but all I can do since my keyboard chops have gone down the toilet). Please disregard the super cheesy samba whistles at the start; I was just screwing around with the idea and forgot to mute them before I rendered down ANYWAY! Source: Remix: Samba del Arco Iris

Does it matter which minor?
Skyline Drop replied to Nabeel Ansari's topic in Music Composition & Production
Bb flat minor; the saddest of all the keys... -
Well. This certainly blows. I highly disapprove of this decision.

League of Legends: I finally updated the player list in the OP!
Skyline Drop replied to Garian's topic in General Discussion
In my experience with fighting games, at least, tier lists are generally organized by the number of favorable match-ups against other characters that they have. Characters with more favorable match-ups are higher tiers. A list for this could be organized in a similar principle based on the number of teams they could conceivably fit into based on their general role. It would be really messy, but I think it could be done. I'm not sure how much I like how Elementz is doing it (i.e. more or less by himself), but from what I've seen of top level play, it's mostly accurate. -
I started playing Neverwinter Nights II a while back when they had it on sale for like $20 on Steam. I had to start the game over about five times before I could get through the first story arc of the main campaign. I had to gather at least five people from the militia to hold back some invading monsters or something, and even though I found more than I needed to and brought them over, the next cutscene just wouldn't trigger. I spent about 15 hours doing that quest line over and over again until it finally worked out.

League of Legends: I finally updated the player list in the OP!

I've been playing this for a while now. My main account is xSiriusx, just hit level 30 on that one about a month ago. Looking to hopefully see some of you guys online. -
I'm pretty excited. I picked up Z3ta+ when it was on sale for like $20 a few months ago, and haven't only just recently started to get into it. This looks like a nice upgrade for the original; looks a bit more user-friendly, which makes it worthwhile in my book.

Hey, guys. Started this one a while ago at the urging of a thread in the Requests forum, and it's been gathering dust since. Did some minor polishing to it today, so I figured I'd see what people thought. The is pretty minimal, so my interpretation of it had to be pretty liberal to compensate. The melody played by the flute borrows pretty heavily from DKC's Aquatic Ambience - and by 'borrows pretty heavily,' I mean, 'is copied almost verbatim.'ANYWAY. Source: Remix: Once in a Blue Moon

Someone should make a behind the wall plugin

Alternatively, you build a cheap plaster wall into your home studio and set up some microphones behind it. Analogue is always better than digital. -
Do you think your musical instrument matches your personality?

I play the recorder. I'm obsolete in most modern ensembles. -
OCR02226 - Legend of Zelda "Nullification"
Skyline Drop replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
These are probably the most offensive sounds I've ever subjected my ears to in all the best ways. It's so filthy it almost hurts... but I can't stop listening... -
Looking at the judges' decisions, it appears that the MMBN4 remix I attempted earlier recently got NO, resubmit'd. So I will probably take another look at that after I'm not so swamped with schoolwork.

The most awkward cringe-inducing video game ad ever
Skyline Drop replied to Benjamin Briggs's topic in General Discussion
You know, that second minigame kind of looks like a really God-awful take on NiGHTS where you spank each other instead of using any sort of reasonable control device. -
wip Paper Mario - A Plea from the Stars
Skyline Drop replied to Skyline Drop's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Yeah... the song isn't actually over here. I just cut this render down to 1:44 because I haven't finished writing the parts yet. It's still really sparse at those parts, and I didn't feel like rendering out those, so I just faded out -
So it's been a very long time since I posted anything to the Workshop, but I've finally got something I like the direction of so far. The source is a catchy little jingle from Paper Mario, and I've taken a stab at it in a sort of contemporary gospel ballad feel, which is normally *way* outside my comfort zone, but I like how it's coming together so far, anyway. Note that this is of course nowhere near finished, although I probably won't add too much to the parts I've already written, since they sound pretty close to how I want them now. Music Creation Software/Game
Skyline Drop replied to MusicTechy's topic in Music Composition & Production
Numerology is certainly one of the most unique music creation paradigms I've ever come across. If 'something different' is your intention, it's difficult to beat that. -
I know what my issue with the snare is. I feel like it's pitched way too low. Now, I prefer my snares to have a much snappier sound to them, so I tend to pitch mine up quite a bit. That's just my preference, though - not at all necessary, I don't think, but I'd find much less of an issue with it if you were to do that. Like... towards the end when they have more of that military cadence feel, it's okay, but when they're holding the groove for the rest of the song, I feel like the drums are really underwhelming overall, and the snare to me is the biggest culprit.

I only managed 10. I am saddened by this. Nice work, though!
-
Jeez. I absolutely hated this song in the game, but this arrangement makes it surprisingly bearable. Of course, the theme itself is pretty heavily obscured, but go with what works, I guess. Definitely digging the electric piano work here, and while the acoustic piano is a bit bright (*almost* painfully so), I think it helps to bring the character of the original theme into play here. I enjoyed it

These can only serve to help! Thank you very much

Wow. The arrangement on this is really, *really* good. I think with a bit more polish in production value it could easily be subbed. My only real criticisms: - The snare *still* needs a bit more presence in the beginning. It doesn't sound so washed in reverb, but it still seems a bit thin to me. It might need a boost in the mids. - I think you need a new title. Not really a very constructive criticism, but I'm not a fan

I suppose Super Mario World is what brought me here. There was that old 'Super Mario Sleigh Ride' arrangement by the One-Ups that I happened across several years ago that first made me aware of the site, but I never really gave it much thought until last winter, essentially.

Any Renoise Users Here?
Skyline Drop replied to 0x000000FF's topic in Music Composition & Production
Another Renoise user here, too, but I'm really only scratching the surface with it. I don't really get too deep into the technical tracker aspects of it, since my musical background consists largely of playing in school concert bands, but something as simple as letting me work primarily from the keyboard turned out to be a huge draw factor for me. I also like the ease with which I can lay samples into complex rhythms and melodies. I can really quickly lay down sketches of songs - faster than I could during my brief stint with Orion, and *much* faster than I could using a notation program like Finale... though I suppose Finale is less about the composition process and more about the finished product. The main thing I don't like about it is that the included samples are pretty awful on their own. I feel they need some pretty intense manipulation and processing before they can be put to much use.
