http://vimeo.com/40616474 music & sound by me! And yes, it has no narrative. And yes, that is dubstep in 7/8 at the end ... sort of.

Thanks so much theopany - even though i took forever to reply - i sent the founder of notion games to this thread and he said he'd almost given up hope before reading your reply and lo and behold - we've reached the $3000 target! Amazing. 3 days left. Thanks so much to the support - i'm really appreciative that some people have donated from here! Theopany - what's your role in the dust project? It looks pretty legit! Will have a closer look at that soon.

hmm, interesting - i was wondering about that break. I kinda loved how it sounded like it could be the end or it suddenly just stopped but then that one note fades back in! I really appreciate the feedback though! Thanks for the comment, Matt.

http://soundcloud.com/calumbowen/returning-to-earth The mixed emotions of returning to earth in your space vessel. It's not really prog but the middle section is 100% pink floyd and there's a few time sig changes. also this started out as a test using massive - so pretty much all the synths are made from massive here.

Good job - please post a link to the source! This is solid in terms of the instruments and sequencing however it seems to be quite conservative and repetitive - in that i'm pretty sure the whole piece just repeats once exactly. Perhaps consider varying dramatic levels - it all stays on this pretty calm and serene level with basically no percussion/drums. Everything about this is done well but it doesn't stand out or really grab my attention. Not that every piece should BUT i feel this is a little too conservative in interpretation, structure/dynamics, style/instrumentation. It's a great foundation but go wild - let your hair down! -
i... don't know what to say. haha, just get a vocal track on here and it'll be golden! in all seriousness, if that was ever desired (still can't decide whether it is or not...), despite being a drummer, i'm not a fan of solo drum pieces/remixes. I think it's a clever and funny but beyond a little giggle i'm not sure where i can see this going.

Calum replied to Ben Steed's topic in General Discussion
this! i suppose the door is open... or maybe it's just more fuel on the fire for those who may be already positively snooty towards the idea. -
commence backpedalling: I agree. That it's not something everyone should do and i titled it "share your kickstarters" to detract from my own shameless promotion and encourage more community activity in the thread. Also the OCRemix kickstarter was kinda jus a dumb conversation starter. backpedalling over... I totally love kickstarter for allowing the public (at least those that see it) to become a part and fund a great idea. @MrB - looks like you're doing well so far! This game looks solid and the music in the video is intense! You've done a great job. I'd love to collab (contact me via soundcloud below if you wish). @Theophany, thanks for the backing! And your advice is completely right. As much as kickstarter is about having a great idea it's also about getting eyes on your page! We've got 1/3 of the time left and 1/2 of the money so we're a little behind - hopefully getting featured somewhere could give us a little spike! Incidentally, as a reward for us hitting $1000 we released the credits track written by me with jay michael (no reason why that name would mean too much to anyone) providing vocals (also watch out for the guitar solo ) here. at my promotion. How's progress going for everyone else? It's kinda scary thinking we're really not on target to make the goal $$$! p.s. that guy's gonna make a lot of dice! That's insane.

DANGER: I'm probably about to talk quite inaccurately about chords, please feel free to correct me! At the beginning it's made up of only slash chords (i can never really work out what they should be called - you could call them a dominant 11th with no third or fifth) - Notes from bottom up - D C E G - this could be D7/9/11 or D11 (whichever you would call it...) or just C major with D in the bass - C/D... If anyone was vaguely interested the first progression is C#/D# - F#/G# - F#/G - C/D so there's lots of semi-tone movement. I honestly can't remember the finer details of the second one but it's a similar progression but instead i think they might be major 9th chords (C#, then C then F then E)... so many parallel chords! I think acid jazz sounds like the best umbrella term! Thanks for all the feedback everyone

haha, yeah... that's it really... it's in like 3/4 or 6/8 and it's got these strange harmonies, so the drums and bass don't really point towards one particular genre... hmm... it's pretty similar to "image of a hero" from Phantasy Star Online soundtrack.

http://soundcloud.com/calumbowen/cavestation i've been posting like crazy recently! But um... hmm, I just made this. It's kinda, i don't know.

hahaha, i'm an embarrassment! don't worry!

thanksss Just sent! do you know of any other places like this that'd be good to send stuff to?

Congrats! I didn't know what tastynetwork was but following the link i worked it out. And that track is golden!

This is the credits track from the Team Notion game - for free download as a reward for the kickstarter reaching $1000 (still $2000 left )! http://soundcloud.com/calumbowen/get-the-notion-feat-jay Hope you enjoy it! p.s. if you were interested: here's the kickstarter page

Congrats for VikingGuitar reaching his goal! Yeah, i think kickstarter is a really good platform for amazing ideas that you can fund and be a part of. Update on our kickstarter status - just reached $1000 (12 days to go - we're quite far behind) but we released a track from the OST for free download to celebrate getting to $1000 - here it is I wonder if OCRemix would ever consider starting a kickstarter... i don't really know what for. But they could probably offer some pretty sweet rewards. A kickstarter for an album or something would likely enrage people like the facebook likes thing did x 1000!

Interesting take - in most places it works but the one big criticism i had was that it stayed at the same dynamic level the whole way through - it was just like variations with the same bass and drum dynamic and feel (apart from the double time ending which i just heard now!) but there weren't any big moments - it felt like it was one thing after another. The playing was great! Makes me think i've GOTTA collab with you but i think i felt as though it was on dynamically on one level and i didn't feel like "i know this is the verse section" "this is the chorus section"... it felt like one variation after another with little specific structure or dramatic difference in sections. That said, i am tired and i've only listened to it twice so if these are not the case definitely disagree! i should stop talking though. You've been pretty active though - kudos! And you've got so much done on this but i'd say make each section feel more structured so it's not section after section after section - we want to sing along!!!

Vox are solid - we should collab some time! it's really sweet - good angle on the villain's perspective.

jus made this hip-hop instrumental this morning. imagine yourself sneaking through Shinra headquarters... imagine yourself sneaking through Shinra headquarters... http://soundcloud.com/calumbowen/silent-infiltration'>http://soundcloud.com/calumbowen/silent-infiltration Feedback would be brilliant

I like it! I don't have too much to suggest. The vox are a little low in the mix in the sort of "mega-phone" effect voice - if you know what i mean. The "chorus" vox. I think it's all good! Don't have really all that much to suggest. It's not amazing though... but i can't really think of why that is... It doesn't like REALLY impress me but perhaps it doesn't need to.

Opening your Voice for Singing/Voice Acting
Calum replied to Garpocalypse's topic in Music Composition & Production
I heard from a vocal workshop leader that all of this stuff from the King's Speech is real, helpful vocal warm up/strengthening stuff. Anyone tried any of them? -
haha, yeah - that was my suggestion - either load up a bunch of different flute samples on different tracks and literally split the melody between them accordingly OR use the master (the one which takes yonks to load!) and use the keyswitches - these are (for most instruments) keys at the bottom end of the keyboard (they should be orange/yellow on the keyboard of the PLAY vst) if you press one of them you get a different flute sound - one might be a crescendo - one might be legato - one might be a trill - one might be staccatto. So basically you play in your line then input these notes BEFORE the note you want to be stac/legato/cresc etc. OR if you're really fancy try and do it all in one recording! haha but that only messes things up for me. It's not too difficult to get your head around i hope but it makes the world of difference for writing realistic sounding instrument parts.
