  1. Guys, I know the picture on OCR frontpage is all kind of awesome but it makes everyone around me suspicious. There was one guy who actually asked if I was watching a hentai or something....

anyway, awesome album overall. Absolutely loving it! Great job everyone :)

Hah, yeaaah, I can't go to the OCR front page in class anymore. I about shit myself when the balls-over-tits girl popped up for the first time. Kinda would have been a bit of a faux pas if anyone had seen that.

  2. Man, I love Mother music. Easily my favorite VGM.

This remix captured the hyper-positive and nostalgic inspiration for the music, so it's a win in my book :D

I wasn't a fan of the reverb or quiet percussive instrument or whatever that accompanied the opening percussive plinks. The idea was good, but the execution was a little distracting. If the attack on that effect were a little more subtle and it were more streamlined, I think it would succeed in creating a better airy sort of soundscape.

  3. Merged offtopic thread with Community thread. Also, I don't think him working really hard had much to do with it... cancer does not discriminate :-(

Chronic stress --> enhanced intracellular oxidation --> endogenous mutagenesis --> higher likelihood of developing cancer.

I bet his lifestyle had quite a bit to do with his disease, but bleh, sucks he had to go out that way, and it was a 7-year-long, protracted battle with a cascade of organ failures to boot. The guy had serious balls (and vision, too, I guess) to trudge through something that debilitating to keep heading to work every day.

  4. Uhhhh:

    Counterstrike 1.6

    Team Fortress 2

    Super Meat Boy

I don't game that much these days :P

edit: I suppose I should have read the rest of your question. I'm an old-school gamer, through-and-through, but I feel like I've played most of the more celebrated old games on PC and the older consoles. Most -- not all -- new stuff doesn't particularly interest me. Take those two together and combine them with the fact I'm in super-grad school at the moment and you get a big, smelly shit pie --> I don't play games that much anymore. As far as PC games go, I suppose I'm most interested in complex games that only only a PC could support adequately -- 4X games & cRPGs. Else, I'll be playing a platformer of some kind on an old console.

  5. I was cornered by one of those musical monkeys that hold the cymbals. I remember that day like it was the day it happened on. It just kept bashing those things together for hours and hours, inches from my face. Eventually the monkey's owner, some fat guy with a music box, came up to me real close and said "FL studio and the monkey will go"

Of course I had no idea what he meant at the time but I got my ass out of there. I did look up FL studio when I got home and for fear of the monkey started learning it.

Man I've never shared that with anyone before :???:

    Your mushrooms: hand them over.

  6. Classically trained musician, someone said "you should use Fruity Loops", I used Fruity Loops.

    The coolest of stories.

My story is pretty much the same, except I don't have much training, no one told me to use Fruity Loopz, and my story isn't all that cool.

edit: But really, when did you start with all that music nonsense? And you're pretty jazzy for being classically trained :P

  7. I don't really like the way the chiptune accelerates in the beginning, especially around 0:23. The idea is cool, but the acceleration is very discrete. I think it'd sound better if it were more of a gradual tempo acceleration through that section rather than just playlist manipulation of the samples to speed it up. Less choppy.

    Bass = boners.

Omission of my additions = not boners :P

Otherwise, me rikey, and it's one of my favorite sources, hooray! finish.

  8. First, you grasp the music firmly in your dominant hand -- don't forget it.

Next, you firmly wrap your lips around the tip of the music, making sure to shield your teeth from contact with the sensitive skin covering the music.

Then you add a slow & wide phaser, pan it all the way to the left, add a little noise wave or something and do a slow LP filter sweep with a lot of rez while you also mess with the volume of the master track.

Cool effect, actually, but it was a bit extreme on headphones having the whole track oozing into one ear for 20 seconds.

  9. I really like how subdued all of halc's work is. I can't find anything else like it.

Which is why I like what he did here with the wubz. I see halc's work all about creating an evolving atmosphere, not really leading up to any sort of huge climax but just really making you feel like you're somewhere else.

Just my two cents on the whole "subdued" thing. It's a really endearing attribute of his work to me.

    Actually, that's a good point.

  10. I've only really used Reason, FL, and an old, PC-compatible version of Logic. I'm not a fan of Reason's interface even a little bit. I can't stand their hardware emulation rack setup. Some people love it, but I find it to be overly an overly complicated visual gimmick. That being said, Thor. THOR!!! So good. There's no rule against running reason as a slave in FL :D

The old version of Logic I used is also used by some successful producers as their DAW of choice. Meh, it was ok. The native synths are fantastic, but again, the interface bugged me, and my workflow was stalled.

FL shines for me because the interface is solid, simple, and efficient. Its native synths aren't stellar, however.

  11. Hah, well, for what it's worth months after the discussion on graphics took place, I'd prefer to see the NES tileset. From a marketing standpoint, you're probably most likely to tag the most buyers with this. The old-school cRPG tileset grabbed me, but not that many people played the Avernums and Ultimas of yore compared to, say, SMB3. The JRPG one is gorgeous, but yeah, it doesn't seem to follow the KISS principle at all. The cartoony one... no. And there is a fourth tileset that isn't coming to mind. I'm sure it looked nice. Unless it was ASCII, if I'm remembering right. In that case, nooooo.

  12. Make me a large-scale Castle of the Winds and I will pay handsomely for it. :P

First of all, holy shit. I just nostalgia'd like you would not believe. So many good old shareware games...

Second, to speak to the OP, absolutely, I would love a deep game at the expense of graphics. I'd say "who wouldn't?" but unfortunately the answer is just about every gamer, so I think.

What's going on with this project anyway, zircon? I'm definitely interested.
