  1. Maybe this idea is already out there, but how about an ocr drop box.

Heck I think it may cost getting a premium account due to the size for the normal drop box, but maybe it would be an alternative to using email and maxing out limits?

    http://blog.soundcloud.com/2010/06/17/dropbox-demos/

I was just thinking about that when I was looking for some small labels.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also the soundcloud account could be used a small spotlight account.

  2. As some of you guys noticed in my newer mixes, I'v been using/experimenting with reverb to get more low end and high end in my songs (and some widths) and ofcourse im filtering...

http://soundcloud.com/aires/air3s-long-walk (Note :: Optimized for moniters, and any headphones. Not tested on other speakers yet) (PLAY LOUD)

^thats the experiment(unintended to be 8 or even 2 min ) song, Is there a way I can use verb to add more character in the mids?

  3. If profit and happy customers justified everything, the world would be a terrible place.

In a way, while mostly pandering to men (which is never going to change imo, as much as it probably should), Japan also does have a sector of games designed to pander exclusively to women, albeit a very specific grouping. They're called Otome games. Actually, thinking about it, there's a lot less objectification of women certain types of Visual Novels in general (discounting male-targeted dating sims obviously (yes there are other types of visual novels, no Katawa Shoujo should not be taken as a standard for visual novels in general)).

Obviously, it doesn't justify the fact that the rest of the Japanese market is saturated with games which contain practically nothing but objectification of women, but the range of games designed without any intent to pander specifically to male gamers seems to be significantly larger than what we have coming from western developers.

I ment interested target audience = potential profit

you are right that happy customers != profit at times, but I will say that happy customers of a series could equal future profit for a series of release within the same world such as "final fantasy", "DOA",Sexy beach,etc... (and it could be, can I say "inversly" equally if people buy through other products because of there experience with other products)

I will also say my little math formula was a (naive) theoretical idea, but I do agree on what your saying about japan. Its just that alot of content in japan beside 50+ hour visual novels like OVAs and TV shows do kind of portray women in pg-13/R perspectives.

    2.

Sexism and racism are 2 diffrent discussions.

Thats essentually an hatred vs Idealism discussion.

  4. That female characters are often designed for the pleasure/satisfaction of males is pretty obvious when you consider that most people in the game industry are males. So, of course when you have primarily men making games, they are generally going to make games that appeal to them. That's why there are tons of adrenaline-pumping FPS action games and skimpy female outfits. Does anyone really disagree with this? It would be more shocking if things DIDN'T turn out that way (eg. if a male-dominated industry produced content that appealed to both sexes exactly equally).

The solution is to find ways of getting females more involved with the game industry.

    This^

    As I said before,

    Sex+Audience+Appeal+????= Profit= Happy Customers

  5. I recently joined Soundcloud and decided to start uploading some of my original works written with video games in mind. Here's one of my favorites:

    http://soundcloud.com/drakken/space-shooter-2012

It's a high energy song I wrote for an imaginary space shooter while I was at college back in 2010. It's got a real oldschool synth feel to it. I originally composed it in FL Studio, but recently revamped it in Pro Tools, hence the 2012.

The second loop is an experiment of sorts taking the same song but using (fake) electric guitars.

    Comments welcome!

I Dig this, but i wish you would pan the pads :o

And I can fill in the guitar parts with real guitar if you want

  6. The question then should be "Why does sex sell?", which could then lead to "Is this really a problem?" among other questions and hypothesis.

Either way, I'm thoroughly convinced that blaming the media is more than a bit naive.

Since the gaming industry is more leaning towards the male end of the spectrum...

Actually let me put it like this, what is bad about half naked female characters again; people never complain about porno, but when it comes to video games, people go nuts, even when a guy's shirt is off.

  7. Hi, my name is Shaun Lalihatu (48MX) and every now and then I post a (videogame) remix.

I wanted to promote my "Sky Jungle" (Donkey Kong Country / Land 2) remix and wondered what you guys thought of it.

    Here is the link:

All copyrighted music and their respective owners include the original composer(s) for Donkey Kong Country, RARE Ltd. and Nintendo.

I do not own the image used in this video, credit(s) for the image go to 'stickerbushymp'.

It maybe a cover but I lieks its!

and needs more high end imo but.....

  8. THIS IS NOT A REQUEST THREAD.

Ok Due to some question on my cloud, I thought I would make this thread one last time, and when it dies, I will no longer post synth paths/patch threads here and will only post sounds on gearslutz and pms on soundcloud.

So good people post your synth patches, tips, ideas, what ever here.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Me: Hay guys, some people asked how I get some of my synths to sound "analogish", thats easy, when I dont rent any gear at my favorite music shop, all I do to get that sound is run a small "LFO" on the pitch insert of any of the ocillators/operators in Sylenth one ,FM8 or Massive. When I do use the LFO thing or use actual analog gear, I sometimes put a auto tune plugin so things dont get out of line with tuning, and nobody ever notices (easily).

Q2 : how do you get those comby/screamy sounds without massive and stuff.

To do that heavy distorted thing, first have 1 or 2 (or more if you want) ocillators open, then a decent amount of reverb (Experiment), then open your favorite distortion plugin (or hardware if you have/want, more preferable a guitar distortion unit/hardware/pedal/sim).

I use Guitar Rig 4 because I can use a great sounding filter effect and its LFO unit included with it without wasting money on a third party filter or wasting hours looking for free filters and LFO plugins that actual work with my DAW with no glitches.

A great thing to do when making crazy synths is to resample and save sounds in to a folder so you can use them in new projects and drop them in a good/excellent sampler like the ones in Ableton. (NOTE IF YOUR TRING TO GET IN TO SOME COMPLEXTRO HOUSE, RESAMPLEING AND SAVING SOUNDS INTO A FOLDER SAMPLE BANKS IS A MUST, UNLESS YOU LIKE WASTING HOUSE REPROGRAMMING SYNTHS OR USING UP CPU.....But dont do it for sounds you will need to change or musically change through out a song or whatever your plans are)

Q3 : How do you make that fat sawtooth bass synth you use just like the one in the mord fustang song "lick the rainbow"

    http://www.mediafire.com/?icwzujor3fjha39

    example of use :: http://soundcloud.com/aires/dem-chemicals-reuploading

I add small white noise, then add the built in distortion from massive (or sylenth 1, which ever synth I use to do that synth at the time)

and compress the heck out of the sound.

    -----------

No I will not post the "talking bassline" synth or any exotic/cool synths.......
