  1. It's really hard to get a good, full sound from an electric violin when it comes to studio recording. I usually opt for an acoustic because it gives me that depth and warmth I love. I am still new with EQ for my acoustic, actually lol. But there should be a way to make your violin sound less harsh by cutting out certain frequencies. I have an electric violin too and I totally stopped playing it years ago haha. I also just want to say- keep working on the vibrato. I think that is one skill that really does help make the violin sing. This is a really pretty song, by the way! I cannot wait to hear the finished product!
  2. I just want to say that I absolutely LOVE the ReMixes you've done so far! Keep up the awesome work :)

  3. Oh, I see! I am pretty sure I recorded the violins in stereo, but digitally panned them left or right. I believe that if I had added a third violin recording to each part, and left that in the center, it would probably sound a lot better. I did that with my J-E-N-O-V-A cover and I think it does make a difference. If you want to listen to that one for comparison, here's the link: Thanks for the feedback on my Japanese pronunciation and the piano mixing! I'm glad they sounded good
  4. Hey, guys! I thought I would put this finished cover out there for critique. It is probably one of the best covers I have done so far, and I am always looking to improve. This was more of a straight cover, with a little bit of artistic creativity. If any of you can understand or speak Japanese, your feedback on my singing would be MUCH appreciated. Breakdown on the recording/mixing side of the cover: -Every violin or vocal recording has a reverb preset attached to it to add warmth and increase depth of recording -There are two recordings of each violin take, each panned either left or right to create a fuller sound -VST piano from FL with a reverb preset from FL -string section (during vocal part) was mixed and sent to me by a friend who plays viola -Recorded an analog clock with microphone to produce the ticking noise Like I said, if you have any suggestions for better mixing, recording, anything... just let me know!
  5. Just an update for you all following this thread: I haven't added much to the WIP; in fact, I've made it shorter than it was before haha. I'm trying to finish up Man with the Machine Gun first for the mini-album before I work more on this one. The good news is that I should be working on this in about a month or so! :)Please keep an eye out for my next post on here, and thanks so much again for all of your feedback!
  6. OMG This is SO GOOD!!! I absolutely love it. It is definitely a more liberal arrangement, but I can still hear Petalburg in there. One question though... is the very end intentional? It seemed a bit abrupt after the fade-out... not sure if it's due to the program you used?
  7. Well, I know this might not progress for a while, but I am open to contributing live violin/vocals if needed
  8. Big thanks to Cash for giving me the link to this!! I am so going to enter
  9. Yeah, I was kind of getting that feeling too, so I might cut a bit out of the intro I am still trying to stick to the 5 minute idea, but if it is shorter, I will definitely make the intro shorter as well Ohhh I think I understand what you are saying about the arpeggio thing (it took me a while to process that haha). I will try it out! Yes, I definitely agree with that. I might change the panning settings to make it appear softer (or figure out how to lower the velocity of the note on Magix). **EDIT** I found the velocity markers lol so I lowered the high notes This makes me happy because now I can work on it some more! Thanks! On another note, I am starting to get acquainted with FL Studio little by little... I like it a lot so far
  10. Hey! I am so glad you got around to listening to it! Thanks so much for the feedback. I'll put a link for the most recent version I have of the song. I took everyone's advice for the most part, I still need to find better entrance drums though. So yeah, I reduced the harshness of the pad, (hopefully) used a better string VST, reduced the reverb a bit on the piano, added a low pass filter for the part around 1:50 (still buzzes a bit, not sure how else to fix it)... I lowered the volume of the synth at 1:29 a bit (I can try to add a low pass filter to this one too if needed). I also added a nice part around 1:39 which SHOULD hopefully pan slowly from the right ear to the left, and then back to the middle. WOW. Haha that's a lot of fixes I made! I really hope everything sounds better... If not, please let me know so I can do some more tweaking. LINK: https://soundcloud.com/teracmusic/terras-theme-techno-wip Also... what genre would this even be? The reason why I put Techno is because that's what I had initially planned this "remix" to be. If anyone has an idea as to what category this falls into, I would be really grateful!
  11. Oh my god... this is so beautiful :') I downloaded the demo of Bravely Default as well, and I agree that the music is just... amazing! Wonderful job
  12. Oh! I understand now! Thanks for the clarification
  13. Sounds freaking awesomeeeee I can't wait to hear its progress!
  14. Right! I understand. As for the part at 1:50... does that mean I should add a high-pass filter? lol I feel so incompetent haha I am taking this Music Production course offered by Berklee College of Music via Coursera (the course is free), so I am hoping that they touch on all of these terms xD Thanks again for clarifying
  15. These are all good points! I want to try making this remix about 4-6 minutes in length. I can definitely adjust the intro if it falls short of the 5-6 minute minimum. A lot of my ideas are still stuck in my head, so I will have to wait until I am closer to finishing before adjusting the beginning. I've decided that the first drum sample I used will be changed for a different one lol. It's a placeholder for now. I definitely like the later drum samples a lot more I'll try to find a better one for that section! I actually thought the same thing about the part around 1:50, I will try to tweak that! Wow... I realize that I have a lot of work to do! I am so happy that everyone likes my ideas so far, though
  16. This is why I love OCR. I am getting such great feedback! Thank you for your input! I will add it to my list hehe I will try my best to incorporate everyone's suggestions... All of these production terms are kind of confusing to me, but I will ask my other friends to help me out I am sure that with time, I will understand what everyone is saying a bit better haha. I want to make my first remix successful so again, thanks to everyone for sending me suggestions!
  17. Thanks so much!! I am so glad you like what I added. I'll be sure to work on it more and post the progress once again
  18. Throne Reborn sounds so awesome! I hear that violin haha I play the violin, so if you ever want a live violin track, feel free to let me know! The sample you used sounds pretty good, though. Loco Motion is so epic! I need to figure out how to remix like this lol. Looks like I have a lot to learn! Thanks for posting these. They are both really freaking good haha
  19. Ahhh this sounds so awesome!! I do feel like it could be a bit more personalized, but this is really good I'm an avid fan for anything LoZ haha. I definitely prefer V4 over V3. Keep it up! Can't wait to hear more!
  20. I actually really like this! I do feel like you could make this into something really epic... I was hoping for something to blow me away at the end, but it just kind of... ended. I really hope you work more on this! I will stay updated with your progress
  21. Yay! Someone else who is working on Terra's theme This piece sounds so chill, it's nice I feel like the bass might be a bit too loud in some parts... the personalization was pretty cool though! I wish I could offer better technical advice, but I'm slowly learning haha. I hope that this will sound fuller once you get some horns in there, since it does seem a bit empty from the 3:00-4:00 mark. Can't wait to hear what else you add!
  22. I agree with timaeus222. The ending seemed a bit too abrupt for me as well, and I hear the glitch in the beginning. I am not sure if the percussion resonances were intentional or not. Try to take some more creative liberty with the song; you are not limited to the chords and melody of the original piece. Overall, this is a good start!
