This is definitely coming along! I love the heartbeat kicks in the beginning, great twist on my suggestion. I still think a soft kick roll along with that reverse swoosh in the transition would connect the parts a little better, get the listener ready for more intense drumming. I would take out that final heartbeat and replace it with the kick roll. Gawd that piano lead is pretty. Which preset is that? Song is still a bit repetitive but I think that's mostly ok... maybe just a couple of slight melody variations here and there? Like between 2:02 and 2:15. Those choir pads are very nice, but they sound a little bit plain. What about gently sidechaining them for some added movement and interest? Also the drums are quite repetitive, maybe you could throw in a few little rolls or breaks or somesuch here and there. Like a quick, soft snare roll and crash combo thingy. Ok 3:04 through 3:36 is really plain. Wouldn't that be a perfect spot to do some kind of amazing solo? Guitar at the end is stunning. Makes a perfect soft outro.

Guys, I would hold of on doing anything serious on this project until Emu or Theo dive in here and give us an update on things. I know they are in the process of making some changes. At the very least, ping one of them before spending too much time on something!

This is utterly lovely Wes, like all your music. The ambience is divine. I feel like you could maybe hint at the drop, maybe bring in some kicks or hat hits starting around 1:12, just on the first beat of those four bars leading to the break before the drop... otherwise the drop is so totally unexpected as to be a bit jarring, at least for me. Maybe even a kick or snare roll, ramping up in volume, in addition to the reverse effect. That next section is awesome, just needs to be signaled a bit better. Signaling it will make it so much more exciting when it hits. You need a better crash sample, and need to process it a bit better, this one sounds cheapish. Some more chord/melody variations, and this is a truly amazing piece. The guitar sketch at the end is gorgeous, I hope you can work it in! And Argle... even judges need critiques on their stuff! Everyone needs crits on their own stuff.

This for me too. I can whip up a track pretty quickly but the mixing and balancing and tweaking and adding transitions and fine-polishing it can take me a month. And then another full month of second-guessing myself.

No, you Friend *before* the first date. Just after the initial "hello," actually.

1. Continually pushing yourself. Trying out techniques you find in tutorials, or trying to replicate a sound or effect, or trying different arrangement ideas. 2. Learning to take criticism. No one can learn music in a vacuum. Criticism, when given kindly but with plenty of detail, moves you forward. Have a team of 3-4 trusted friends who you always know you can bounce stuff off of anytime, then bounce away. 3. Work with others. Collaboration is the best way I have found to learn new things. I find that when it is my turn with a file, I want to impress the other person so I do my best and always try to go beyond my previous limits. You're welcome!

Before this thread gets any staler, I just want to say thanks for these messages, it really truly made my day. Thanks guys/gals, I love you all. ...and omg erecto it took me waaaayyyy too long to get this joke. Just way too long. See? Fewer working brain cells at advanced age. But thanks, that's quite a compliment, even coming from the likes of you, who is fine with Friending everyone and everything.

Here is what I do. Isolate the busiest part of the track, 8 bars or so. Play it on loop, with everything muted. Turn on one instrument at a time. Like, each drum element. Balance and EQ the drums. Then, add in the bass. Rebalance as needed, especially for kick and bass to not compete. Then bring in a backing element, then another, then another, then leads etc. and don't move forward until what you are hearing sounds ok and un-muddy.

In this song you can hear what I mean about automating that formant arp. Listen to how the initial arp evolves in so many ways throughout the song. Super interesting and expressive!

I'll sign up as a star if anyone wants me. I have a collab mix accepted on which I did a humongous amount of work (arranging/mixing).
