  1. one of my favorite soundtracks... i think the drum part could be different to really bring out the excitement in the track. it seems a bit too laid back and behind the beat for a battle song. i'm thinking a more straight rock or punk rock feel on the drums would suit the track better. also maybe a little eq on the bottom end of your kick to give it a little more thud. maybe turn the non guitar synthy elements down. (that's just my taste though. i like keyboards in my rock, i just like them behind the guitars) there doesn't seem to be an ending. i think another measure where you chug it out and have them drums match the chug riff and it's like, duga du ga, duga du ga or whatever, could be a suitable ending. maybe with the lead repeating them beginning of the main melody motif one more time, then going up to the I note at the end. I like it, i just think it needs more work Edit: also the clangy ass bells at the beginning made me turn the speakers down for the 2nd time. bring those suckas down like 6 dbs please
  2. I like the playing and the arrangement. although the shredding in the middle lacks musicality to me. fast notes don't impress anyone anymore. good notes do. the mixing is almost there but still needs some work. I think the bass guitar is maybe a little too prominent or needs to be eq'd so it doesn't blow up the rest of the mix. maybe just turn it down a little bit. use a pro mix as a reference. it really sticks out in the beginning part, which i think you meant to do, but it sticks out a bit too much to my ears. everything else sounds pretty damn good though. very clear and everything is separated well.
  3. you're better than me at guitar, but the playing sounds a little too dirty for me as far as the articulations go, and the delay and reverb doesn't help that...i'd say pick easier songs or practice it more first... it sounds better once everything comes in because a big arrangement covers up individual tracks. the rhythm guitar is played fine, it's just the "harp" part that needs work. and I know how hard that part is because i attempted playing it the other day so kudos for even being able to tackle it at all.
  4. My buddy requested this. Doom Metal cover of "Kyrie" from Parasite Eve. Composed by Yoko Shimomura. mix reference was "It's Never Enough" by Type O Negative. I'm pretty happy with it although I have lots of room to improve. https://soundcloud.com/christophercollins-3/parasite-eve-kyrie-flowers-of
  5. I guess the link isn't working anymore. But I listened to your starfox thing and that KILLED IT
  6. Sounds great! I particularly love how the drums are mixed. It's all very clear and pretty though.
  7. I think some verb on the trumpet would make it sound better. Maybe try a touch of some room. I don't listen to jazz every day, but might make it sit in the mix more and come to life a little more. That being said, this is friggen awesome and sounds like the real thing, so congrats on that.
  8. I like it. The arrangement is perfect. I have those same samples, and when stuff is this slow and simple, it really puts tone quality in the spotlight so that is why it's so obvious. It's not convincingly real, but it sounds good. The # of people that can make stuff convincingly real with samples, to me is 1, which is that blake robinson guy lol. Keep working on that part, as much as you can, (as will I), but the actual music is good.
  9. Dude this is sweet. Awesome guitar on the riffage...and good arrangement. Finish it!!
  10. https://soundcloud.com/christophercollins-3/laguna-sux-final-fantasy-7 FUNK METAL cover. Barrett, the actual character, came into my studio to do the voice overs. Thanks for doin' voice overs on my shit bro. If you like this follow me on soundcloud to hear more! Also check out my sephiroth mix on there if you haven't heard it yet.
  11. Thanks to everyone that listened and downloaded! Do you think I should submit this to the site?
  12. https://soundcloud.com/christophercollins-3/kill-cloud-strife-ff7-those Did this for recording practice...pretty happy with it!!! Let me know if you have any tips on the mixing etc... Thanks for listening!
  13. My friend, learn some EQ techniques and it will go along way. You have a lot of instruments going on, so you need to cut out a hole for each of them by eqing frequencies. For example, say you want the brightness of your snare to come out, then maybe you would boost 8khz a little on the snare and cut 8khz on some of the other instruments (like the synths) Cutting out the instrument frequency overlap would help this out a lot. Just google EQ mixing techniques...or get a mixing book from the bookstore. Good song choice though. Believe it or not, I have the original song on the CD on my alarm clock so I wake up to it each morning. Somehow, I still like it...
  14. https://soundcloud.com/christophercollins-3/gaia-piano-version-evo-the Just me playing the song on the old piano. Yup.... Like my soundcloud or Facebook page for more updates. I do put out some Video Game & Anime music every now and then. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Michael-Collins-WriterComposerArtist/251743968662?ref=hl
  15. http://soundcloud.com/christophercollins-3/what-should-be-star-ocean Progressive metal remix of the song - first half is basically the actual song, then I go into some different stuff. I'm mostly looking for help on the mixing. I also will probably have to re record the metal guitars to get it accepted but, that's as good as I can play right now... See ya!! edit: Source here The first departure version sounds a little different from the original Star Ocean 1 version. what with the piano not being in there (or changed to the boopy synth)
  16. Is no one doing the Town theme? I might try my hand at a techno ish version??
  17. here is the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad stage 1 of my Four Masters of Doom mix. It currently sounds like a butt pooping but it will give you an idea of where I am headed

    http://soundcloud.com/christophercollins-3/four-masters-of-doom-terrible

I mostly need to edit the drum track, kinda threw it together for tonight. I also don't like the lead guitar tone too much

I wave hammered the track and couldn't undo it so the last part is over compressed. it won't be like that on the final

  18. Ok I think the Soundtrack I downloaded was tagged wrong. Youtube everywhere has four gods for Lufia 2 as the song I was wanting to do. SO. BACK TO ORIGINAL PLAN!!! I'll send you something if I get anything good sounding to come out of my fingers I may do some of the other songs too that have not been done yet
  19. Ok so the link for Four Gods (Four Masters of Doom) you used was But I downloaded the soundtracks and that is from Lufia Numero Uno (La Festivadad de el Sinistrals) The song called "Four Master of Doom" on Lufia 2 soundtrack is different and kind of sucks. I don't want to do that one ! But maybe I can submit a "Gate of Journey" one instead. I always liked that song. We'll see
  20. The cymbals get a bit tiresome as they keep playing the whole time. I would take them out except for the Chorus-ey part with the strings. So they will have more of an impact there. I like the little flute whirls. It's a good cover of the song.
  21. First off that title is the best!!!!!!!! Take out the silence at the beginning...that always bothers me. it takes .5 second to split the clip I was excited at first but it started to drag on a bit with the droning guitar. I haven't heard the original song. I like the crazy drum solo. I can't hear the kick drum at all. And the snare lacks punch. Which happens a lot in home mixes. Cut some of the frequency the kick and snare are at, out of your guitars (like 80hz and 160 hz) and turn them up a little too. even with the drum solo the kick is barely present, it needs to be the foundation of the drumset. the cymbals and toms sound great and the actual drum writing is pretty bitchin The actual arrangement was a little boring for me, maybe you can find some ways to make it more interesting by changing up your rhythm guitar part.
  22. I am really thinking about doing Four Gods 8 string doom metal type thing.... Let me play it on guitar and see how good it sounds. hmmm
  23. I agree that the samples need a bump, that's what's keeping it from sounding really professional to me. Also I'm not digging the added discordance and it sounds like there's some wrong notes in the transcription that are sound like they're out of key. As far as arrangement goes, changing the patch you use on the lead instrument isn't enough to create a decent enough contrast to make it interesting, the music needs to change more, it's staying too close to the original without a sound quality boost to make it worthwhile....
  24. I hit the follow button on the soundcloud thinger! The choir totally makes this for me. You did a great job with the samples, production, performance, everything. I can tell it's not a real orchestra but, it's as close as it's getting to the real thing without uh....the real thing. I wish my fake orchestra sounded like that. Awesome job. I personally prefer stuff that doesn't mess with the original too much, so I dug this
