  1. I love the jazz concept of this, but right off the bat the piano is so mechanical. Once the bass and beat drops, the shuffley beat is so simple, plain, and repetitive. The bass is only playing straight quarter notes, and the backing piano is playing whole notes. The simplicity of these three core elements drags this track down to a slow plod, which is a shame because there is some very cool improv going on over the top of it. I suggest looking into getting more interesting drums, bassline and backing piano, then let's hear this again. NO
  2. ReMixer name: NachoOfCheese Real name: Yosef Mansi Submission Information: Name of game arranged: The Legend of Zelda Name of arrangement: A Hero's Walk Name of individual songs arranged: Legend of Zelda main theme, Gerudo Valley, Temple, and one of the solos is a reference to "Goodbye Moonmen" I arranged this song using FL Studio 12. Jazz is my favorite genre of music to arrange because improvisation is my element. Thank you for the consideration
  3. Those will not be completed, at least not for this album, the tracks would need to be claimed by someone else.
  4. Time to get real with this. The project has been dead in the water for some time now, and timaeus and I have discussed it and neither of us has the time nor the interest to see it through. If anyone cares to take this project over and be its new director, please let us know. If no one steps forward in the next month, the project will be cancelled and all approved tracks can be scheduled to post on OCR in the normal cycle.
  5. Track sounds really strong in the live performances, the synth-only sections feel much weaker by comparison. I'm not sure.

I found this track at my HD. I remember, i posted it at wip forums and had mod reiew. Then it was totally forgoten. Anyway. Made it back in 2012, somewhere between Hypnotica and Skull-Head. No changes to remix added. My favorite theme from this game. Some good memories from childhood.. Blasting ugly/dead things all over the floor.. What a times) Loved that game! P.S. I think I told this before, but... I still HATE that new remake of this game. Thank you! SFME!
  7. Opening/outro piano is so mechanical. Shaker, hat and especially clap are too loud/dry. Beat is so simple and plain. The melody repeats so many times. This could be a really cool dance track but the melody needs some more interpretation, or a section in between without melody but maybe some other element to break things up. Lead timbres are generic and lack movement or modulation. I can't hear the bass. This track has potential but it needs a mixing overhaul and some more melodic interpretation. NO

  9. New version up. Nemo samples removed, and vocals mixed a bit better. Let's get this one approved!
  10. I was expecting a medley but this is a pretty straightforward remix of the main theme. The string sequencing sounds good, and well enough humanized. I feel like the soundscape is pretty thin most of the time, consisting of only two or maybe three layers of staccato strings at any one time, with only occasional bass padding; there are areas I feel could use more padding or some other element. My biggest issue with this track is the many copy pastas, the same patterns repeat again and again. This is almost funny to me as I was expecting a medley which should have very little repetition! I suggest adding pad layers or other instruments, maybe some sort of solo over some part, or something else to break up the repetitive patterns. NO (resubmit)
  11. Hello! I have completed a fully orchestral medley of Friday the 13th for NES. It includes pieces from the Intro, Cabin theme, and outdoor theme. I would love for it to be an official OCRemix release. Contact Information Your ReMixer name: Timothy William Your real name: Timothy William Your email address: Your website: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeXNJauYjiN18mO6JiG-RpA Your userid (number, not name) on our forums, found by viewing your forum profile: 33521 e.g. djpretzel (http://ocremix.org/community/user/2-djpretzel/) has the userid of "2" Submission Information Name of game(s) arranged: Friday the 13th (NES) Name of arrangement: "Friday the 13th Medley" (Can be changed if needed) Name of individual song(s) arranged Main Theme, Cabin Theme, Athletic (outdoor) Theme Additional information about game including composer, system, etc. (if it has not yet been added to the site) I composed this over a two-week period. I remember this game fondly, and decided to play-through it quickly one day. Upon playing, I decided that I should probably do a remix! Link to the original soundtrack (if it is not one of the sound archives already available on the site): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6anw1EUpN0 Your own comments about the mix, for example the inspiration behind it, how it was made, etc. I love the haunting theme, and thought I could make it even more chilling by putting an orchestra to work. It ended up sounding exactly how I wanted it to. I used multiple custom VST instruments. I can go into a lot of detail if needed I'm considering making this into a series (depending on how well-received it is), so it would be great to have this as an official release and to get some feedback from the OCRemix community. I hope that you enjoy, and I also hope that this meets all criteria! Please let me know if you have any questions! -Timothy William
  12. Whoa, surf's up! I love the approach here. I'm getting a "Secret Agent Man" vibe from this. The performances are great, but I'm not totally sold on the production though. I don't hear a lot of low end and the track could be louder overall. The drums, particularly the kick and snare are very minimized. What do you think, other Js?
  13. (OLD) EDIT: New, louder link, as provided by the artist. Contact Information Remixer Username: Furorezu Real Name: Daniel Florez Preferred E-mail: User ID: 33297 Name of games arranged: Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past Name of arrangement: Hyrule's Deadly Palaces Name of individual songs: Palace Theme (Zelda II), Hyrule Castle Theme(LttP) Source materials: Palace Theme (Zelda II), Hyrule Castle Theme (LttP) Comments: Ever since participating in Theatrhythm Final Fantasy's Legacy of Music contest, for which I created a surf rock version of the Final Fantasy theme, I had the desire to create more remixes in that style as I have been a big fan of surf rock and find it incredibly fun to play. I toyed around with taking a few songs and jamming out to them but until November 2015, didn't come up with anything substantial. That month, I decided to start recording some of my ideas more seriously and flesh them out a bit more. Hyrule's Deadly Palaces was one of those ideas. I first recorded my ideas in Audacity using a drum machine I found online. Hoping to get a better sound, I started learning on how to use Reaper and have been working on rerecording my ideas in hopes of getting better at making great-sounding music. What inspired me to use these two songs in particular for Hyrule's Deadly Palaces is that I'm a big fan of the Zelda series and its music. It's what actually got me to start playing the guitar 8 years ago and has kept me going since. I chose the palace theme as my first foray into remixing Zelda's music because of its energetic nature, a trait commonly seen in surf rock by artists like Dick Dale, Daikaiju and Man..or Astro Man, and my memories of playing in the Super Smash Bros Temple stage just to hear the song. The remix is primarily based on the palace theme but while jamming out to create its solo, I realized that I could segue pretty easily into LttP's Castle theme because of their similar melodies. The fact that both songs are based on palaces in the Zelda was just the icing on the cake so I decided to incorporate the two songs into my remix. I've had a ton of fun creating this song and will certainly continue to experiment with surf rock for a good while.
  14. This track is really conservative and follows the source arrangement very closely, it really is a cover. The guitar work is really very good! I would have preferred to hear a real bass instead of this saw synth bass which makes this even more conservative unfortunately. The drums are pretty repetitive and the kick is almost inaudible and the snare doesn't sound great to me. At 1:27 the arrangement repeats verbatim which is too bad, some soloing there instead would have been great. The whole thing loops again at 2:47 and into a fadeout (blarg). So yeah, great guitar work but a lot more arrangement work is needed here to pass OCR NO

  16. This track is much too quiet and appears to be a pre-master. I added 10db with a limiter and it sounds much better. I like the concept here, you changed the 3/4 source to a cool 4/4 beat, and I love the reverse sounds. Ultimately though, the track is repetitive and doesn't develop fully enough. The same bit of motif plays over and over, and the drums are simply and repetitively written. I think the production is not too bad, although some mastering is needed. The biggest dealbreaker here is the repetitiveness of the arrangement. I suggest changing up the drum pattern a bit, adding in other bits of motif (there is more to this source that can be used), adding in some original soloing or something, and maybe make the outro a bit different from the intro. I'd really like to hear this one revisited. You could put this up in our wip forum for further feedback and advice if you are so inclined. NO (resubmit)

  18. Track starts very abruptly. That female vocal sample, oof and also ouch. The drums sound stiff and dry. The organ at 0:32 is another ear-piercer. I am not sure how well this overall concept is working, there are instruments here which need to sound more natural than this, everything is so grid-snapped and rigid. I feel like the soundscape should be full, but it often has an empty feeling even with lots of elements playing. That female vocal is repetitive and painful in the highest register. At 2:32 the bass playing lead sounds very jumbled and awkward. Oh man that ending vocal is cheesy. I'm afraid this isn't resonating with me at all. NO
  19. Hello OCR judges, Below is my information. Rodok. William Rhoden userid = 32400 Submission information. Game arranged = Legend of Zelda Ocarina or Time. Name = Bach to the Valley Song arranged = Gerudo Valley Inspiration: Many have done great arrangements of this song. I'm a classical violinist, and familiar with J.S. Bach's works. I thought it would be cool to try and combine the two. I did this arrangement as stress relief while working on my Masters in Music. Thank you all for supporting a great community for music! Will
  20. Perfect, I knew you'd have the right answer. Will do shortly. Thank you! edit: Done, above vote amended. Would you mind consolidating the threads, @Liontamer? another edit: The tracks were a bit different, arrangement-wise: https://www.dropbox.com/s/izzuuycairs5l3o/mountains roar.jpg?dl=0
  21. Oh my goodness. Well it isn't a resub, I believe it just must be a version #2 as you said. The submit dates are March 14 and April 21. What do, @Liontamer?
  22. This is a well performed cover of Dragon Roost, although I strongly dislike the synth lead that starts at 0:35, the vibrato is out of control and this timbre doesn't fit the soundscape at all. The rest of the soundscape is good although the castanet groove gets repetitive. The arrangement is a straight cover of Dragon Roost, despite the modulation at 2:31, the arrangement does not vary from the source writing until 3:12 at which point I finally hear SOMETHING different. The smooth bassline and piano groove that follow are a breath of fresh air but it is so short lived. The final piano rendition of the theme is lovely, but again, too little too late. I think there is a lot of potential here if the arrangement could be interpreted away from the source somewhat in the first 75% of the track, but I do insist that those wonky synth leads be replaced by something much less wonky. NO

  24. This vote is based on the version of this song that was submitted on April 21: Great concept, making this source into liquid DnB. This is a very chill track, although I lose track of the source after 1:38, it seems to be an original track after that point. The arp that plays throughout the remainder of the track does not match the arp in the source closely enough for me to count it. Other Js, have I missed something? The mixing is a problem right out of the gate. Your intro pad has some dc offset action going on (rumble below 40Hz). When the kicks enter, the track sounds very overcompressed and remains so throughout the track. All the instruments are competing for frequency space and everything is drowning in reverb. Reverb is necessary for this genre, but so many reverbs are overlapping here, and they can all stand to be low-cut at 300Hz minimum as you don't want any low reverb as it only contributes to low end dc offsets which steal mastering headroom. The drums sound very boxy and the high end sounds crushed and sizzly. The leads that play throughout the track are quite loud and prominent compared to everything else and the bass is hard to hear. My feeling is this track would need a mixing and mastering overhaul as well as more connection to the source material after 1:38 to pass. edit (same day): I did not realize that there was already a version of this track on the panel. Listening to the prior version, the longer version, my production criticisms stand, the track is overcompressed, too pumpy, too sizzly. I like the arrangement a bit better in the longer version, the extended breakdown is nice. I am really not hearing much source at all after 1:35 or so, other than the chord progression which in my mind is too vague to be a good source connection. In the longer version though, the source melody is brought back in the breakdown and outro which is good, although I don't care for fadeout endings. I'm afraid that both versions are no-go for me, but the longer version is closer to a pass for me, if the mixing is addressed, more source connections added in the bulk of the track, and preferably with a proper ending and not a fadeout. NO
