  1. Uuurrgggh. This is heavy shit. I like it. Connection to the source is clear, and you spice things up with some well-done metal style rearrangements. The lo-fi intro leading into the heavy smack-down is cool. Production quality is there... individual elements are distinct, percussion has beef, rhythm guitars are mean. I think the rearrangement could be made more interesting with some rhythmically striking riffs and drum parts (Meshuggah and Dillinger are my metal fixes), but as a straight forward slow thrash rearrangement of some of the darkest stuff from FFVII, this does the trick. YES
  2. Nice intro. I like your treatment of the source with that sultry piano. The entrance of the percussion is almost too cheesy for me, but then the high strings come in and it’s doin it for me. I dig those glistening melodies, and it’s groovy when you drop them into the synth at 0:48. I can hear some of the aforementioned ballooning in the mids at times, but it doesn't break it for me. The mixing/mastering is well done to my ear. Percussion is repetitive, but your sounds have the mojo. The way you meld the synths with the orchestra is cool. This is a rich arrangement that flows effortlessly and features a variety of timbres augmented by tasteful synths and loads of subtleties. YES
  3. love this classic. probably heard it 1000 times
  4. Cool. I dig this. Nice patches/reharmonization. Getting Nosaj Thing vibes. If you wanted to add dynamics, a fat bass patch with some sub frequencies would be a good layer to bring in. I also like some of the details in the other version you have. Particularly the high notes that show up at the apex of the arpeggios.
  5. Alright, I'll think about those transitions. Thanks for the listens/comments
  6. Haha I'm glad you dig it man Thanks Yea, that's a fair point. I kept it so simple because I liked how it gave such a strong focus to the harmony from the fairy theme. Those changes are just so damn perfect. I was inspired a lot by this fantastic mix: "Magic Fountain" http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02058/ Also, I forgot to mention in the first post that pretty much all of the outro jazz section was the work of my friend, who is a killer musician, Brendan Hannigan (you can see his soundcloud here: https://soundcloud.com/brendanhannigan). I just recorded and mixed it and programmed the drums. Gotta give props, I thought he nailed it.
  7. I made this crazy remix about the life and death(s) of Link and thought some of you hangin in this forum might like it: https://soundcloud.com/brent-wollman/you-will-not-survive It's a project I've wanted to tackle for a long time Edit: The outro section was arranged by my multi-instrumentally talented friend Brendan Hannigan (Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/brendanhannigan)
  8. That's cool man. That was just my first impression. Listening back I can hear the detail you put into it. I'm really only bothered by the first instant of it. Hearing percussion just "fade in" like that makes me think of a drummer rolling from a distance onto the stage on his own mini-stage with wheels. I guess what I'm trying to say is that quick fade ins like that sound kind of unnatural to me. But this is a really nitpicky thing. "Also, Clem is awesome; he wrote one of my favorite OC ReMixes: "Eternal Descent". You ought to check it out sometime, it's so fun to listen to that." Thanks for the kind words
  9. Alright man, I apologize. Here are some of my comments on the mix: The drop near the 1 minute mark has some nice percussion, and I think the pulsing subbass is a cool idea. IMO, it could be mixed with more finesse. Right now it is eliminating all of the dynamic range in that section (which I grant may be intentional). I like how you let things simmer in the middle. the distant sounding ambience that fades into nothing is sweet. I think the way you fade the percussion back in is less cool. I would have liked to hear something more creative there. The second half of the piece continues and develops the groovy/mournful feel and I think it is quite good. There is also some clever stuff happening with the percussion. It is here especially that I wish you controlled that subbass a little more so all of those cool little details could be brought out of the mix some more. Overall I say nice work and good on you for using such unusual sound-design and form. The production quality is the main thing about the piece that bothers me.
  10. haha. Dude, don't take it too hard, I don't actually dislike you or anything. It seems to me that you seriously don't realize how your attitude is coming off right now. You asked for an example of self congratulatory ways, and that exactly what I gave with that quote. You claimed your piece was "untouchable". Come on man, you can't say shit like that. You're only human. Nothing you do is untouchable. Were you just joking? Here's the thing. You have responded to every single criticism with a striking inability to see another person's perspective. When anybody points out something that they think can be improved in your work, you insist that they just don't understand your grand artistic vision This attitude you have makes it hard for you to see the limitations of your own work, which is a death knell for any artist. You're too complacent, man! I genuinely dig some of the interesting sound design and arrangement ideas in your Soundcloud stuff. But compare it to something like this, for instance: https://soundcloud.com/amon-tobin/lost-found You should be able to see that there are levels of skill that you have not tapped. You need to be less self-satisfied in order to grow as an artist. (a sad truth)
  11. "Tell me 5 good reasons why I should accept your criticism when it claims this untouchable remix wasn't detailed enough or cleaned up enough" -Insactuary Dude I gotta say that you are pretentious. I honestly think the mix has some pretty cool moments. But man... you should realize that your overtly self congratulatory attitude will generally make people harsher with their criticism.
  12. Damn dude this is ace. Love that mix of synths and guitar so much. Stellar attention to detail as well
  13. Yeah man. Exciting stuff!
