  1. So I forgot to ask: does it matter whether I get the boxed version or the download version?
  2. So I'm definitely going to be purchasing FL Studio. I've been thinking about this for months, and I think I've gone as far as I can without shelling out for some decent software. But I have a question: looking at the different versions, I'm not sure if I want the Fruity Edition or the Producer Edition. Which should I get? I'm leaning toward Producer, since I'll always be able to "grow into it." But old habits die hard, and I'm still ridiculously cheap. So I'm also wondering if I could get away with buying Fruity. Just how advantageous are the advantages, and can equivalent features be gotten for free with different software? Would I be able to upgrade later if I change my mind, rather than paying full price for the next version up? Your thoughts are welcome.
  3. This style isn't my cup of tea, but I checked it out anyway. It's really good! Catchy tunes and good melodies.
  4. Nice. I could easily see this in a game soundtrack - especially one that takes place in or has a level based on a TRON-esque datascape.
  5. It's meant to sound triumphant. Have a listen, and lemme know how I did. I need better instruments...
  6. You seem to be miles beyond my ability, so I can't give much advice. But these do sound pretty good.
  7. Wow. Just... wow. It can be hard to find a mix of this song that suits my tastes, but boy did this one hit the spot. Nice job. This is really slick.
  8. Good. Really creepy. I didn't really care for the original, but I did enjoy this.
  9. Menu and sub-screen music, perhaps? You could also always go back to songs you've already finished and tweak them to your liking if you're not 100% happy with them.
  10. There's nothing wrong with a short song. There's also nothing wrong with a long song. Unless, of course, it's really just a short song that repeats itself. I prefer songs that don't just loop through again just to appear longer.
  11. That's good, because that's how I meant it. VVVVVV had a great soundtrack.
  12. D'oh! How'd you know it was me!? Seriously, movie quotes aside, I always thought of this as the lesser of two evils, with the greater evil being leaving the poor sample/synths/instruments to fend for themselves. Any advice for a guy who doesn't want to spend too much money?
  13. I don't believe that the fan project "Kingdom Hearts Destiny" is on OCRemix. Most of the songs are covers rather than remixes, but Bak.R's rendition of "The Other Promise" is excellent and is more of a remix.
  14. I'm rather decidedly unglad that they used the manga for inspiration. Especially considering Western audiences can't be reasonably expected to have read it.
  15. I died a little inside when I saw the Other M DoA stage. Almost as much as I died inside when I saw the scene that takes place in that area in the actual game.
  16. This. Any thoughts and criticisms would be appreciated.
  17. I like it. It could almost be from VVVVVV if not for a few instruments that don't sound 8-bit enough.
  18. Nice. Takes a while for it to really hit its stride, but it sounds great. This site needs some good Rayman mixes.
  19. Better than most of the official battle themes in the games.
  20. So true. I've taken piano since early elementary school, and have a decent grasp (well, a not-completely-sucky grasp, anyway) of musical theory. But I have zero familiarity with software and other technical aspects. DAW, VST, and other such acronyms are mysteries to me.
  21. Use both. Use the guitar one as the song that actually plays during the village, and use the piano version as a reprise for the "end credits song that combines all the themes in the game" later on. Or vice-versa. For the purposes of the description of where the song is meant to be played, the guitar would be better. But you should never let a good piano arrangement go to waste.
  22. Anvil is nice and simple to use for the actual writing process. Mostly because I can use a layout that looks like sheet music instead of having to strain my eyes looking at something all technical and weird and stuff. Thanks for the input, fellas.
  23. Heh, yeah. I could use a better piano sound, but I'm not sure where to get one or how to implement it with Anvil Studio. On a related note, FL Studio, whenever a song restarts, always sets the instruments back from what I've set them to, to what they were when I loaded the MIDI. Is it supposed to do that, since it's the demo version, or am I doing something wrong? In any case, thanks for your thoughts.
