  1. i never got that. a car is, like $15,000, and stealing one will land you in jail. a CD is $10 or so, and stealing one will get you a slap on the wrist (if that!) and a scolding by your parents. what a stupid analogy.

    It's not even that.

If I could steal a car and someone wouldn't physically lose the car, and thusly there was no loss of goods, and if the car companies paid the workers who made them pennies per car, and if there was a slim to none chance I'd get caught.

    I'd steal AMERICAN cars.

  2. If you bought an original XBOX and didn't mod it eventually, you did yourself a huge disservice.

Also: If I'm paying $600 for a piece of hardware, I'm going to do what I want with it. Especially if it falls within the instructed usage at the time of purchase.

If Sony doesn't want me opening my PS3, they shouldn't have sold it to me. Same goes for Apple and my MacBook Pro, same goes for Microsoft and my XBOX. Unless you're going to stand over me with a gun at my head, or plant an explosive device in it, I'm going to open it. It's mine. I've earned that much.

That is to say, I don't particularly expect to retain all my rights to using it having opened it. I don't expect Microsoft to take kindly to me installing shit they didn't approve on my XBOX. I'm not going to cry when I can't take it online anymore. I still think I have every right to open the thing up and do whatever I want.

  3. Come on, this comparison doesn't work at all. OCR does what it does with the intention of honoring the original music and talent. What's more, most of the artists here don't find tons of money and success by doing it.

The same can't be said for many of the examples posted here. Personally, I like hearing some of these examples. Also, anyone ripping on Kanye for using Daft Punk needs to listen to this:

PRETTY sure all the songs that have been posted so far are pretty clearly sample, and while they're making money off of it most, if not all of them have paid royalties, and they're sampling it BECAUSE it's identifiable and people know the original, so they're not exactly taking credit for writing the original song.

I mean...really if we're going to write a thread bitching about sampling in hip-hop, we might as well start a thread about using a double bass pedal in a metal band.

Kanye didn't sample a Daft Punk song because he was stealing it, he was sampling a Daft Punk song with the intentional of honoring the original and talent.

    Oh shi-...

B.) If OverClocked ReMixes are being redistributed, performed, or incorporated into other works, materials used must be clearly attributed both to the ReMixer(s) who created them and to OverClocked ReMix. This accreditation must be in the form of the ReMixer name(s) followed by "OverClocked ReMix (http://www.ocremix.org)". In applicable contexts where user interactivity is possible, such as websites, the site name and URL must be linked to http://www.ocremix.org. Accreditation must be presented as close to the utilized material as possible; if OverClocked ReMixes are used in a video, accreditation must be included in credits at the end, but if displayed on a website, accreditation must be prominently displayed in context with the utilized material. In the case of public or semi-public performances where accreditation is not reasonable, responding to audience inquiries with this information will suffice.

  5. Except that...you seriously don't need anti-spyware stuff for a Mac, really. No one codes spyware for macs because such a small amount of people use them. Also: Browsers for Macs don't have a lot of the exploits that IE does, and...

If you're going to downlaod something don't download a 2 year old version of Avast that has a bunch of terrible reviews.

Also: don't ask this kind of question on a video game remix sites, else you're going to answers from people like that one.

If you can't find a solid program to remove spyware for your Mac by a simple google check, even at a small fee, than there's probably a really really good reason why. (see above)

  6. I went to a school where if something was 2 seconds late and the file name didn't have the proper capitalization, you failed. No questions asked. A big reason that I'm not in Vegas with my girlfriend is because I work at a job where someone is paying $10,000 for this project to be done Tuesday morning so they can present it at a meeting with a huge company, and they don't care if I do 30 hours over a weekend (granted, a 3 day weekend) to finish it. It needs to get done. I understand the importance of a deadline.

There's a stark difference between that, and what we have here. What we have here is something a bunch of people volunteered into, to challenge their own skills, and for recreation. No one here is getting paid, and no one here paid to be a part of this. The people who procrastinated and didn't get a song done, and are using this extension to do just that because they didn't earlier, well they're only cheating themselves. The people who worked hard and got their mixes in before the deadline, congratulations.

But that's it. That's all you get is a firm pat on the back and self-affirmation. There's no voting. There's no glory. It's the satisfaction of a job well done, and on that, I congratulate all of you.

The fact of the matter is this: This challenge is about the listeners just as much as it is the mixer. Had the competition ended Saturday, as scheduled, a lot of people working on a song, or planning on working on a song, but hadn't started yet, would quit. Most would either submit a half-completed work, and never touch it again, or never start at all. The result is (and I'm just pulling these figures out of my ass, not based one what's submitted already) a handful of WIPs, and MAYBE 1 clean, polished song.

That's not exactly fair to all the people who submitted songs, hoping to hear something come out of it. This extension means those people who requested songs still have a chance that something will come of it.

Again, I understand the importance of a hard deadline, and the people procrastinating and taking advantage are only cheating themselves, but this decisions is for the greater good.
