  1. Skillful sound design. Good ear for layers. Cool use of light percussion elements and unusual rhythms to build dynamics. Production does have occasional distortion and noticeable midrange bias. I agree less compression and a compensated mix could be a big improvement. Especially when making synth dominated soundscapes with minimal percussion, it is effective to find creative ways for accenting high and sub frequencies (observing human hearing range, highs are most sensitive, bass are most foundational). this mix biases the midrange, and compression amplifies the effect. However, I think the track is really well done in reference to arrangement, clarity of elements, style, guts. edit: thought about it and decided to switch my vote. pushing for that extra refinement. NO
  2. very well done track. the original piece is tough to hear at all in your arrangement. all of your melodies and harmonies, while in the same vein, sound distinct. I do hear the recurring motif Deia pointed out. I also agree with zykO's argument. despite glinting/abstract source usage, this piece is a mad skilled tribute to game audio . . . YES
  3. agreeing with the other Js here. I like the way you play the main melody and you’ve got a cool relentless vibe going, but the mix doesn’t breathe much. drums aren’t popping, mids are garbled, compression is heavy. cut volume and focus on bringing layers into clarity. NO
  4. while I agree that there are the above mentioned production/sequencing issues, the arrangement comes together nicely. personally, the percussion & organ entrance struck me as fake sounding, but the piece builds interest with cool changeups and layers. the dynamic shift at 3:03 is a highlight for me. throughout the piece, I hear the production as being a little rough around the edges, but I ultimately have to say YES
  5. I agree with all of Kris’s points on the mix. Especially the guitar tone. Definitely too middy and up-front. Just needs to blend better. The arrangement is suitably interpretive, and to be honest, the hiss is subtle and doesn’t bother me much. Even so, production is the downfall. NO
  6. A skillfully made dance track. Appeasing in execution and concept, even got that standard highpass transition in there. The arrangement doesn’t alter much from the original. The form is different, but both the style and content are nearly identical. I’m looking for more uniqueness. Variation on the rhythm, variation on the meldies or harmonies. If the original piece wasn’t also a four on the floor synth jam I would probably feel differently. As a well produced classic style edm track this succeeds, but on the basis of limited rearrangement I say NO
  7. cool arrangement. I agree with Deia about sequencing issues. blockiness pervades. there are a few points where fakeness jumps out. overlap at :25, wind entrance/melody at 1:11, stabs at 3:07. truth, writing with the grid makes it hard to create legit sounding orchestral recordings. xfade, scooch. it’s tough to reject the track on these grounds because fo real, your arrangement is tight. NO
  8. "If the crunch part of the bass was stereo separated, this problem would be eliminated." good call. I hear it as a spatial issue, which is common with dry synth patches blended with acoustic recordings like vox etc. the production quality sounds good to me, despite a bit of jarringness caused by that blend. your voice is solid bro, keep it up. the arrangement is similar to the original, but there are so many melodic and stylistic flourishes off the original vocal part and surrounding elements that I will say YES
  9. Nice take on a great tune. A modern inflected baroque style that transitions well into blurry arpeggios, romanticism reminiscent of Chopin. I agree with the NOs that a live performance is almost always preferable for a solo piece, but the arrangement is strong and I think a lot of people will dig this. Being midi sequenced, there is naturally some stiffness, but the mixer kept it smooth with subtle note velocity & timing tweaks. YES
  10. Definitely not much source here. Production quality is paper thin. Percussion busts some cool grooves/transitions, and your synths and ambiances are cool, but everything sounds consistently flat. Simply put: levels could be boosted a lot across the board (helps to do a/b comparison with pro mixes). I like the sounds your using, very retro throwback vibe, but very little source connection and weak production make this a NO
  11. Those synths are vanilla, but I can hear a retro appeal for the arp at least. The rearrange is well done. Great punk metal energy and clean performances. Mix is off tho, leads are too hot and over-compression is happening. Production knocks it NO (borderline)
  12. Very cool sound design. Source is there fsho. "oh yeah this is bass music" switch near the start is cool. Drums are a little too verb'd out, master bus is much too hot. This would sound way better if it wasn't so compressed - which is the deal-breaker for me. Kris is also right about subtle mixing issues. Overall it's well-done tho, your just pushing the master volume beyond the point of reasonableness. NO (vry quick fix & resub)
  13. The piano has a misty, resonating tone which comes off a little ghostly, but the part-writing is identifiable. simple rearrangement. Good performance, good control of feeling - never gets out of hand. Not much else to say. Very chill solo piano. YES
  14. I can hear the original, but it is majorly rearranged. There is a lot I dig about this one. The chopped up piano arp figure is really sick, and there are a many cool experimental synth sounds throughout the piece, but the source tune is too far removed. There are also production issues that Kris mentioned. freq balance is aggressive, and the mix is rather crude. Tho the sound does honestly have a punk rock appeal, the mix needs more refinement per OCR standards. NO
  15. Well done. stays super fresh with all those groovy changeups
  16. Slow and mesmerizing. Individual layers are skillfully developed. A little incessance in the mid-range string/wind figure during the climactic sections. samples betray their sampled-ness. Overall your builds are bombin and I enjoyed vry much. Very nice blend of pizzicato and sustain articulations. Giving the meditative original a theatrical impression. YES
  17. Lots of attention to detail. Synth design is well-done. Expressive and organic. Your leads have a vocal quality that works well. Nice rhythmic control with those turnarounds, nice transitions. I think you've improved the original. The overall volume is burning but it's alright. I would cut back on the compression. YES
  18. fair point duud. it's not really dnb. straight up helljam
  19. Sweet rearrangement. cool deconstruction of the cartoonishly badass drop section from the original. You capture the brooding nature of the dark knight, but the style stays comic-book in lofi percussion, over-the-top guitar sounds, retro synth patches, all mixed with finesse. Can't complain. YES
  20. Classic trance percussion. The main lead is nasal, I think tone could be refined, but there is a deceptive simplicity to what you've done. Compression is hotter than necessary. I agree with Vig about bass vs kick. More dynamic bass synth would liven things up. Lots of stylish rhythm/soundscape switches though, mixing is clean and interpretation of source is expansive. YES (borderline)
  21. Well done. Very well produced overall. The guitars and the orchestra complement each other nicely. I think the bass could be more present, and the lead guitar mixed with the orchestra elements at the end does get muddy, but ultimately the blend is polished enough to be solidly over the bar. The arrangement is really cool. YES
  22. The recordings are dry and so the mix is flat. Some basic EQ and compression would go a long way. Your voice is not bad, but this performance is not compelling, and it suffers a lot from the dead room tone. Just gotta practice up dude NO
  23. Skillful orchestral arrangement. Making good use of your samples. Nailing the darkly grandiose atmosphere. The low frequencies are very dynamic. I honestly felt that they were a strong point, tho they run a little hot. There is some shrillness in brief moments. Enjoying the contemplative vibe Bassy reverb is cool, especially with nicely dialed compression and no percussion to clutter up the tones and sometimes post-reverb to burn the signals together - why not? It can warm the tone quite abit, which is what I hear in this mix. This might be improved with the reverb turned down a little bit, but the balance as is is pretty dreamy. I don't hear any distortion and all elements of the mix have clarity . . . even visceral presence. YES
  24. Sup Larry. Gotta disagree with you man. This track is simple and well executed. A concise beat soundscape focused on basic synth patches with subtle ornamentations reminding me of classic ocr. The production has satisfying presence. The crowd sound doesn’t bother me. As a textural element I think it’s pretty legit and it’s cut© nature is keeping with the track’s theme of relaxed simplicity. Looking forward to more, RJ! YES
