3DS: Friend Codes on First Page, OMG THE THIRD DIMENSION
Turtle replied to The Damned's topic in General Discussion
That's what I love about having a game store relatively close to me. I don't have to go out of my way to get it right at launch. And I don't think I'll be getting any launch titles, either. I might browse the VC to see if they have Metroid II, but that'll probably be it for now. -
I am SO TIRED of my mixes not sounding clean!

Had no idea there was a thread for that (not that there's any way I could've been expected to). -

I pre-ordered a black one from GameStop, myself, but I'm going to pick it up in-store if I have anything to say about it. -

We need some kind of a thread where you put up a song that's finished in terms of composition but completely untouched in terms of mixing, and then someone else takes the file and mixes it, then gives it back so the first person can take it apart to see how it ticks. -
My method in the short time I've been using the software is rather similar to warfighter's, although I do have a piano which I play to get a rough idea of the tune I want before I plug the notes into the piano roll. For most of my songs I work in 4/4 time, but occasionally I'll venture into 3/4 or even 5/4. I tend to work with synthetic sounds rather than acoustic ones, but I'll always have a soft spot for the piano - especially its low notes, which have that lovely unique sound to them. Anyway, I'll usually start with three or four instruments and a basic drum kit (kick, hat, and snare), and expand from there. Patterns are usually one, two, or four measures in length, and I rarely have more than one instrument playing in a single one; I find that this allows for the most variation in the song itself. I don't really do much mixing, seeing as I have no idea how. I usually just stick on a Reverb and EQ, even though I don't know how to use them very well.

I don't believe so. The system's VC is supposed to include Turbografx 16, Game Gear, GB, and GBC games, but there hasn't even been a mention of GBA compatibility so far. It seems like something they would address as soon as possible if they have it planned, because the biggest concern for a lot of folks is the lack of GBA compatibility. Not that I would mind if it turned out to be true. If it did, then Metroid: Zero Mission and Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga, here I come. -

I won't have a DS, though. Like I said, I'm going to have to trade in my DS to pay for the new system, unless I want to wait until the holidays or later for the price to go down. On a related note, I've pre-ordered one. -
Yeah... I've helped others with games on occasion, but every game I've ever beaten I've done entirely on my own. And yes, there are a lot of them.

. Seriously, Cortex's theme is like, the most awesome theme in the series.

I'll probably be getting this at launch, since part of the money toward it for me will have to come from selling my DS Lite and GBA library, which will only decrease in price after the system's release. -
wip "Theme of Super Metroid" (needs a title)

Updated the original post with some progress I've made. At least, I hope it's progress. -

Rhythm is admittedly not my strong suit. I'll try to work on that. I was toying with shortening it a bit. I could think of a couple of places in which to do so. I honestly was not aware that I changed the melody. Did I? I thought that was how the song went... >_> I did consciously omit some of the notes though. I almost changed the part at 0:48. Almost. I'm not sure why I didn't in the end. Maybe I put it on my to-do list and just forgot about it? Anyway (stupid question incoming), what are filter and volume envelopes, in layman's terms? I know, I suck. Definitely need to work on those things. Length is hard to achieve without making it too repetitive - I felt I was already pushing it with such a long intro in the first place. Mind you, I have a pathetic attention span. I have next to no experience working with EQ or compression or anything more complicated than adding some reverb. Any more advice, as far as that goes? Tell me about it. Thanks for taking the time to listen and give your thoughts. I'll try to take them into account. -
Another foray into FL Studio. If music were drawing, this would be sort of like a doodle. It's pretty bare-bones, and I'm not sure I'm happy with the instrument choice for the melody, but overall, not the worst thing I've ever done. Also I'm sorry because this song is one of the most overdone ever. I hope people here aren't too sick of it to listen to my take. Or at least one of my takes. I doubt anyone needs a source link, ...[Update]

wip Sonic 3 Final Boss theme for Orchestra
Turtle replied to mrtrent's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Not bad. Sounds pretty solid to me.* Good luck. *Mind you, I don't really have a trained ear for mixing quality or what have you. -
I like it. The harmony isn't what I would expect for this song - a lot more melancholy than the original. I would've probably chosen something different, but what you did works pretty well.

Sorry 'bout that. Try it now, should be all right.

Between my recently purchasing FL Studio and the thread requesting a Tomba! remix, I've had that game's soundtrack on my mind recently. I figured I'd start learning with a mix of the Haunted Mansion theme. I'm looking for any and all advice. Keep in mind that I'm completely new to creating music with this software. Don't assume that I know even the most basic of techniques (on a related note, if anyone knows a good tutorial for those starting out with FL, I'd be happy to see a link). I'm toying with moving part of the main piano track to a different instrument, perhaps a saxophone. Thoughts on that?

That Stalfos(?) looks insane.

Seconded. Very much seconded. My personal favorites are: The Haunted Mansion (Tomba!) The Underground Maze (Tomba!) (Tomba! 2)

Thanks for putting up with me. If anyone else wants to weigh in, now's the time to do so. -

Looks like Download would be cheaper and, and correct me if I'm wrong, but the only thing I would miss out on would be the box itself.
